Yay my deferral for college got accepted this morning so I get another year to work on my little projects (I swear to Jesus I will have Klaus’ book done), do some work and earn some money. My mam told me this morning that it’ll be really nice to have me around for another year while my 2 brothers are gone so at least I’m not being a drain on the family.
I also got accepted for my French diploma evening classes on Tuesday nights. If I do well enough after 2 years they’ll let me register as a part-time Arts student so I can get a bachelor’s degree in French 😀

Rained here this morning too. We are supposed to get a little bit more during the day. I’m enjoying the cloudiness after so much sunshine.

I’m getting braces in, and these spacers they put in are going to drive me batty long before next week comes.Only a taste of what is to come, I suppose.
And now when I (attempt to) chew they hurt like hell… my teeth, that is… better get used to it though. I wonder if this is what toothache feels like?
T’is a great weight-loss strategy though. Not that I need it mind you.

AppleScruffJuniorI say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

The skies are ominous outside my office window in Philly. It hasn’t rained in a while and we are supposed to get thunderstorms over the next three days.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

What on earth happens to socks? I have about 89 single socks that match no other!! Where the hell are their partners!!!? Do they go thru a bitter divorce that ends with restraining orders that state that one cannot be within 2 square miles of the other or do half of them agree to long trips around the world?

I currently have eight half-pairs of recently purchased socks missing their partners (I think we might have talked about aspects of this oddity before?).

Be trendy. Do what I see lots of people doing. Wear different sock on each foot – on purpose.

I do that constantly, only because sock 1 ran away from sock 2 of its pair. So now, its orange sock 1 with yellow sock 2

Not sure going to work wearing one plain black sock and one blue with stripes would be deemed as trendy or permissible.

They don’t do that to be trendy…..They understand that statistically it makes them safer in cars and trains and aircraft.

I was very much looking forward to a visit from my brother and his family next week. Sadly, their dog (a sweet Boston Terrier named, simply enough, Boston) is having a very hard time bouncing back from Lyme disease. It seems the disease has resulted in deterioration of his kidneys. The poor little guy is on major meds trying to slow down or stop altogether the deterioration. If that does not work, he is not long for this world – only six years old. Our whole family is hoping for the best.

Hopefully the dog will survive and the meds will work. (I probably should have put that list in the opposite order, though.)

I’ve had braces and toothaches of various types. Yes, braces hurt for the first several days after an adjustment, but I’d say at worst it’s a “medium” pain in comparison with toothaches as a whole. A bad toothache is…well you’re lucky if you are just wondering if that’s what it feels like. This might give you some idea: I broke my wrist, not all that badly, and got 1-2 5mg vicodin every 4 hours. For a tooth abscess they always write percocet, either 7.5mg or 10mg (about 4x stronger than vicodin). They usually give you an nsaid for toothaches too, although the standards are OTC in the states now (naproxen, ibuprofen, and ketoprofen I think). If your prescriptions are paid for by insurance or NHS or whatever, ask the dentist for one that requires a script; if your copay is high, see if you can get the OTC version and just take a higher dose than the bottle says you’re supposed to take (following the doctor/dentist’s instructions of course!).
If you have a hard core toothache, you’re lucky if it just hurts to eat. Often it hurts to drink – with luck, room temperature liquids won’t bother you too much. Often it throbs terribly for no reason other than the infection/inflammation (like chewing or pushing on the tooth or something).
Whenever you have a problem with your gums or teeth, try swishing or gargling with warm salt water. It’s very soothing, and helps shrink the swelling. Same goes with sinus trouble. Google ‘netty pot’.
