Poor Annadog40 and Applescruffjunior. Just stay in your rooms and meanmistermustard will bring you each a nice cuppa, with Peruvian honey (which he’ll have to fetch) and tea tree oil extract, just the way you like it.

If meanmistermustard gave me that concoction, I would probably puke.

About to head off for a morning coffee with a good friend of many years then a nice lunch out. The sun has replaced the cloudy gloom and deluges (we had more rain on one day than the monthly average a couple of days ago).

Good Day Sunshine !

I think I’ve mentioned here that I suffer from insomnia… Many times I can’t sleep (the words “like right now” come to mind), but the fact is that, despite not being sleepy at all, I’m mentally, and sometimes physically, tired. I can’t read or write, I can’t play the guitar and compose, I can’t draw or paint (and I prefer daylight to paint, by the way). I usually smoke, browse the forum, surf the net, “waiting for a sleepy feeling”. Am I the only one who suffers from insomnia in the BB? What do you guys do when Morpheus won’t show up? Well, any suggestions other than a cigar and a pint before going to bed (been there, done that) will be most welcome. OK, I’ll shut down the computer now, and toss and turn till I fall asleep or turn the lights on in despair.

I don’t technically have insomnia, but I have some undiagnosed sleep disorder.  Unfortunately, I have no good solution.  Melatonin works for me, but not for everybody.

On the nights that it doesn’t work, booze and Benadryl.

That’s very, very bad advice.

Unfortunately what works for one person doesn’t seem to work for others. I find a nice cup of tea and light snack about 90 minutes before lying down helps me if I am ever in that situation. On the rare occasions it doesn’t work I will just relax in bed for a bit, get up and surf the net for 20 minutes, lie down and relax again – then wake up wondering how and when I fell asleep.

My last sleepless night was due to being so knackered i had slept during the afternoon. Having failed to get to sleep by listening to music (very rarely works) and then being online i settled to watching the cricket World Cup final. Finally got to sleep around 1/2 5.

Supposedly getting up and doing things like housework helps. I went thru a period of about a month a few years back when i rarely could get to sleep despite being so tired and nothing helped; pills, housework, tv, reading. I would be tossing and turning throughout the night, get up at 5 in the morning and be knackered all day, just getting worse. Turned out it was medical.

Its depends of the music have you listened if you listen the soft music like Mozart its makes you sleepy, or try to do something before bed like go out for walk then have shower then drink 1glass of milk its really helps, if you still can’t sleep you count the sheep up to 1000 lets see if you still can’t sleep haha

Always soft but never classical or ambient like a load of frogs in the jungle.

Woo-hoo!!!! Had a stroke of luck last night.

The sofa I currently have was given to me second-hand shortly after I moved into my current flat. It wasn’t in brilliant condition, there was quite a bit of dog damage (bull terriers) done to it – ripped covers and things like that. It probably dated back to the 1970s/80s.

So it was an old sofa, damaged and showing its wear and tear. It would do me for a while though. And nearly twenty years later I still have it, in its increasingly deteriorating condition. The covers of the seat cushions have long since gone, only one of the back cushions still had a cover, while the other had become a pile of three sausage-like bits of foam that constantly need shoving into place. The seat cushions were also suffering from the “dip” – about three inches deep at the “deep” end, collapsing to about an inch-and-a-half in the centre.

It’s been an increasingly uncomfortable sofa for a long time, and as some people here know it’s where I mainly sleep.

Last night, doing a wander down to the shops, I saw a lovely looking four-seater sofa dumped outside the bin room. I looked at it and thought, “Mmmm…”. I walked over and checked the cushions and thought, “Mmmm…”. I then wandered down to the shops, and looked again when I got back and thought “Mmmm…”.

It was definitely one of those things that make you go “Mmmm…”.

It looked slightly smaller than my four-seater, but it was in way better condition than my sofa was when I was given it, let alone now.

At just after midnight I went down and grabbed all the cushions from it. I wasn’t sure if they’d be a good fit, but way better than what I had. I just put the cushions into place, and the seat cushions are perfect, while the back are only a little awkward.

You might wonder why I didn’t just swap one for the other with the help of neighbour…

Well, one thing I have always loved about my sofa, is that it houses a fully-sprung metal frame double bed with a separate mattress. While the red-covered cushions I’ve gained don’t really match the floral covering my sofa has, and the arms of my sofa remain tatty, I now have a great sofa-bed with the most comfortable set of seat and back cushions it’s had since before I got it!

Make do and mend…
