Glad to hear you’re okay regarding the terrible disaster over there. It’s a shame (well, that’s an understatement) you couldn’t see Paul, though I imagine there are other things on your mind at the moment. Good luck with tomorrow (today?)

Indeed – glad you are ok.  My wife has some distant cousins on some of the affected islands so I hope we get the same good news from them when communications are back up.

Indeed, ditto. We wish all for you that we wished for Gerell. He was just a more personal connection, because he is there in islands, and I forgot to say that we pray also for your wife’s family.

If every there was a heartwarming story of people coming together this is it: thousands of people lining the streets of San Francisco, thousands donating money to the fundraising campaign, Government officials and the police involved in making it happen, and all for one 5 year old battling leukaemia. Shows the good people can do if they come together with one aim.heart  Hopefully Miles Scott continues to make a full recovery.

What a remarkable few days of charity-giving by the UK public! The DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee – an umbrella group of 14 charities) has raised £33 million since launching its appeal for the Philippines on Tuesday. It was feared this might affect the BBC’s Children in Need annual telethon which took place last night. Instead, it raised a record £31 million. An eye-watering £64 million in just a few days, and no doubt both totals will grow. Sorry to blow our trumpet, but damn we know how to put our hand in our pocket!

No idea where our US posters are from but with warnings over Tornadoes, severe winds and reports of destruction in a handful of US states hopefully everyone is safe. Not been a great day news wise with the Russian place crash leaving 50 dead and the reported, as yet unconfirmed, bomb explosion in Syria.

Stay safe folks and take care.

^^ I’m originally from Chicago and the news of tornado sirens was very scary. We hadn’t had tornadoes actually hit the city itself since the ’70s.

Also hoping Midwestern members have been able to keep safe.

Reports coming in of a major incident in the Bronx Area of New York City where 5 train carriages have came off a rail-track, some of which may be underwater.

Fills you with such dread hearing the news. Just hope there are no serious casualties or fatalities.

Edit: no carriages underwater but 2 people have been killed so far, no number of casualties.

We have more hurricanes where I live than tornadoes. Although for a short while I moved to northern Alabama, where tornadoes are more frequent; however, I was so far out in the country that the sirens couldn’t reach us. I worried myself sick living there knowing I could be blown away at any moment and I wouldn’t see it coming. Never again!

Ah – sad news; but in a way it may be best for South Africa as now they will need to find their own feet and stop claiming every action in his name and trying to use him as a puppet.

Sad news but it’s not unexpected considering everything that has been reported over the last 6 months or so about how seriously ill he was.

Really sad news, thought he was incredible. Can’t say it was unexpected though, he was 95 and was reportedly horribly sick for the past year. Still really sad though.

On Sirius’ Deep Tracks, they’ve been playing songs in tribute, including My Sweet Lord , Let It Be and Across The Universe .

I’m heartbroken, but it’s amazing he lived as long as he did, given the damage his prison tenure did to his health. I feel privileged to have been alive at a time to witness his inspiring example.

A woman cries after paying her respects to South African former President Nelson Mandela, 12th DecemberImage Enlarger

I thought this was a remarkable image showing how far South Africa has travelled since 1990. A white female soldier comforting a black woman holding the South African flag who has just come out from Madiba’s lying in state. For all the distance they have still to travel, one of the more touching examples of how far they have come.
