I was about to post about that, @QuarryMan.
It’s interesting as it means Trump’s move on Friday may be found to also be breaking US civil rights law.
The case presented by the employers, with the backing Trump, was that Title VII, which forbids employers from discriminating against employees on the basis of sex as well as gender, race, colour, national origin and religion, does not apply to those who are gay or transgender.
The Court found by 6-3 that is does apply to those who are gay or transgender, with Judge Neil Gorsuch writing, “An employer who fires an individual for being homosexual or transgender fires that person for traits or actions it would not have questioned in members of a different sex. The limits of the drafters’ imagination supply no reason to ignore the law’s demands.”
Now, if there is a similar section in the Civil Rights Act relating to the provision of healthcare, and I don’t know if there is but would assume there is, and a case reaches the Supreme Court… Well, they’ve already indicated which way they lean on the subject.
We could see many of the protections Trump has removed from the transgender community while in office break US civil rights laws.

Apologies if where I’m going with this post comes off as better suited on the politics and philosophy thread (it can be moved there if the mods deem so), but I’m curious to know has it been discussed on here about Penny Lane being considered for a name change as part of the current revisionism of different statues and memorials?
Of course, I’m all for the removal and/or changing of things dedicated to slave owners, and in this case, I can understand if it comes to Penny Lane having to change to something else as part of this (hopefully something else Beatley). However, I feel like I could also make an argument for it to remain in that I think our lads, being figureheads of peace and unity and famous supporters of desegregation, had already rightfully stole away it’s name from being mostly, if not completely associated with the man it was named after with a great song. So to summarise, I’m a little split on this.

I the same way the Nazis have claimed the swastika, which was once a symbol of peace and is now a symbol of evil, I think the Beatles have claimed Penny Lane as a symbol of Love and Peace and forsaken whatever original meaning there may have been.

That’s a relief!
However, I also have a bit to say and awareness I want to spread regarding a particular statue – although this one is not directly linked to these current events, I’ve noticed it brought up recently in a few places. I think this is absolutely disgusting and definitely needs taking down along with the slave masters. It doesn’t help knowing the controversy surrounding the BBC regarding this subject matter uncovered a few years back.
Apologies again if I’ve gone too far with this post. I know I’m not usually this serious about something!

Trump confirmed that he’s actually slowing testing down so there aren’t as many cases.
Even a preschooler can see how ridiculous this logic is and the fact that our own president actually believes that hiding something will make it go away is really shady and concerning.

That was known about a month ago when it came up in a press conference on the lawn outside his home; he blamed the number of positive cases on the fact that they were testing so many and Trump didn’t want the test count to be too high as then the confirmed cases would also increase. There is logic there but it’s the kind of batshit crazy logic that leaves you dumbfounded and unable to speak so they can walk off claiming some kind of victory.

I did like the reports of Trump threatening to sue his own election campaign manager over a poll by CNN showing he was behind Biden. It’s really quite pathetic and sad that the US president would go down that road, especially this early on.

What I mean is, he keeps making things harder for himself by having gaffes at every opportunity. In the primary his poll numbers dropped every time he opened his mouth, the only way he was able to win in the end was by getting a good start by concentrating on the first state and then using that success to convince the other moderates to drop out in order to prevent Bernie from winning.
