London is starting to close down. There are no forced closures in place yet but after Boris Johnson made clear coronavirus is spreading fast in London, and recommending people avoid theatres, clubs, bars and restaurants, they are starting to close off their own back.

Scary times. I don’t normally watch TV news but I watched the Channel 4 news this evening and they were showing footage of New York City right now; it’s very weird to see a place like Times Square in the daytime almost deserted.

I don’t get the stance; “we need everyone to avoid all social places to stop the virus spreading but we will not force them to close as we’re dealing with adults here and they are capable of making the decision not to go”. Many humans are stupid and the idea of going to an empty cinema and seeing the latest film with just their mates will appeal. Same as all those numpties who keep going to the pub.

Our casinos are closing which hardly EVER happen. Only happens with hurricanes like Katrina and that’s once in a blue moon!

Since I work with the elderly in home care, my job is having me take my temperature every morning before work. If one does become sick they have to have a doctor’s release before returning to work. Luckily, so far so good just sinus pressure (no fever) that I’ve been taking care of with Flonase and Advil. Spring weather begins early here and it messes with my sinuses particularly with pollen.

What really annoys me about the Government stance is that while the “softly, softly” approach does appear to be having the desired effect of stopping people going out, and theatres and cinemas closing off their own back, along with many bars and restaurants, gyms, etc., were it made mandatory, these businesses that are losing their income could claim for loss of earnings on their insurance.

Very annoying and potentially detrimental for the theatres that Johnson recommended be shut down. As they weren’t ordered to shut down they’re unable to claim on insurance. In the eyes of their insurers they’re voluntarily shutting up so they’re not getting insurance money.
For ALW and MacKintosh, it’ll be fine, for the smaller independent theatres this could lead to them closing and probably being bought out by the big dogs.

Damn, didn’t think about that. I bet Johnson is well aware of this, too.

Yeah it makes me very sad for the small theatres that were struggling enough the past few weeks. Now they’re operating without any income full stop and have to refund all customers that purchased tickets out of whatever reserves they have left.
ALW is a massive Tory so hopefully he’ll be able to get a word in so he isn’t losing millions with all the theatres he owns. Either that or he has some super villain plan to bankrupt all the smaller theatres so he can get rid of the competition and just put Starlight Express in every single small theatre.

Some happier, funnier Coronavirus situation. Watch the webcam from our tourist centre ‘Temple Bar’and see all the confused tourists in their tacky Paddy’s Day gear, wondering why the pubs are shut.
Also despair at the groups of 5 people all huddled together talking.

Here is a Beatle-related tip for you during these rotten Covid-19 times.
We should be washing our hands often. Soap and water are better than hand sanitizer when you are home. And one should wash for about 20 seconds to make it effective. My suggestion to you to keep it Beatle-ly is to sing Her Majesty while washing your hands to assure the correct timing.

I have pretty good timing, so I usually just count 20 seconds, or 25 or more if I’m being extra vigorous.
But now I’m wondering how many times I can howl out “Hold you in his armchair/You can feel his disease!!” in that amount of time…
Stay safe, forumpudlians (and family/friends)

So it is official.
Following advice from my service manager I phoned my GP and I am to self-isolate for 12 weeks due to having Addison’s Disease. I am in the very top group of most at risk and so from this Saturday I off work and I have no idea at this time how i will survive. Work is my social contact, very healthy and positive, and it will be on hold.
12 weeks stuck around my house.
It’s all a bit shitty at this moment.

This form is going to be spotless come June. Every thread in every subforum will be without blemish as duplicates sorted, wrongly placed moved. Ill be ranking the best fingernails of each Beatle by the end of April and giving a detailed review of John and Yoko’s ’Self-Portrait’ film.

I don’t skype, Facebook, snapchat or or anything else. No point signing up to tinder or something more instantly intimate as can’t get within 2 metres.

Perhaps now may be a good time to look at getting a form of social media so you can stay in touch more easily with others. Totally up to you though, of course…

And I’ll be helping… the one thing I was doing (teaching kids the play I wrote) has been postponed for a month or so, so it looks like it’ll be the forum spring clean part II…
