So will her username change or will she still be HongKongLady?
It’s good that you’re moving forward. Sometimes failure can make people give up.
I suspect it might change, but will leave that to the lovely lady to decide. She has a lot to take care of just now as she prepares to return home next Wednesday after many many years on the road.
One bright note; my brother – who has already met up with HKL on a previous holiday in HK – will be in Manila next week and they will most likely catch up again for a coffee.

I still say send her to yourself in a box with an fully charged iPhone, peanuts and water to keep HKL alive and amused. Your brother could be the sender next week. Timing perfect.

My mom won a vacation from a radio station. I’m going with her tomorrow to the radio station to pick the tickets up.Also, I have long-overdue dental and eye appointments coming up. I’m a little nervous about the dentist appointment, because it’s been a full fourteen months since the last one and I haven’t exactly been nice to my teeth over the past year+.
I had a good day with my mom and grandma in downtown Chicago.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see much of the station, but we did get to go in the office outside. A man handed my mom an envelope with the tickets and congratulated her. She’s going with one of her friends. It’s for a resort in Punta Cana.
We walked to the Chicago Cultural Center. It’s in a former public library and the old building is structured as such. We saw some modern art. Some of it was good, some of it was “I could do that” stuff. There was a band in one of the wings playing Otis Redding songs for elementary school students on a field trip. We saw them perform a couple songs. They had a temporary exhibit on Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests and I actually was allowed to make some of the smaller, less complex ones move under a museum employee’s supervision.
We walked by ABC7 news studio, but they had the blinds drawn on the window to the street. We did, however, get to see an ESPN affiliate in the same building during broadcast.

I just came back from watching the orchestra, which also included a jazz quintet, and it was A-MAZ-ING . I didn’t really know what to expect, but it was very cool.
Firstly, I must say it wasn’t exactly Beatles’s song arranged for orchestra, but, in the leader of the jazz quintet own words it was “a musical trip through different music styles, with Beatles’s song being the central theme”. The songs they played were And I Love Her , I Will , Here, There And Everywhere , Here Comes The Sun , Something , Come Together , Blackbird and Eleanor Rigby , plus two original compositions of the jazz quintet. My favourites were Here Comes The Sun , Come Together and Eleanor Rigby , and my brother’s face when he realized they were playing Here Comes The Sun was priceless, he’s not exactly what you would call a fan, but it’s one of his favourite songs so he was really really happy. My mother’s favourite was Come Together , though she says there was too much xylpohone, but I don’t agree with her .
What impressed me the most was when they played all at the same time, there were around 60 or 70 musicians and like, for 60 people all have that coordination and for two or three minutes, that’s awesome, to say the least.
Also, on the way there, Cheer Down played on the radio and out of nowhere my brother started singing You’re Going To Lose That Girl , I don’t know why, but now I can add it to the list of songs he likes.
The only bad thing is that I missed my team’s first match in the Copa Libertadores (for those who don’t know, it’s like the UEFA Champions League, but of South America), but it was a great day nevertheless.

Sounds like you had a fab time, Merch. That was quite an experience to see that many musicians at once.
If only they had worn red clown noses and such like the orchestra used for A Day In The Life did. 🙂

One of the two websites that I use for picture hosting on this forum – postimage.org – has put a hold on my uploading pictures to it. I tried to and got the message “Your IP address has been flagged for possible suspicious activity. Please contact the support team.” I don’t get it. It’s not like I was uploading spam or hardcore porn to it.

So you were only uploading softcore porn?
In other news, The Offbeats had a FABULOUS jam today, and also, it seems we’ve got a gig!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! We’re going to play for some sort of charity thing… something to do with stopping child abuse. So we’re trying to pick songs that fit that vibe. So far we’ve got Wish You Were Here, Blow Away, and Here Comes The Sun .
(What?! No one else had any suggestions!)

How about Comfortably Numb? Or is that inappropriate?
Actually yes, that’s really very inappropriate
Funny you should mention that, because that was suggested by one of the lads, but we thought it, as you say, really inappropriate.

I’m So Tired and Getting Better .
I thought of Getting Better myself, but I’m not sure I’m comfortable with singing ‘I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved’ in public. Also Hey Jude , but that’s really a piano-based song and I’m not sure what we have for keyboards.
