Indian-administered Kashmir is under lockdown after India’s decision to revoke its special status of autonomy. More troops are sent and communication with other parts of the country is cut down.
This strongly reminds me of China’s actions in its autonomous districts and, more recently, in Hong Kong and Taiwan. My thoughts could be exaggerating, but I feel these multi-ethnic countries are walking on similar paths to violence and hatred…

It’s probably safe to say nearly all crimes are under-reported…………But we were talking about hate crimes…Often a case of one person’s word against another…….You have the figures for them before you…….ignore them or equivocate it’s up to you…… However, under reported or not you must agree it’s a small number when compared with ordinary violent crimes.
I just don’t see a US riven with white supremacists…..The figures do not bear that out.
I would add though, that the Elizabeth Warren inspired killer’s motivations have gone under-reported by the left-wing media, perhaps because it doesn’t fit their narrative. Warren’s not responsible in any way….Just as you can’t hold Bernie Sanders responsible for his supporter who tried to take out a Republican charity baseball team……… but in saying this it lets Trump ‘off the hook’….. a hook that he’s not actually hanging from…. except in their rhetoric ……
‘Trump’s a racist he’s dividing the country and causing these shootings’……it just sounds too good for the talking heads of the anti-Trump media to pass up……..Let’s forget the mass shootings that happened under Clinton, Bush or Obama…..It’s Trump….It’s all his fault. Obama ‘s friendship with Farraken (sp) and the ‘America’s chickens have come home to roost…..Not God bless but God damn America’ dodgy pastor Jeremiah Wright who Obama spent his Sundays with. A free pass Mr Obama from your friends in the media….! ‘Why thank you’
What else can the Democrat media pick on when jobs and the economy is booming…..Factories are re-opening. The US is a net exporter of energy…. And the much hyped Muller Russia report has fizzled out after 2 years of constant media attention …Now the left has completely dropped it and is desperate to change tack, change the subject and seize upon a new talking point that they feel has more milage.
‘Trump the racist’…..’Prove you’re not Mr President’……It used to be you had to ‘prove he is’ ……Proof of guilt used to be the gold standard but since the Kaveangh hearing and the shenanigans of the Mueller report the emphasis seems to be on the accused proving their innocence…..That goes against all the tenets of English law.
Ah well…….

I hate to be the one to say it but . This thread is supposed to be about current events and we’ve turned into a long discussion about hate crimes and whether or not Trump is racist/homophobic.
To help bring this thread back on topic, i’ll quickly bring up these points:
1. There is no legal definition of hate speech, this was unanimously reaffirmed by the Supreme Court as late as 2017.
2. If you don’t think Trump is racist, i think reading this will change your mind.
3. Regardless of Trump’s views on homosexuality (of which i am unable to get a clear answer), He chose Mike Pence to be his vice president, someone who is extremely homophobic.

A contradiction here in what you say you will do……. and what you go on to say to stir the pot…….
Looking at Trump’s actions as President I don’t agree he’s racist……
Though I’ve heard it said, ‘nothing is racist to a Republican;’ and ‘everything is racist to a Democrat’……Perhaps the truth lay somewhere in the middle.
As for homophobia?……What has Trump or Pence done in office that confirms your opinion?
We can agree that we disagree…..I’m sure there will be opportunities to pick these threads up again in the future…….

Ah yes…obviously…how can someone be a “racist” if they don’t keep black people as slaves or physically attack any colored citizens…Oh I forgot, if these attacks do happen, the reason can still be need of an “immigration reform”, as Trump said, not racism…
Though I’ve heard it said, ‘nothing is racist to a Republican;’ and ‘everything is racist to a Democrat’……Perhaps the truth lay somewhere in the middle.
I prefer to look at this issue this way: how you judge potential racism relates to your tolerance. If you’re greatly sensitive about equality and dignity of certain people, you won’t stand a tiny difference. If you’re always understanding and have the endurance of a saint (after all you aren’t going to be the victim), you won’t even blink an eye on someone threatening congresswomen to get back to Africa. Me, for my own and my conscience’s benefit, would like to set the bar a little higher than the current level.
(Apologies for some potentially offensive words)

There are definitely places where that is a problem, like some parts of Baltimore and Chicago. Most places aren’t that bad I don’t think. Anyway, we all know that this is the real news:

Goddammit Epstein is dead from “suicide”. Should have had him under 24/7 surveillance with constantly changing guards with the hope that they wouldn’t be paid off by the billionaires who availed of “his girls”.
Bloody can’t wait until the world realises what a monster Prince Andrew is, one of the things that everyone thinks everyone else knows like Savile.

Here is a perfect example of Trump’s cynical manipulation of his base.
As a part of his trade war with China he keeps hiking import tariffs on Chinese goods to the US, and adding more items to the list of goods affected, while constantly telling the American public, and more importantly his base, that it wouldn’t affect what they had to pay in the shops because China would pay the tariffs.
This is a lie. The companies importing things pay the tariff, and the raised price they have to pay is, naturally, being passed onto American consumers.
He had a 21-page list of goods that were to be added to the tariff list in September at a 10% tariff rate. Lots of them were occasional buys, so as with the tariffs so far, you wouldn’t have lots of Americans noticing the price jumps at the same time.
He’s now pulled many items from the list realising American retailers would not have imported their Christmas stock by September, delaying when the import tariffs will hit them until 15 December, by which time everyone will have imported their Christmas stock, not wanting lots of his voters wondering why their Christmas presents were so much more expensive this year.
He’s cited “Health, safety, national security and other factors” as the reason.
Among those items removed from the September list and moved to December are cellphones, laptops, video game consoles, toys, shoes and clothing. All of which, I’m sure you’ll agree, are things bought as Christmas presents, yet few of which it’s easy to see how they would have affected “Health, safety, national security…”, but “other factors” such as lots of his voters realising at once how much prices were going up with him as President.
An example of the hit the American consumer will feel when Trump does impose tariffs on those items in December? Apple have already said that they expect to raise the price of an iPhone in the US by between $75 and $100 because of the tariffs.
He didn’t want lots of his voters wondering why they had to pay so much more for an iPhone in December than they would have three months earlier.
