I don’t start school until the first day of September or something like that. But I do agree that if you wake up early it feels like summer lasts longer. I have been getting up at 5-5:30 most mornings so far this summer. I like to do everything outside in the morning before it get’s too hot, and if I get up early, I have longer to savor my bagel and cup of coffee in the morning.
@Linde wait how old are you? Sorry to hear your having a stressful summer.
And Beatlva, I’m sure it will go well. Thinking of you

@Beatleva, all the best to your dad for next Tuesday, hopefully he, yourself and the rest of your family dont find it too stressful a time.
@Linde, hopefully you can find some way of getting some peace and rest before you head back to school.
I can remember that last week dreading having to go back, sucked so much enjoyment out of it – the sunday evening was the worst. And it was just as bad the first few days being back, stuck bored in a classroom as a teacher droned on as the sun shone and the memories of freedom still lingered strongly. How i loathed school. Best time of your life
@ScrambledEggs, how is your friend’s recovery going and how are you finding being in Germany (apologies if the country is wrong, my geography sucks (maybe i should have listened in school but god my geography teacher was a right bore)).

@Beatleva, here’s hoping you have a happy, positive report for us Tuesday or Wednesday after your dad’s surgery.
@Linde, glad you shared with us. I hope it helps to have this outlet.

In my life…I continue to dislike this thread. One of the purposes of the derail thread for several years was to house the types of posts found in this thread.
It has now caused a bit of a problem that I won’t go into here. It is a private matter.
Would anyone hunt me down and sick a on me if I lock this thread and redirect people to the derail thread?

The only thing about having everything in the derail thread is that everything would get buried and jumbled up.

If someone post what is happening in their life to the derail thread, then it could take up a page of the derail thread talking about something that could go in this thread and it will make things hard to find since right now you can’t use the search box to look for a specific post and it will make it harder to talk about other things in the derail thread since with the derail thread their are topics that get hot there so that other people will have to wait to post their post cause it will likely get buried. If their are too many topics in the derail thread it will be more like a chat room then a discussion
Edit: And their are more active users now then back then so the would be even more things that are buried and jumbled up.
And I think this thread generates more discussion than the Eating and Listening threads

I didn’t realise this thread had grown so much.
I don’t want to lock it. It had a clear purpose, but that purpose has been lost amid a lot of everyday discussions which would be better off in the impossible-to-derail thread.
I’m going to do a bit of a clean-up. I like this thread because it shows a real human side to people. Some of the stories on here have been incredibly funny and sad (not normally at the same time), and I’m grateful that people have shared them. So let’s keep it open as a place where people can post non-trivial snippets about their lives. If you want to discuss which cheese you had for lunch, please take it to the other thread.

I agree with Anna. And my opinion is that too much redirecting and merging will actually make things less organized when actually posting and reading others’ posts even if getting to the threads is easier.
The point of the derail thread is for random purposeless posts that are interesting but don’t fall into a category. This thread has a purpose.

Starr Shine?, ZigThis thread does have a purpose, but it’s definitely lost focus. I’m going through the old messages and there are a lot of “I’m typing this message”, “I’m drinking a cup of tea” and “Downloading music”-type comments. I’m deleting a lot of them to make this thread better.
The problem with those sorts of messages is they encourage other similar comments, and then we end up with over 50 pages of banality, with the occasional glimpse of something fascinating. I’d much rather know about what interesting things are going on in people’s lives, so everyone, please make it count.
Right now I’m at work, it’s 4pm. We’ve just been told that there’s a two-hour pro-Palestine protest taking place outside from 5.30 (by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign), so we can go home early to avoid them if we want. We’ve been told not to have our passes on show outside the building (in case someone tries to steal them, I guess). I’m actually quite tempted to join the protest!

I was torn over this thread. When I see it in the list of recently unread topics, I usually click on it and get right back out of it just to clear it from the “unreads”. **
Not sure why, but I decided to actually read content here yesterday. If I had not, I would have had no idea that Ron Nasty was undergoing surgery.
I am no longer torn. As has been said a few times now, this thread serves a purpose.
**It’s not that I don’t feel for my fellow Forumpudlians – it’s just the fact that so much was going on in my own life that I did not want to “take on” anyone else’s problems. Thanks for understanding.

@ScrambledEggs, how is your friend’s recovery going and how are you finding being in Germany (apologies if the country is wrong, my geography sucks (maybe i should have listened in school but god my geography teacher was a right bore)).
My friend woke up from coma two days ago, and beside a broken leg and two cracked ribs, she is absolutely fine. I was so relieved when I got a text from her, it was as if someone had lifted some weight from my shoulders – literally.
I’m in Germany (you got it right @meanmistermustard !) for one more week *sniff*. I love it here, I finally feel like I belong. I haven’t felt that – not even for a moment – in my entire life in Macedonia. If everything works out, next year I’ll move here to continue my University studies. Until then, I’ll study in Skopje and that’s an aspect that sort of frightens me. But I shall enjoy this one week of freedom I’ve got left and use my time best to play my guitar on the streets, continue meeting people, date this guy I told you about and have fun with my family. I do hope I will not be depressed once I’m back home.

Considering what has been said upthread about what type of content should go where (Derail vs. Life), I’d say mmm made the right choice.
Wishing our friend Ron Nasty well – good vibes being sent…
EDIT: ScrambledEggs – just now seeing your post. Fabulous news about your friend coming out of the coma. Here’s wishing her a speedy recovery!

Delighted to hear your friend is out of the coma @ScrambledEggs. Normally its not so good having a couple of broken ribs and a broken leg but considering what could have been its not so bad. Here’s hoping her recovery is smooth and she is up and about asap. And very pleasing that you are finding Germany to be so hospitable and like home (well actually not like your home country considering what you said), all the best in being able to undertake your studies there next year as you like it so much.
How are the music gigs you were doing going? Oh so many questions.
I missed a lot in this thread.
Congratulations on passing your driving test @Mimi. How is the job search going?
