DLive, a far-right Twitch alternative, has banned several notable users (most notably Nick Fuentes and Tim “Baked Alaska” Gionet) due to inciting violence, with the former advocating that we kill those who vote to confirm Biden’s victory and the latter streaming himself inside the Capitol (while having COVID and ignoring all safety guidelines BTW) and calling for a civil war.
While I’m not a fan of big tech companies having such a powerful influence over public discourse, it’s just so hilarious watching these idiots lose their platforms simping for a man who has done literally nothing for them while in office.

Donald Trump has become the first president ever to be impeached twice, after the House just voted to impeach him again.

Donald Trump has just been impeached by the House of Representatives, becoming the only US President to be impeached twice. Unlike his first impeachment, when the House split totally along party lines, this time 10 Republicans voted to impeach and 4 abstained.

Marine One has taken off from the White House lawn, taking the 45th President of the United States to Andrews Air Force Base, where he will say his last words as President, before slinking off to Florida in a final act of disrespect to the peaceful transfer of power.
Not long now until we get the 46th President of the United States.

While i’m FAR from the biggest fan of Biden, i’m glad to see us finally get rid of Trump and i hope Biden’s able to rebuild America and maybe if we aren’t as partisan towards him like we were with Obama and Trump, he might be able to get some good things done.

I’m not overly optimistic for Biden’s presidency, since we know his loyalties are with the status quo, but hopefully having reasonably competent people in charge of the coronavirus response will help the US do better in that regard. His plans with regard to healthcare are mild at best, but if the administration does manage to insure even a few more people it’ll be an unambiguous improvement.
Also, although the conditions that led to Trump’s ascendancy (deindustrialisation, inequality, unaddressed racial divisions, a corrupt political establishment, the billionaire controlled media pushing constant culture wars, the problems social media have created etc) are still very much present, I’m hoping that without a figurehead will mean that the movement that has formed behind him will hopefully begin to fracture into warring factions and dissipate. Trump constantly toured the country for his entire presidency, so he was really able to keep his base engaged and passionate, whereas without him doing that (unless he decides to run again in ’24) the movement will hopefully lack a clear leader to unite behind, and there will be big questions to answer in terms of who will be the successor to Trumpism, and whether or not it will seek to use the GOP in future, or perhaps destroy it (as some hardcore supporters have been calling for) in order to do something else. In any case, the more divided these people are, the less productive they’ll be, which is good news for everyone else.

After four year of chaos, disharmony, lies, personal attacks, self-promotion, splits and almost civil war at the end, I don’t think a term of working to the status quo is a bad thing. If the Democrats can then win another term, they can look to bring about real change. A lot of healing and reconciliation is required throughout the nation in so many ways, Biden is already working to undo some of the impact Trump’s term had, and that is not even touching upon the damage the fallout of Covid will have on the economy and people.
And to top it off, we all know Trump will be shouting utter drivel into a microphone from a bridge a mile off in the distance hoping that someone will listen to all the crap he spouts.

Well, we all got to the other end. 4 long years of finding the next policy through Twitter, environmental destruction, further stigma against minorities, etc…
No more. I will be quite happy with the status quo, if it just feels… Normal. If it just ticks over. If it just gets the job done.
Surprised that Donny didn’t pardon Rudy Guiliani, but bot surprised at all about Bannon.
Edit: forgot to post this:

Yeah it’ll be nice to dislike the President of the US once again without despising him with every bone in your body.
Here’s to a hopefully chill, potentially productive 4 years!

The problem is that the status quo (if we’re taking that to mean the Obama years) led directly to Trump. You can reverse Trump’s legacy if you like, and I’m glad that Biden is attempting to do so (though unless he’s willing to expand SCOTUS that’ll be a pretty futile task since Trump nominated three conservatives), but unless you deal with the underlying problems that allowed a Trump-like figure to be successful, we’ll only end up with another one in four or eight year’s time.

The date for Trump’s impeachment trial has been set. The House will deliver the impeachment charges to the Senate on Monday, and the trial will begin on 8 February. It’s going to be interesting to see how many Republicans are done with Trump.

2 very interesting pieces of news:
First, reddit was able to successfully able to manipulate the stock market against hedge funds that were betting on GameStop to fail, causing their stocks to soar. This is great news because it shows that everyday people can subvert the neoliberal establishment if they know what they’re doing.
Next, Poland increased restrictions on abortion. While there are definitely some good reasons to keep abortions safe, legal, and rare, some are using ableist rhetoric to justify their opposition to this legislation, which i find very concerning.

Aung San Suu Kyi has been arrested and detained by the Myanmar military in a coup d’état. Suu Kyi won the November election there in a landslide (83% of the vote went to her party).
edit: worth mentioning that Myanmar really only become somewhat democratic about 10 years, further proving how fragile their democracy is.

Biden refuses to rejoin the Iran deal unless Iran scales back their nuclear program. While i’m not a big fan of Obama, the Iran deal is among the best things he ever did as president so it really pisses me off to see Biden express hesitance towards rejoining this perfectly reasonable deal that Trump took us out of.

The senate has voted to acquit Donald Trump, 57 – 43 (10 votes short of the number needed to convict, 67).
I cannot believe there are that many republicans who still don’t find him guilty. The evidence is overwhelming…

The main reason so many Republicans voted to acquit Trump is because he’s out of office and while it’s true that Trump can run again in 2024, the riot destroyed his chances of winning re-election.
I’m not so sure. It’s incredible but unsurprising what people are willing to overlook for whatever reason and millions of those who voted for Trump will not have been swayed by what happened in the final few months. Whether it is enough to vote him back in is the question.
It’s not a surprise Trump was acquitted, it was expected before the trial even began due to the number of Republicans required to vote against him, and there was no way so many were going to break party lines. The evidence was never in doubt, it was far more to do with going against the party you stand for and, as has been seen so often, it takes a hell of a lot to break party lines. Morals, conscience etc are never that high on the list. It’s how politics works and why so many are deeply disillusioned by politicians.
I watched an interview on Good Morning Britain where a Labour MP was unable to say her high-up colleague was wrong to tweet months ago that it was a terrible move for the Government to go solo when negotiating for vaccines (ie not be part of the EU negotiations). Clearly the Government were right considering the events that followed and so the Labour MP spent 5 minutes looking so incredibly incompetent, pathetic and stupid as she tried every trick under the sun to not answer. Instead, she could have said “yes, it was an error but…” and moved the whole issue on within 10 seconds but that wasn’t going to happen (from 3:33 in the video below).
