The PVV party of Geert Wilders has not won the election in the Netherlands, I’m so relieved – one worry less.

The results will be clearer in about 4 or 5 hours. I’m really watching this election closely for two reasons:
1. The Netherlands is probably my favourite country
2. To see if Trump’s victory has affected the rest of the world.

In some surveys in Germany, the victory of Trump even showed a ‘positive influence’ (positive in my opinion) because everyone was so shocked about certain activities (e.g. travel ban) that they have claimed not to support right wing parties (AfD) anymore.
By the way, I think it’s cool you’re interested in European politics too although you live so far away, that’s really open-minded!

Thank goodness Germany has more sense than the USA!
I’m interested in anything to do with politics, so major elections never slide under my radar, especially ones with ultra-right wing fascists.

Well, we’ve got some problems with nationalism and populism too, it has been a taboo for a long time due to the Nazi history but recently right wings have grown stronger again. Anyway, let’s wait for the definite election results in the Netherlands!

Christ, a policeman is reported to have been stabbed.
I hope no innocents are left seriously injured or dead after this.

A junior doctor at St. Thomas’ Hospital (opposite the Houses of Parliament) is being reported as having confirmed the death of one woman and that there are others with “catastrophic injuries”.

It’s now being reported that the policeman who was stabbed has died.
A very brave man who died defending democracy.
A very sad day for my city.

More disappointment for President Trump, he has had to give up on his healthcare bill as he couldn’t get it thru Congress. He really is having a terrible time in power.

I seem to remember him saying on the campaign trail that he was the great dealmaker, that somebody who couldn’t do good deals with politicians must have something wrong with them…
Well, guess what, Donald, first time of asking and you couldn’t do a deal…
His two biggest moves so far, and one has been blocked by the judiciary, the second by Congress…
And this is before he attempts to get the money from the Right Wing of “his” party for his wall and investment in infrastructure…
Loved how he tried to blame the Democrats though.
The Donald comes out all amazed
shocked and stunned that not a single Democrat will vote to abolish a Democrat law.
They’re the opposition, you dick! They’re meant to oppose you, especially when you’re attempting to demolish the social advances they feel they made.
It was lost because the Republican votes weren’t there.
On his first bill, it’s proved neither he nor Ryan can command the GOP.
It’s starting to become interesting to see whether Trump can actually do anything, or if he is already a lame duck President within his first 100 days.

Did someone say “checks and balances”?
On 10 November 2016, I said
I can hope that our built in system of checks and balances prevents him from doing the other too-numerous-to-go-into idiotic things he said he was going to do.
With all due respect to the female members of the Supreme Court and Congress, I hope these institutions hang onto their balls (not literally, of course) and keep this a*****e in check. At least long enough for the clueless sheep who voted for him to figure out they’ve been duped and either call for his impeachment or vote him out of office in November 2020.

I wonder, if everyone who voted third party voted for their preferred main stage candidate, would the results be the same?

That’s an interesting thought, Starr Shine?. But given the extremity of the campaign, I find it hard to believe that those who wanted either Trump or Clinton did not vote for their candidate. In my case, I loathed both of them (still do) so voted for neither. I don’t regret that decision and never will.

I dunno. I live in Illinois. Everybody could vote for Donald Duck and the Democrat would still win in my state.

I might have a different perspective since I come from the swing states where people’s votes have a higher impact.
