^^A random comment but I love whenever people acknowledge the interpreters. A lot of American conventions have interpreters and barely any of the guests acknowledge them, you can always tell who is a nice person when they shake hands with the interviewer and/or organisers AND the interpreter.

Anyways for today’s news:

German officials have got into trouble over allegedly accepting free Rolling Stones tickets for their concert in Hamburg that I believe the lovely @Martha attended.

German officials are banned from accepting gifts.

Truly, shocking behaviour. Now if The Stones would like to give me free tickets, I would have no problems with that whatsoever.

Oh yes, the Stones tickets scandal *sigh*. It’s so ridiculous, the news about this ‘scandal’ keep popping up in my news app for days now, as it was a major catastrophe. I really don’t know what all the excitement is about, I mean, isn’t it kind of normal that people who organise a concert get free tickets for it?

Boy, did they seriously write they ‘raided the office’? What have the office men been doing again? Oh right, they accepted tickets for a rock concert, well that’s certainly a solid reason for a raid.a-hard-days-night-george-10

Not once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Erlewine on Sgt Pepper's

I guess it could be considered a bribe- you’ve allowed this concert, allow the next one and there’s more to come *wink, wink*.

Just offering my two cents on the sexual harassment/assault scandal that is exploding through seemingly every rich and powerful social circle in the West. I’m personally glad it’s happening – if it leads to even one person getting caught for such abhorrent behaviour then it’s a good thing. What I don’t like is this ‘Trial by Media’ where a person’s name is mentioned and they’re immediately fired from their job and have their lives ruined without anybody even knowing if they’re guilty or not. In civilised countries, we don’t allow mob rule to work the courts, we have the principles of innocence until proven guilty and judicial independence, so if an allegation is that serious, then it shouldn’t be reported in the mainstream media or have any personal consequences like being fired from your job (they should just be suspended for the duration of proceedings) and criminal cases be dealt with by the criminal courts, rather than your average journalist who wants to sell a few papers by dishing the dirt on some famous names. Imagine if you’re an innocent, hard working, successful person and you get accused of this stuff, so you lose your job and your spouse, then you go through court and it’s found you didn’t even do it.

The trial by media is emerging today because of the backwards laws in California that people like Weinstein exploit to avoid justice even after victims go to the police.

It is tragic that it has come down to this; a shitstorm of tweets and blog articles that result in the complete tarnation of a man’s legacy, but with most of these stories that are breaking the accusations came up long before this new shift in culture and were completely ignored.

Robert Mugabe has just resigned as President of Zimbabwe. As the impeachment process began.

This is the most important moment in the country’s history since it gained independence in 1980. The preferred replacement of the Army, Emmerson Mnangagwa, was Mugabe’s former enforcer and Number 2, but his history may not be reflected in how he leads. Zimbabwe is at a crossroads. Let’s hope there are truly democratic elections there within months to put in place a legitimate government.

The people feel they have helped bring Mugabe down and feel empowered, it would be unwise of the Army to allow another stolen election…

I am glad that he quit he’s like a black Richard Spencer and even if he was a good president he’s spent way too long in office. The only thing I have to disagree with you on is the idea of a democratic election. While there are many great liberals being on the left doesn’t nessicarily make you right as there are also many terrible ones like Hillary Clinton that I think would make the world a worser place if in office. Although I hope a centrist becomes the new president because I think it will bring out the best of both worlds and make us more popular i’m fine with a good liberal or a good conservative being in office and I think the election should have both parties present and hopefully the next president is a good one.

I was not talking about a political party, but rather the system of arriving at a decision. Much as I dislike the leadership of both yours and my countries, I acknowledge that they were elected democratically. The trouble with Zimbabwe for too many years has been that their so-called “democratic” elections have been rigged by Mugabe, his party, and the Army to keep all three in the positions they have held.

I was merely expressing the wish that this time the people of Zimbabwe get a free and fair vote to elect the president and government they choose rather than the continuation of a few individuals with power, wealth, and vested interests deciding the outcome of the election before the first vote has been cast.

Just saw this. He went 24 years without a single complaint but apparently had being behaving in appropriately the whole time.

We’re all a wee bit screwed. Hopefully the country’s economy will implode and their government collapse before they start shooting their missiles at everybody.

We all know he’s a bit of a nutter, just itching to start a war, so we just have to hope that the people around him, and the critical voices coming from abroad, manage to prevent him from getting the world into a position there’s no coming back from.

And with any luck, Kim Jung-un will stop all the posturing. It just gives Trump an excuse to carry on like he is.

Why the hell would anyone want such a weapon of mass destruction, I can understand a katana or a handgun but this is just too far, there’s no reason for such weapons unless if you want to blow up the world including yourself.

You have suicide bombers and kamikaze pilots, blowing up the world at the same time as yourself is only a couple of links on in the chain.

I’d guess that Trump or whoever unleashes such weapons will be so deep and safe underground with their feet up alongside their aides and loved one, that they’ll be fairly confident they’ll all survive. A few million or billion dead for the greater good is a small sacrifice.

It seems to be some sad news today as the supreme court somehow approved of Donald Trump’s immigration ban. I hate how he would prevent innocent people from those 6 countries, who want nothing more than to live a better life in a better country than theirs, from entering our great country and I hate even more that the supreme court allowed this bigotry to happen. To all of those affected, I recommend going to Canada instead as they don’t seem to have a problem with you guys and the conditions there are a lot better than in your countries. It really pisses me off how anti-immigration America has become, especially considering how the majority of Americans originally immigrated here from other countries.
