I’m so sorry about your grandmother, @Linde. I know that it can be very hard but we are all glad to have you back! 🙂

You’ll have to tell me all about it, that’s so exciting! @natureaker

Updated my LinkedIn profile yesterday to be more current.

Okay, I can’t pretend that that’s exciting.

I assume you’re joking, but in case you’re not…

I’d prefer not to. I don’t want prospective employers knowing I’m a member here, for fear that they’ll read something irreverent or rude that I posted here and not hire me on that basis. Separate spheres, man. I don’t let people call me by my actual name here for the same reason.

It’s probably overkill, but it doesn’t hurt to be safe.

It’s kind of sad that this whole online “big brother” thing seems to be reality nowadays. I had to give my prospective employer access to my Facebook account as part of their security check.

I’ve had job interviewers looking dubiously at me after I’ve said I don’t have a Facebook page.

People have been sacked from their jobs due to posts (old and new) they have made online that do not sit well with employers. Here’s hoping Apple never offer me a job and then read what i’ve written about them.

If Apple are searching for employees who have nothing to criticise them about, then they should be looking for people who know absolutely nothing about Beatles apart from the fact that “they wrote some cool songs in the 60s”. And that’s what they probably do because they’re still so damn clueless.

Here’s a ridiculous one

She was depressed, but Facebook showed her having fun on vacation.

Nathalie Blanchard had been living off of disability insurance for depression since 2008. But when Manulife, the Canadian insurance company making the payments, got into her Facebook page, they saw her “relaxing at the beach, hanging out at a Chippendale’s-style club, and generally having a lot of fun.”

She immediately lost her insurance benefits.

They didn’t even notify her why her payments ended until she had to ask.

I started teaching a girl in French last week, the official Leaving Cert orals are coming up next week so I’ve had three classes with her between today and when she started coming to me last week.

Today she said

“Honestly you don’t know how much you’ve helped me, when I came in here I wasn’t able to say my name in French!!”

Ah that just made my day so it did.

You can’t put it into German, the closest you could get would be:

UnordentlichApfelJuenger

And even then that just means “UntidyAppleJunior”, you could use the word “schlampe” for scruff but that also means “tart” or for want of a better word “tramp” to describe a woman and I don’t really want ‘TartyAppleJunior’ as my username in German a-hard-days-night-paul-3
