Offline I’m somewhere in between @Wigwam ‘s position and the globalists. I like the idea of institutions like the EU, but they’re not without their problems. There are some issues, (like climate change, space travel, terrorism and human rights) that I believe would be sorted out better if confronted by a lot of nations working together, but more domestic issues deserve more domestic solutions and control.
I just heard that a vote on whether to have a second referendum was defeated today, but apparently it wasn’t actually endorsed by the people’s vote movement and will be tried again sometime in the near future.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Disturbing news from New Zealand as two mosques in Christchurch have been attacked by at least one gunman, possibly more. Multiple fatalities are reported. One suspect in custody but much of Christchurch remains in lockdown in case there are more gunmen and Muslims have been advised to stay away from mosques across the country in case it is a wider attack.
Not the type of news you expect from New Zealand. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has described the events as “one of New Zealand’s darkest days. Clearly what has happened here is an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence.”

Offline Police now have three men and a woman in custody. One of the shooters is reported to be Australian.
Police have also reported that IEDs were found attached to several vehicles.
Early reports suggest at least 27 dead and many more injured.

Actually I’m not that mad at him–he’s telling the truth to some extent. Quite a lot of people are obsessed with anti-Muslim and nationalism ideology, which I believe is promoted by the authorities. You wouldn’t like to see those disgusting comments on this tragedy I’ve read today. The murderer knows that he’s a fascist, those people aren’t even aware that they’re the same as him.

I agree. What I think the puberty-level-IQ guy meant was “the government with the closest political and social values to my own is the government of the People’s Republic of China”
I can’t understand how someone could have the conscience to go and gun down multiple strangers.

Offline What really gets me about this fecking arsewipe is his claim that his motivation was to show (white) people that they should be afraid of immigration, particularly Muslim immigration. Er… myself I don’t get how gunning down around 100 innocent men, women and children and killing half of them would make anyone afraid of anything but the type of disgusting white supremacists he represents.
That he wasn’t on any watchlists is a painful reminder that we must remain vigilant against all extremism whatever the ideology they claim justifies and fuels their hate and violence.

Offline All the reports I’ve seen say none of those arrested were on any watchlists, @QuarryMan, and I’m pretty sure that the Australian PM, Scott Morrison, said they were unaware of him until these horrific events.
I’m sure that had he been on an Australian watchlist, their security services would have informed New Zealand’s.

That is correct. He wasn’t on any Australian watchlist, but his twitter page really should have been a tip-off.
I’m glad to see the death toll hasn’t risen yet but 49 is still a sickening number…
