They’ll probably come to the UK next, we put on very nice do’s for swanky freeloaders.
No doubt – the queen can have them all over for high tea. It really annoys me how much these things cost to host just so they can all get together to plan how to keep us all downtrodden for the next few years; plus the people who live in the city have their movements severely restricted due to the insane security arrangements they put in place.

Its a world eventScotland beat Republic of Ireland 1-0.
Is that like Andorra beating San Marino?
On a related note we are hosting the Asian Cup in a couple of months and a number of games will be here in Canberra – I’m hoping the finances get sorted in time so my son and I can go to a few matches.

Scottland and R.O.I. are very close in terms of level and are in the same qualifying group for Euro 2016 and now both sit on 7 points along with Germany whilst Poland are on 10, all teams having played four matches (Georgia and Gibraltar (near Spain) are the other sides). Two teams qualify automatically whilst the third go into play-offs. Scotland haven’t reached a major football tournament since Jacob saw the ladder descend from heaven and this is our best chance. Plus we get bragging rights.
Good luck on getting your finances sorted and then in getting tickets, would be a wonderful occasion to take in some matches.
Should add that Scotland have the tendency to balls it up spectacularly just when it seems we are about to do something wonderful. It’s what we do.

^ Yes; being an expat I tend to follow the fortunes of the ‘home countries’ a bit, plus a lot of Manchester United players have starred for them in years gone by (is Fletcher fit enough to be playing for Scotland again?).
I caught a few matches when the Olympics were on in Sydney and that was fun, fingers crossed for January – though most of the teams will die from the heat, even the evenings in Canberra at that time of year can be really oppressive.

Within the next hour or so, the Grand Jury’s decision will be revealed on the shooting of unarmed Michael Brown in Ferguson by policeman Darren Wilson. However it goes, I hope the US stays peaceful in its wake.

From what i understand the authorities are prepared for riots and i think there is little chance there won’t be regardless of the verdict. Either there will be accusations of a cover-up and whitewash and police brutality resulting in an unlawful killing. I dont really see another way it will be taken by many considering the unrest that is stirring. I really hope i am wrong.

Policeman Darren Wilson not to be charged with the unlawful shooting of Michael Brown. I prayer for the streets of America tonight. Those who protest, please do so peacefully.

Protests are happening in New York, LA, Chicago, Oakland, DC, Seattle, and Philly according to ABC News. So, far only the riots are happening in Ferguson. Sad sad.

Hundreds of thousands are expected to attend a rally paying tribute to a young German woman of Turkish descent in Berlin today (Sunday).
I hadn’t heard this story until I chanced upon it an hour-or-so ago. It should have gained more worldwide attention.
A 22-year-old student, Tugçe Albayrak, was in a McDonalds in Offenbach on 15 November. She heard screams coming from the restrooms and went in, confronting and stopping a group of teenage males who were harassing two women.
When she left the McDonalds, an 18-year-old “man” who had been among the group she’d interrupted beat her around the head with a baseball bat as she reached her car.
Her parents switched off her life-support machine on Friday, her 23rd birthday.
100,000 have already signed a petition for her to be given Germany’s National Order of Merit.
The world needs more like Tugçe, and less like the scum who beat her to death for doing the right thing.
Rest in peace, Tugçe. You were a brave and beautiful young woman that the world is poorer for the senseless loss of.

One story that doesn’t get any easier the more you read it. Too easy to make rash remarks so i just hope Tugçe’s family and friends can find some way to come to terms with all that has happened. A very brave woman for getting involved when many would have walked off ignoring what was happening.

Oh, my. Poor young lady.
Panola county isn’t far from where I grew up. My high school sports teams played against their teams. I will have to check with the folks back home about this story.
