Another one has gone, this time Janice Atkinson from UKIP. Her chief of staff was filmed asking the manager of a restaurant for the invoice to be greater than the bill received. Previously Janice had called a Thai women from her constituency “a ting tong from somewhere” so about time. Not sure how she remained after making such comments.

Here in the US, we don’t have to deal with these problems. Our senators resign in a much more honourable way; resigning due to using campaign funds to decorate their office in the Senate in a style reminiscent of Downton Abbey.

Ours would first deny they had done it, only admitting it after being presented with photographic evidence before claiming it was for the benefit of the tax-payers as Downtown Abbey is such a great relaxation method enabling them to work more fully in their job of representing their constituents.

Sad news. The loss of one life is always tragic – multiplied when so many people die at once.

The news about this crash just gets worse, as it looks like the co-pilot deliberately crashed the plane.

I have to admit, my thoughts are with the family and friends of the co-pilot. What for them started as a tragedy has turned into something horrific that they likely never to understand, but that they’ll always feel an unreasonable amount of guilt over because of the nature of his suicide. Dealing with a suicide is always difficult, and often includes an element of guilt, I know from personal experience, but to murder over 140 people in the process… that has to be the worst…

The parents of Andreas Lubitz arrived at the neaest town to the crash site with the rest of the families but were quickly separated from them after the news broke and i’m not surprised. There will be a hell of a lot of anger and blame coming out of the grief thrown towards them for the actions of their son. A horrendous situation for all to be in.
The latest reports are that the co-pilot “required treatment for depression“.

I, in advance, apologise to our all overseas friends about what may happen in this thread over the next few weeks.
Today our Prime Minister will visit the Queen, informing her that Parliament has been dissolved (that happened at midnight on the 29th/30th). Between now and the 7th May, the UK is in election mode.
And it is the most unpredictable (and in its way, because of that, frightening) election we have ever had.
There will surely be some reflection of that on the forum, a UK-based forum.
You may hear some loud voices, mine included, about the future of our country, but I – and I hope others – will remain respectful as the future of the “mother of all parliaments” is decided.
Vote Labour!!! Including you Scots!!!

If it makes you feel any better Ron Nasty, Sinn Féin are getting relatively high support levels in opinion polls. If Gerry Adams was the Prime Minister I imagine war would be declared on the UK in a matter of months . Not to mention they want to increase inheritance tax when it’s already 33%.

Innocent people were murdered and their bodies still aren’t discovered but oh yeah the IRA is great….real tough men/women.
Thankfully I’ll be 18 by the time our elections happen next year

So, I’ll be over there during an interesting time period this year. I wondered why the schedule for Parliament tours was a bit different for that time period.

For this Scot, which i am, it will be an SNP vote. I think the SNP are more likely to promote, maintain and secure Scotish interests whereas Labour will say the words and then do what they have done countless times and basically ignore us (see Johann Lamont’s comments when she resigned). Doesn’t help Labour that they are perceived by many in Scotland of having jumped in bed with the Tories over our Independence.
No chance in hell that i’m voting Conservative (even tho Cameron is the better of the leaders), Lib Dems or UKIP.

The Times cartoon where they have Ed Miliband as Wallace from ‘Wallace and Gromit’ is class.
Labour would have a much better chance if they didnt have that prat in charge. At least Boris knows folk see him a joke and accepts it, Ed thinks he can convince folk he’s not and so his team have to spend half the time trying to persuade everyone he isnt. God help the country with him in charge.

Well I would vote next month but unfortunately I’m not quite 18, therefore my opinion is worthless.
Hmm… how to get young people interested in politics? Ah, why don’t we deny them the right to have a say? That’ll do it.

16 and 17 year olds were able to vote in the Scottish Referendum and did and will be able to vote in the Holyrood and local council elections. More proof of why Scotland rules. Westminster still living in the dark ages where they think 16 year olds should be working 34 hour days before coming home and being beaten for asking for a piece of bread and glass of water.
