Matt Hancock, the UK Health Secretary, has resigned for breaking social distancing rules when he cheated on his wife by kissing a colleague. Being an incompetent idiot who was heavily involved in dodgy deals during the early months of Covid that wasted hundreds of millions of tax payers cash wasn’t seen to be that much of a deal.

Not a massive surprise. He may have survived had it just been an affair, after all his boss has a long history of affairs, but the hypocrisy of spending more than a year telling people what they could and couldn’t do while breaking those rules himself made his position untenable. The colleague he was pictured kissing, someone he has known since university, has also resigned her postion as a non-executive director of the Department of Health (a job she was given by Matt Hancock, which saw her earning £15,000 a year from the taxpayer).
Hancock is also reported to have left his wife.

I’d love to know how I get a job earning £15k for at most 20 days work.
I think he’ll be back in a year or so regardless of whether the Tories decide to use him as a cess pit in which they can dump all the bad contract deals which £m’s.

I think it involves having an affair with the Minister, which as a hetrosexual male means Priti Patel or Liz Truss. £15k nowhere near enough.

What happens if your Scottish and therefore sleeping with a Conservative MP would almost be an act of treason?
Do the 15 -> 20 days indicate the number of days you are to sleep with the MP to earn the £15k or is that open to negotiations between the parties involved?

this happened in the town I live in
this is the church my family went to for about 25 years (although I personally stopped attending over a decade ago) and my parents were volunteering for them up until this incident, pretty crazy to have something like this happen so close to home
the residential school discoveries are horrifying, I totally understand why someone would do this in response, and I do believe that lives are more important than property
but I really dislike that a lot of people I know are, like, stoked on this happening

How on earth can anyone look on at the increase in shootings in the US and live with that. Oh, but the constitution etc and all that…
I remember the horror and all the words spoken after the shooting at Sandy Hook and yet almost 9 years on it’s getting worse. Oh, but the constitution.

The entire American system is based upon fear, so long as Americans are afraid of things – the government, black people, illegal immigrants, communists, socialists, Democrats, Republicans – guns will still be freely accessible making it possible for seriously mentally ill people to shoot children in schools and that’s ok cause at least I got my gun to protect myself, except for when I accidentally kill my own children, like the 142 children that were killed in unintentional shootings in 2020, an increase of 30% compared to 2019.
God bless the Second Amendment that was written in 1791, where would I be without my assault rifle?!

No, @AppleScruffJunior, the system in America is based on political donations. Poll after poll shows that the vast majority of the American public want tighter gun controls, up to 70 to 80% regularly state in polls that gun laws should be stronger than they are.
The reason that they are not is that money from the gun lobby to back candidates is so important that Congress(wo)men and Senators dare not vote for restrictions that the majority want, but that those that are putting money in their pockets don’t.
It’s about lobbying dollars being more important than voter wishes.

It’s been announced that Jodie Whittaker will be leaving her role as Doctor Who in 2022, along with showrunner Chris Chibnall. New Doctor and new boss on the way, what turn will Doctor Who take next?

I confess that I even felt like crying when I read this… In Brazil we are lost… The vaccines (despite the delay in purchases) are saving us.

I really wish we had a somewhat competent gov’t, the UCP is why we’re in this pickle
thankfully, I have both my Pfizer shots, I’m just collecting EI right now/not working (not really any jobs to be had anyways), and I live about an hour from the city in a town where there haven’t been a whole lot of cases

What a day…
A 7.2 earthquake has rocked Haiti, killing at least 304. Those poor people just can’t catch a break.
Another nation that can’t catch a break is Afghanistan. The news tonight stated that the entirety of the country is now under Taliban rule, bar the capital Kabul – and experts are saying that Kabul is likely to fall within the next 12 hours. Really, really not good.
Oh, and to go along with the floods in much of the world, the fires in Greece and Turkey, and the earthquake in Haiti – Japan is now the latest to enjoy some flooding. My goodness…

While i’m no fan of Joe Biden, i kinda feel bad for him right now. He finally gets us out of an unnecessary war with Afghanistan and when the Taliban immediately took over the country, which is unfortunate but expected (as with the fall of Saigon) and was going to happen regardless of when we left, everyone’s shifting the blame on Biden and many people on both sides want us to go back and kill even more of our brave soldiers in an unwinnable war.
While i wish the Afghan people the best in fighting the Taliban, i think we should overall be celebrating the fact that we’re at war with one less country.
