Serious accident in central Glasgow. A bin lorry (a big and heavy vehicle) mounted the pavement and has resulted in an unknown number of fatalities and at least 7 severely injured. The driver has been described as being slumped over, so it’s sounding like the driver was unconscious. Dreadful thing to happen in a bustling city centre a few days before Christmas.
I do hope nobody @meanmistermustard knows has been affected.

Doesn’t look like it thankfully as its horrific news and a terrible accident regardless of when it happens. I dont know what to say as people have been killed, many others injured and families will have been ripped apart thru it.

If Florida can do it (almost) any state can. A case is coming up in Mississippi, maybe Alabama, where 84% voted against gay marriage at the polls.

Maybe they should head to Kansas and Missouri since they have some places legal and others not.

We are going having a referendum in May this year for legalizing gay marriage. The government have said if we held it now the “no” vote would win because people are idiots- we have this kind of crap being posted online and shoved in doors.
Warning: These will piss you off! (That’s why they’re in spoilers)
How can you be so ignorant as to think keeping a possibly non-existing God (s) happy is enough to stop two people (who exist) from getting married, just because they are the same sex!
I’m not 18 so I can’t vote but I’m going forcing my two brothers to. If the “no” vote win, I will be so angry!

So according to that video two people who are incapable of having children aren’t allowed to be married.
Also there has been some research in getting bone marrow stem cells from a women so that two women can have a child together so are they allowed to be married now?

It is absolutely terrible what happened. And also to see the video of them brutally killing the police officer is awful.
My thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims.
Rest in peace.

So sad to hear of the deaths of the 12 workers at the French satirical newspaper, including four of the countries high-profile cartoonists. Dreadful news.
Yes, really, really sad.
Anyone have any idea how the ‘West’ can manage the increasing levels of ‘islamist’ terrorist attacks? I’m out of bright ideas and it seems these hideous and meaningless attacks are now becoming a regular part of our lives.

Maybe we could try to Give Peace A Chance and look at the root of the problem for people. Instead of responding with violence we should put more in going in to places and boosting their infrastructure so that they can thrive.
Like instead of donating clothing (which is bad for countries textile industries) the can be more focus on highways so people can transport stuff easier.

But we are dealing with people who reject anything to do with a western style of life and want to install a medieval theocracy where they want to repress a number of segments of their own society. I’m not sure Peace and Love is so easy in that situation. I am all for Ghandi when you are dealing with nice people but when you aren’t (Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot etc.) that approach just doesn’t work too well.
I really am honestly wondering what we can do – what we have done to date has just made things worse (let’s face it – there are some crazies on both sides) – but how do you deal with irrational people who have too many guns and bombs?

French police killed the two perpetrators of the attack at a printing factory near Paris. They also killed a confidant who had taken people hostage in a kosher supermarket in Paris but 4 hostages were killed sadly by the gunman. Another man is still at large who is connected to the supermarket gunman is wanted for the killing of a French police officer. What a sad week this has been for France, Europe, and the World. Al Qaeda has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attacks. At the same time as all of this we have anti-Islamic, neo-Nazi rallies going on in Germany and Northern Europe. I hope that this does not signify a trend of violence but I fear that if more incidents happen, things may escalate into another Middle Eastern war. Like trcanberra has said, these people wont respond to diplomacy or aid.
Look its a thingy! A fiendish thingy!

That is because there isn’t something for them to fall back on. There should be focus on the infrastructures so that countries can have enough stability for education so that things can get better for people. If people don’t have anything, then they are more likely to turn to non productive ways of income.
