Got baffling when Ashley Young got punted up front in the desperate hope that a shot on target might come. Its one thing to be praying that a young kid from primary school (who by the way has been about as threatening as a overripe aubergine recently) is going to score you the goals; putting all your hopes on Ashley Young is beyond words. Still, looks like LVG has after 18 months finally realised that thumping long aimless balls up to the immovable tree (aka Fellaini) doesn’t work and that is nothing if not progress.
In a couple of years he might come to realise that the more shots on target you have the more chance you will score. Thankfully for all Man U fans but that time Louis will be picking up his pension and spending his Sundays pottering around the local garden centre.
Its always a good laugh hearing a deluded Louis coming out after a dismal game with 1 shot on target to claim Man U played well, created a few chances and were at least as good as their opponents.
Next season you’ll have the thrill of watching football under Mourinho’s watching eye. Compared to how it currently is it will be kamikaze football.

Well we’ve bumbled our way to an FA Cup semi-final; which is never a bad thing.
It was amusing to see Fellaini (brought on to use his head) score with his knee; and fail to defend against West Ham’s goal by trying to use his knee when he should have used his head. As you can see, I’m easily amused this morning 😉
Rashford’s goal was fantastic. He’s still so young that it’s natural he has dips in form – but he seems to be a real talent.
It would be nice to win it this year and get back level with Arsenal on wins. And even though I’m not much of a Rooney fan I’d like to see him win it once in his career. I’m not confident we can win – but you never know.

Didn’t see much of the game but interesting that once again when Louis need a win the shackles come off, Man U have a go and look reasonably threatening – why they don’t play that way more often is a mystery. Often its one or two shots on target per 2 games and the most boring gameplay imaginable.
It’s Aston Villa at home on Saturday. There is absolutely no point in doing anything other than having a go as Villa are one of the worst teams in England; don’t win that by a couple of goals at least then LVG and the players will be even more of a laughing stock.

And so, with two games to go, 5000-to-1 outsiders at the start of the season, Leicester City are Premiership Champions. Remarkable achievement.
Up the Foxes!

I was actually born in Leicester. I think my wife is (not so secretly) looking forward to Gary Lineker fulfilling his promise in more ways than one!

And there you have the brutality of the Premiership: Van Gaal wins a 12th FA Cup for Manchester United, and within minutes of the cup being hoisted aloft, all the talk is of his impending sacking, with Mourinho predicted as being announced as new manager early next week.
It is a cruel game.

Looking at it that way it is but bearing in mind Man U have spent £250m there has also been
- a 5th place finish resulting in Man U missing out on Champions League football for next season and therefore millions of £’s.
- a title challenge that never materalised despite the failings of all the main regular title challengers
- failing to get out of the CL group stage
- getting knocked out of the last 16 of the Europa League
- a number of atrocious results and performances
- the lowest number of goals scored by Man U team since the 1989-90 season
- terrible football leaving fans incensed
- frequent rumours of dressing room unrest
Keeping LVG would have a massive mistake in the long run; now he can walk away claiming he won a trophy, it was a three year project he never got to see thru and if he had Man U would have won the league next year.
At the very least Jose Mourinho will sort of one of the worst Man U squads in a long time, he might even play players in the correct position.

I wouldn’t disagree with any of that at all, @meanmistermustard. LVG has been doomed for months, while JM has been the heir apparent. I believe I was the first one here to JM would be the next manager.
It was quite sad watching LVG in the press conference, being asked about his future, and just going, “I show you the cup”.
JM is a dangerous choice, but he is also what might be needed, a man who is not going to be so covered by the shadow of Sir Alex.

England drawing with a shocking Russia in their Euro 2016 opener. Haven’t laughed so much after the Russian equaliser due to the garbage being spouted by the ITV commentators after England took the lead -> “Justice for the England 11” and proclaiming they are going deep into the tournament before even one match is finished. Perfect examples of how the media make me want England to fail.

And being knocked out by Iceland to put the cherry on the cake 🙂

So; the start of a new season – with a tinge of optimism on the horizon.
A new manager who seems the happiest I have seen him in years.
4 pretty useful new (or returned) players across all positions on the park – and some good youngsters breaking through.
Predictions for Manchester United this coming season @meanmistermustard?

It’s a huge improvement on the squad over the last few years (even Ferguson’s last season) and the football should be a major upgrade on the boredom sustained for two years under LVG and haplessness with Moyes. I don’t believe that Pogba is worth £87m however we live in a time when EPL clubs are paying between £15m and £25m for players who are worth a fifth of that price (at some point the market will crash and some clubs are going to be in deep s**t – it happened in Scotland when they spent money on players who weren’t worth it, admittedly on a far reduced level, and only now are said clubs getting past that).
Will Depay be useful? Will Rashford get a start? Will any of the other blooded youngsters from last season be seen? How the hell is Ashley Young still there?
I still believe that Man U need at least one central defender; i’ll never be convinced that Smalling, Jones or Blind are good enough for Man U so that leaves Bailly as it stands. I’m also not sure about your right backs tho Shaw back will be a major boost on the left.
Will also be interesting to see who gets sold before the window closes. It looks like Schweinsteiger will be sold and I wouldn’t be surprised if Fellaini goes (something most Man U fans will be praying for), especially after his mistake for the Leicester goal at the weekend. Januzaj, Mata, Herrera and even Blind have been rumoured to also be available.
I doubt you’ll win the league but you should get top 3, tho i’d expected nothing less than 2nd would be deemed acceptable.
Man City, Chelsea and, to a lesser degree, Liverpool are stronger; Arsenal are doing what Arsenal do (that they didn’t win the league last season should be deemed a massive failure); Tottenham will be somewhere in the top 6.
Should be a far better season than the last. Hopefully the football on show will be more exciting.

A decent enough start; can’t complain about a 3-1 away win. I’m looking forward to seeing Pogba play – I expect he will be on the bench for fitness reasons but should get some game time.
I watched the Hull – Leicester match as well; some nice spirit from the home team.
^ spot on about Arsenal 😉

A decent win against a hard team to beat at home.
Pogba will be playing as soon as he can, there is no chance that Herrera and Fellaini will be your midfielders of choice for the season unless everyone else gets injured. Last season that could have been a real possibility.

Agreed. Herrera has been frustrating; unlike Fellaini he seems to have what it takes – but doesn’t display it often enough.

So – the Manchester derby is coming up on Saturday; it’s live and screening at a decent time down here so HKL and my son will be watching with me.
Any predictions?
I’m finding it hard to call but think we (United, for anyone in doubt – not the blue meanies) have a decent chance of a tight win.
