Um, @Dark Overlord: it’s kind of illegal in the U.K. to own a gun. Much the same here in Oz.

There’s other options, you could use a katana instead, I’ve seen them being sold at flea markets so they’re not that hard to find. Also, why do you call Australia Oz, I don’t get it at all, The Wizard Of Oz takes place in Kansas and the color sections take place in a fantasy setting, it’s definitely not Australia.

Here’s some advice for Ron Nasty, SgtPeppersBulldog, meanmistermustard, Joe, AppleScruffJunior, and anyone else who lives in the British Isles, you should at least consider buying a gun because I’d much rather see those guys dead than you.
Yip cause what the emergency services need in a time of chaos, fear and mass confusion is someone running around with a gun shooting at the terrorists as they charge around cities carrying out their atrocities.
Such thinking as above is beyond my intelligence in it’s, to me, stupidity.

Or if we are on extreme solutions to problems, they could move out to the country. Terrorists tend to attack big targets and Nowhere’s Ville, Europe is less likely to be attacked.

Gun laws are viewed way differently outside of the united states. I personally think it is a good to have responsible citizens possessing guns. Having a gun actually can prevent a lot of crime, the problem is that when you allow access to firearms crazy folk may kill people.

It has to be said that the police were remarkable on Saturday night. The first call in, reporting a van hitting pedestrians on London Bridge, was at 22:08; by 22:16 armed police had shot and killed all three suspects in Borough Market.
Less than eight minutes from beginning to end. 7 dead and 48 injured, 21 still critical.
An expensive eight minutes, but one shudders at the thought of what these animals might have done had they had the easy access to firearms there is a other countries. And had they been armed with more than knives, it is also likely it would have lasted much longer than 8 minutes.

I don’t think it’s stupid to have a gun on you so they can’t go into your house without them dying.
Terrorists are not going into homes in the UK, they are out in busy areas of cities. The answer to the question of how to defeat extremism or stop an attack is not and will never be give everyone a gun as you will only end up with vigilantes, racists, scared people and whoever else shooting dead the wrong people and making the whole damn situation worse.
Armed members of the public will never be a sensible answer to the question of how to tackle this momentously tangled issue.
As for guns in your house do we all, therefore, sit around holding a gun in our hand as we watch TV just in case a terrorist turns up as they’re not going to ring the doorbell and gleefully announce their arrival on our doorstep waiting to be let them in. Or do we have it in a locked safe waiting till an attack when, s**t scared, we take it out, cause nothing at all can go wrong in that situation?

If average citizens possess guns it is very likely that their children, the next generation, will get used to them and the attitude behind their usage and therefore tolerate a higher level of violence. However, it’s so important to teach children from the beginning that violence is not an option.
Anyway, I’m also amazed at the police’s job in the attacks. I don’t want to imagine the pressure and fear they have to endure facing the terrorism.

I personally don’t believe in pacifism, so telling people that violence isn’t the right way to respond to violence isn’t for me, I fully support hit for hit self defense. As for war and violence that could involve death, I can understand you there. I do believe however that if we don’t allow citizens to have guns then we shouldn’t allow police or military to have them either.

For a lot of victims of rapes and muggings, the only way they feel safe after such a traumatic experience is to arm themselves and take their own self defense into their own hands.
But there are many ways of defending yourself without a firearm. Unfortunately for the victims of the most recent terror attacks, there was nothing that could be done. Nothing. You could have the biggest gun in the world at home and it can’t protect you from a heartless bombing of a concert, or from a car running you over on the sidewalk.
I have no idea how to stand against that kind of s**t besides standing in solidarity with your neighbors and showing the terrorists that they will never win.
Example: the most recent Manchester benefit concert. I’m not a huge fan of the artists, but it was a truly wonderful and inspiring thing to see.
When this happens in America, we see agressive political discussion about gun laws or immigration in response to the attacks, rather than a unified effort to honor the victims.

Personally, I don’t believe that violence is the answer for nearly all situations, however, there are some where you have to retaliate (or strike first), as difficult as that may be.

UK General Election results coming in.
Conservatives under May, convinced of easy win, called an early Election but are getting a kick-in and unlikely to get a majority. PM May could be gone.
Labour under Corbyn doing very well after many thought they would be destroyed when the Election was called. Ministers who couldn’t stand him so quit his shadow Cabinet are now either doing an abrupt turn or refusing to answer questions under him.
SNP going to win in Scotland but heavy loses. Many high profile candidates lose their seats.
Lib Dems remain an irrelevance.

When the choice of coalition partners are the Lib Dems and the DUP you know you’re in trouble. Apparently May is refusing to go.

I thought the UK didn’t have elections because you guys are ruled by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Considering how we have immature Donald Trump for president, I now wish we stayed as a British colony.

Thankfully we’re not ruled by her, her basic function is to smile/wave and occasionally take part in ceremonial events.
‘Her Majesty ‘s a pretty nice girl but she doesn’t have a lot to say’
Speaking of Trump, I found the whole James Comey stuff rather interesting yesterday…

Wait , what? You thought we’re not a democracy?
I’m really impressed with what Corbyn managed to do, and I’m glad the Tories lost their majority. Despicable people. The prospect of a Conservative government propped up by the hardline crazies in the DUP is pretty chilling though. Hopefully we’ll have another election within a year and we can get things back on track. Theresa May has to be toast.
I was saddened that Nick Clegg lost his seat. He’s a decent man. Here in Cardiff Central we returned the Labour MP, Jo Stevens, who is brilliant. UKIP are dead in the water. Shame Amber Rudd didn’t join them. What a night. I stayed up till the small hours so I’m currently rather sleepy…
