Rubbish! Just because you have a higher legal age for drinking than European countries doesn’t mean your youngsters start experimenting with alcohol at a later age than European youngsters. It just means they can get into trouble for it longer.

In the US we learn how to drive way sooner (For the most part) then you do in Europe.

In Ireland you can drive a motorbike or tractor at age 16 but you have to be 17 to learn how to drive a car. In America (I believe) you can learn when you’re 15-16 (mostly), that’s not that much of a difference.

It is when you are 15

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 What She Said She Said

I had a horrid driving dream last night… I hate driving dreams. In them I’m always skeered to death that I’ll be arrested for driving under-age. And I also have no idea what I’m doing so I’m also skeered of smashing into something/someone.

Oh, undoubtedly. However, not necessarily illegal. There is no age limit on driving on private land. Many schools, for instance, now organise “Driving awareness” courses for their students of 15-16. The driving licence in most countries only applies to public roads. And, of course, you will always get those, below and above the age of legality, who will drive the roads without having a licence. I shouldn’t imagine that differs much in most countries.

However, I am sure there are many more teenagers who have illegally drunk below age than have illegally driven on the public highways. It all boils down to the risk of getting caught, and the effect of getting caught (which can be a driving ban that kicks in from the moment you are legal). The comedown if you’re caught drinking in a pub underage, or buying alcohol from a supermarket, is on the retailer, not the person caught. Driving it comes down on the individual.

Jesus you’d get a massive fine/short prison sentence for driving around here without a licence (and hence tax and insurance) whereas if you get caught drinking the only thing the police do at most is take your drink off you and say “now don’t let me catch you out here doing that again”. They then probably go back to the station and drink your paid-for vodka a-hard-days-night-paul-11

We live on private lane and we were allowed to ‘drive’ up the lane from an incredibly young age. My dad would control the peddles whilst we would steer. You also got a driving lesson in 2nd year at school, so about 12/13 years old.

There will be kids out there younger than 17 who are driving their mates around wherever each night easily evading the police.  And then there is Young Driver

I’d offer but just as we’d be hitting a main road, I’d probably stall the damn thing >.>

Funnily enough I do actually have a few cars and vans to sell, I’ll go across to the garage tomorrow and see what we’ve got.

You can have a loan of my Peugeot 407 if you want, for the time being.

I’d drive but I probably would end up driving on the “wrong” side of the road.

I don’t drive. I have (illegally, having never had a licence) a few times in my late teens. When I did, I thought, Why don’t I do it in the road?

I hate not having been here in two weeks and then showing up and not having anything positive to say, but alas.

I’m sick in bed and my aunt has cancer, and she has it in more place than one so we’re expecting the worst. It was a rough week.

On a brighter note, I’m getting very positive feedback at my internship and the kids had to fill in a list with what they thought about everything, and they all like me so at least I got that going for me. All sounds a bit meaningless though.

Nothing wrong with coming here to unload the crap of the week – and its always good to hear how your internship is progressing. Not surprised the kids like and are comfortable around you. apple01

No point dressing it up, cancer hitting a loved on is beyond s**t and nothing I can type can go close to helping in anyway.

Been dying of a heat wave that decided to come in September. Luckily, it just ended yesterday, and now it can feel like fall.

School has just been the same old usual, nothing new except maybe the lunches. At least they’re better than what I could get last yeara-hard-days-night-paul-3

Also, my bus has the most random people. Yesterday , some kid shouted “Tacos are better than grilled cheese!” which, I don’t think I’ve ever questioned someone more for shouting that on a school bus. I swear, a-hard-days-night-paul-4was my face when I heard that. Also, I learned that I don’t like Math Applications.

So yeah, not much going on In My Life , but hey, it’s better than sitting around the house all day

Ay-ay-ay I’m just after an hour and a half of doing a French lesson with a lad from my school. The French teacher there shouldn’t be allowed to teach- he doesn’t know basic words like ‘before’, ‘after’, ‘last’ and verbs like ‘put’ or ‘take’- he has been learning French for 5 years and he’s doing his Learning Cert this year a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

Jesus this will be a tough year I can tell you. I have to readjust my work timetable with him now because I have to cover all of the basics, he won’t be able to tackle a Higher Level paper for another 3 months or so a-hard-days-night-paul-3

I’m teaching him for free so he better get me a nice Christmas present for all the hard work I’ll have to put in…..just kidding…

>.>

<.<

>.>

a-hard-days-night-paul-10

If he fails or gets low marks, it makes me look like a sh*t teacher and no one will want me to tutor them so I’ll have to actually do proper work on the weekends, ugh :/

Fine, the auld fella wouldn’t buy a heap of crap seeing as he buys them off people he already knows and fixes up any slight thing that may be wrong with them.

Can’t, I need to do my test on a manual so I can get a licence to drive both manual and automatic. If I drove an automatic for my test would licence would stipulate that I can only drive an auto.

I’m sorry to hear about your aunt @Linde . A lot of my family members and friends have had cancer and many of them have pulled through even when the odds were against their favour. I hope you also get better soon, it’s great to hear that you’re getting on well with your work placement.

Sending heart
