I think it wouldn’t be bad for the forum to get some interesting discussion going about world views, philosophy and politics as long as we’re respectful about it.
Would beat some of those status update threads.

Discussions on politics, philosophy, religion etc generally end up in major arguments and horrendous discussions/debates that are almost impossible to bring back under control without thread locks, suspensions and bans.

I’ve see them work on other forms. Could also be a preconceptions that they will turn out bad that causes people to forbid them.

If the thread ran similar to how this thread is running right now, it doesn’t seem that it would be a problem.

@Little Piggy Dragonguy, thanks for the conversation. We can agree to disagree. I always wonder how conservative or Republican people can like The Beatles, since The Beatles (in my humble opinion) basically go against everything such a person stands for. But after all, we are all Beatles fans no matter what, and that is what matters.
Funny you say that. I’m not sure how conservative I am, and I have been told that I’m probably more liberal, but I feel like I agree with The Beatles on a lot of things they stood for. I’m all for peace and love, I’m opposed to war and segregation/discrimination, and Paul McCartney is pretty much the reason I am vegan.
I had a very liberal teacher in high school who told me that Ringo was his favorite by process of elimination since he disagrees with them all on their political beliefs. This always confused me, because I always thought they seemed more liberal, too.

I didn’t know you’re a vegan, now I know the symbolic meaning of your avatar, as it is a pig flying in the sky, free from the guns his friends are being shot with and deep fryers and ovens his friends are being baked within and it shows how although all of you’re friends and family would love to deep fry that pig and turn him into a big hot dog feast, you set him free and don’t want to harm him.

Short-lived UK bank note shock! Possibly.
Lots of controversy about our new polymer £5 note. Seems part of the process uses tallow.
Tallow is a animal product, beef or mutton bones.
Lots of vegetarians and vegans objecting, as well as Hindus.
Bank of England looking for a fix.
Only fix, if polymer notes can be made without tallow, is to withdraw the tallow notes they’ve paid so much for, and were meant to last at least 30 years, and replace them with a new design…

Animal banknotes, omg it could be a way to get the vegan/veggitarians to agree on policy, can’t use cash if disagree with policy.

@Ron Nasty, I brought one of those fivers home with me. Will I still be able to spend it when I come back? Or will it become a “collectible” item type thing?

I think, if the Bank of England finds a solution, it has to involve the withdrawal of the current note, @Ahhh Girl.
It doesn’t make sense for the Bank to announce they’ve found a way to print the notes without the use of tallow, and will be using that method in future, while leaving in circulation a note some people consider tainted.
You already have places refusing to accept the new fiver.
The only solution, if the polymer notes can be made without tallow, is to withdraw the old note and make a slight change to the design on the veggie version so you know it’s not a meat note.
I expect your note to only be legal tender for another few months at most.

IF you didn’t know it hat tallow, would people be able to tell? And if so, how would people find out?

This is incredible.
An eye opener to be sure, @meanmistermustard . Being more aware of small signals can prevent big trouble down the road.
Many moons ago, a gentleman I worked with was going through a very rough patch – poor health, divorce, etc… One day he was telling me about a new hand gun he just bought. I did not think much of it because I knew he was a collector. A couple of days later, he was found dead at home after he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.
The signs were not nearly as apparent as the ones displayed in that video. But it still haunts me to this day, thinking I should have picked up more of a vibe that could have prevented it from happening.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Yeah. It’s a national disgrace.
I hope they sue, win, and get paid in the current new £5.

It’s being reported Carrie Fisher is in hospital in a critical condition following a heart attack on a flight from London to LA.
Here’s hoping this crapfest of a year has no more crap in store.
