I have a question though who is this woman pattie-boyd_02_gif? and these men pete-beststuart-sutcliffebrian-epsteingeorge-martinmal-evansneil-aspinallblue-meanie. The smileys are very entertaining!

Pattie Boyd, Pete Best, Stuart Sutcliffe, Brian Epstein, George Martin, Mal Evans, Neil Aspinall, and a Blue Meanie.

You can find out more about the people on from Joe’s people pages https://www.beatlesbible.com/people/

Have you ever been to Australia?

Blue Meanies are the baddies from the ‘Yellow Submarine ‘ film. If you wish to know more check out the wiki page – if you can get that in HK.

Thank you Annadog40 it is the flag of Hong Kong :)

I have a friend who lives just outside Canberra and I am going to visit him in July so the answer is soon.

I have looked at pictures of Pattie Boyd, she is very pretty and I think Pete Best is very handsome!

I was reading the Cantonese wiki entry of ‘Blue Meanie’. Sounds interesting so a key part of the Yellow Submarine film is people throwing apples at each other? And there is somebody called ‘Jeremy Hillary Boob

And this is a children’s film? o.O

I will never understand western culture

Boob can also mean idiot or prat in the Western world so it could just be (y)our minds going to the other when a clean explanation is the answer. The folk throwing apples are the Apple bonkers – not bonkers as in …

Oh never mind.a-hard-days-night-paul-10 There was a time when words were just healthy and wholesome now you can spend 45 minutes explaining what it means and what it doesnt.

I have not actually but trcanberra was talking about Dubai A LOT  a couple of days ago but he seems to have gone quiet about it now. I would really like to visit Dubai though.

Yes, well, err, the less said about Dubai the better.

It does have a very nice tall building to look at  – but then Tower100 in HK is almost as tall, and you’ve been on top of that one already.

Of course I have, but I am interested in this “nice tall building” that you speak of.

I think I will go to Dubai sometime on holidays and see this big building.

Can we do an MTV style Unplugged documentary about Nasty’s and AG’s antics at Stonehenge?

Are you up for doing Rutle sketches AG?

HKL, I know (basic) Mandarin Chinese, could you explain in detail the differences between Mandarin and Cantonese?

If I spoke prose you'd all find out, I don't know what I talk about.

Tis true, @Oudis. We have an hour to wander among the stones and get a sense of place. I need to prepare.

HKL, I know you aren’t from China. Do you speak Chinese? Your English is very good.

Oh my – she would have to write a book.

My STBE has 3 Chinese students renting rooms from her (via an agency) at our other house; interestingly none of them speak Mandarin or Cantonese, though they understand some of both. I lent them a stack of Chinese and HK films on DVD and they will be reliant on the English subtitles!

Chinese New Year is just about to kick off and it seems HK is awash with flowers, tourists and lots of the commercial tie-ins all holidays seem to suffer from these days.

Apparently this is ‘Chinese New Year Cake’ :)

I had better answer this one as the ‘HKL’ posting here may not know the answer :)

Yes, she speaks a decent amount of Chinese, mostly to do with travel directions and shopping – a bit of both Mandarin and Cantonese. It’s not fluent as the Valentine’s Day flower delivery almost went astray. They tried to call her to get access to the building she was in (it has tight security like many buildings there) and she had no idea what they were saying, luckily her employer was in and spoke to the delivery agent and the flowers arrived on time.

That’s interesting. The way I understand(stood) it is that there is only Mandarin and Cantonese as separate Chinese languages, but that there are many dialects of each.

If I spoke prose you'd all find out, I don't know what I talk about.

Chinese is very broad some of the dialects are almost like different languages.

Oh HKLady! Wonderful to see you here.

But you’re not actually Chinese? Where are you from?

Guys, my grandma has lungcancer :( I had 3 missed called from my mum at the end of my internship and knew something was wrong. She told me everything. So my grandma has cancer and doesn’t have much time left. I couldn’t stop crying and I was disgusted with the hospital and the way they have treated both my grandma and the family members who went with her to the doctors. I may or may not have accidentally expressed my disgust by throwing up on my new sweater.

And yet she was still occupied with others. ”But can’t you give me something to hold on for a bit longer, like a year or so? My granddaughter will turn 21 soon and my daughter will turn 50 and will have her 25th anniversary. Oh and then there’s Christmas, I can’t miss all that, oh no” and to us, as she always makes soup for us every Sunday, she apologized and felt very bad about not being able to make soup! I don’t give a damn about that friggin soup.

Check this out:

A number of them are very different to the two main dialects.
