I’ve been away for a few weeks, but I have been spending time at my grandma’s house a lot. She’s not doing well and they think she’s got lungcancer. My mom is there every day, I do what I can as well, but it puts a lot of pressure on us, and on the relationship between me and my mom, and of course my parents both have their problems. I’m also incredibly busy with school and my internship and it’s all a bit too much to take. Plus I’ve been ill for about a month already, and it doesn’t really get better. Oh and my sister’s probably got borderline. So that’s great too. Can’t believe everything went downhill after a few great months. Oh well, bad luck is always around the corner, right :\

@AppleScruffJunior I’m sorry to hear about your grand-uncle. I hope your Granddad will get better soon. Just make sure he’s warm enough and eats and drinks enough. Make sure he doesn’t lose weight.

@Joe Sorry to hear that, here’s to hoping she’ll recover soon and well!

@Ron Nasty That sounds gross. I once had a spot like that too. Well it was more a bump. The doctor actually had to cut it open. It’s really weird when you don’t feel anything but you can see someone cutting in your back. Hope your back will be alright again soon.

Edit: At least I just found out I got really good grades for my last exams. There was one I did while being incredibly sick and I had only slept for about two hours and had been awake since 4 am. I also hadn’t really studied for that one. Got a 7 out of 10! And one that was about Social work in domestic violence, family treatment and management of agression. For that one I had to record a video of myself talking to a client and I had to write a report with how to help her further, and about international methods and a reflection of my own experiences and stuff. For the video I had a 7 out of 10 and for the report a 9 out of 10! The corrector wrote down the comment ”fantastic report”. That cheered me up a bit. Also, I got some nice things to look forward to, like going to see one of my favourite artists next month and in the summer I’m going to Budapest with some friends. So it’s not all dark. It’s just that I don’t really know what to do right now.

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

@Linde You too, we had a fear that Granddad had pancreatic cancer but he’s alright now so here’s hoping for the same with your grandmother!

Yes, definitely. The complication in my HK relationship is her boyfriend of 4 years – and he is battling pancreatic cancer at the moment. I have been in touch with him to wish him well and it is not nice what he is going through – though at least modern treatment means he is comfortable at home.

Sorry to hear that about you Grandma @Linde, hopefully she will beat it. At least you got really good exam results so thats one positive to hold onto amidst the rest of what else is going on.

And sorry @AppleScruffJunior about your grand-uncle. I dont know what else to say.

Definitely a little cutie, @Joe! I’m already picturing you and a shotgun when she reaches her teens! Hope her arm isn’t causing too much discomfort (for her and for you and Ellie).

Unfortunately, she’s in the way of the Star Wars box and I can’t tell what it is. What’s in the Star Wars box, Joe?

@meanmistermustard My 20-year old daughter came over for dinner last night after her epic 7-week trip to Asia, Sydney and Brisbane. She was cute (with a new Chinese haircut), bubbly and full of amazing stories of her trip – plus some great photos.

I got 98% on that English exam I talked about like two months ago. If I remember correctly, I have two or three years left (then I can continue studying to be a teacher, but that’s not in my plans).

No, she said she was just in that stage during the last few days when she was starting to miss friends and family – so the timing was just perfect.

Awesome score. I did a Dip Ed years ago and did a little teaching but it wasn’t quite for me. The training did come in handy eventually – during my time as a management consultant I often had to run training sessions for large groups of people.

I don’t have much to say, but I enjoy reading your posts guys. Let me rephrase that first sentence: I don’t have much to say but what I can talk about is all good. I’m painting in oils again (and finishing some drawings in pastel crayons) and trying to fuse the styles of Max Ernst and Vincent Van Gogh into something I can call my own. Call it a wild experiment. I’m also thinking of buying an amazing guitar: the Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin II (check it on You Tube; you won’t regret it). You can strum it, you can solo with it, you can play fancy jazz chords; it’s extremely versatile. The only problem is my tight budget. Will let you know if I finally buy it. Cheers to everyone.

I really enjoyed teaching the Composition II class tonight. I found a piece to add to my presentation for that class that really jazzed things up. I am quite happy with myself for putting that piece of the puzzle together.

Other than that, in my life I am doing a lot of searching of UK train schedules and routes.

Has anyone been to Hadrian’s Wall? I won’t have a car so I’m trying to figure out my best options using public transport.

Once again, yes. I can’t help on the public transport thing sorry as we had a hire car and visited a few old fort ruins that seemed to be miles from anywhere. I suspect your best bet may be if the east part of the wall is near Newcastle or the western part is near the transport links between England and Scotland.

The train from Liverpool to Glasgow makes a stop at Carlisle. I’m thinking about hopping off and spending two nights there. I’m sure I can figure out how to use public transport to get around.

@trcanberra, did you enjoy you visit there?
