I hope Chelsea beat us 5-0; I’m really worried we might sneak a win and suffer a false dawn. I can’t recall hoping we would lose anytime before in 50+ years of support.
I want to see LVG and Giggs and Rooney gone as soon as possible. Anyone, bar Moyes, is welcome to replace them – that muppet re-signing Rooney was the beginning of the end.

Bit harsh for you tr……But I feel your pain.
I like Rooney……..And don’t see him as a part of the problem.. Giggs and Rooney can only do, or try to do what LVG asks of them.
I heard managership described thus……. ‘You can give a taylor the most perfect material but he still has to make the suit a perfect fit.’
I’d come from the Beach Football competition going on here…..where Norway just beat England in the semi-final……..It was a fair result but the score should have been drawn, if that makes sense. (we missed two penalties, an English affliction). The football played by local expats in England’s case and a team of semi-professionals flown in from Norway for the tournament, was fast and committed. Getting back from that for Man U’s game it seemed dull and flat in comparison.
I’m losing my love for the Premier League……A personal feeling and understand if it’s not shared. Too many players for me that at the end of the day only care about their paycheque. I’d like to see, win or lose more British teams I can get behind. Teams of the past with a core of English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh had more passion and enough skill to completely dominate Europe from the late 60s on. Nowadays the promising British players are snapped up, (so that their rivals don’t get them) and then put out on loan rather than given a fair chance.
……But even with the ready-mades brought in from abroad our record in Europe is not so hot these days.
Back to Rooney………He gives his all and Man U would be poorer without him…….I think he would have more success under a manager with a more ambitious style.

Rooney has been in decline for 2-3 seasons. He holds the team back for 10 matches then pops up and scores a few goals in a run to keep his place – then goes back to sleep for another dozen.
We could have had 30 million for him when he asked for a transfer a while back – now we will be lucky to get 30p.

There was a moment in the Norwich game which summed up Rooney nowadays. A nice ball played thru and Rooney of 3, 4 seasons ago would have shrugged off the defender and been through on goal; instead he was slower than a depressed tortoise on valium with a bad case of arthritis in its knees and was easily caught up before being swatted away. His reaction wasnt to go after the ball to get it back but to whine to the linesman whilst sitting on the ground about how he should have gotten a foul. LvG should have dropped him months ago to put a rocket up his backside but didn’t and now they are in a much worse position they cant risk it. Doesn’t help that if Rooney is dropped (the same goes for Terry at Chelsea) the media go into meltdown, ignore everything else and fixate on that.
7 shots on goal in the last 4 games speaks volumes. Mourinho is available and would get them into the Champions League, get back into the title race and get the fans back but is not a long term solution. Additionally its gotten more complicated now as the question is do they believe they are a realistic attractive prospect for Pep who is leaving Bayern – if they even want him.
Giggs isnt the problem, his role and influence will be severely hindered and limited by LvG who will ensure that everyone follows his philosophy down to the very last breath.
Attack-wise its not like the issues weren’t foreseen at the beginning of the season when they were left with Memphis (would take time to bed in), Martial (would take time to bed in (granted he hit the ground running but has dropped off since) plus is far too young to take all the strain), Wilson (too young and inexperienced – proven when shipped out to Brighton) and Rooney (past it). £250m spent and the squad is laughable.

Blatter and Platini both banned from all football related activity by FIFA’s ethics committee for eight years over “disloyal payment” made by Blatter to Platini.
Obviously both will appeal. It does seem unlikely there is any way back for two of football’s most powerful figures though.

Very sad. Platini was a hero of mine when I was a kid.
What’s really sad is that it’s not surprising given all his recent posturing.

Blatter I’ve no sympathy for. As one journalist has commented, it’s like getting Al Capone for tax evasion. You use what’s there and easy to prove.
I watched his press conference, the most telling line was when he said, “I am sorry… for me”.
Platini I have a little sympathy for. He was one of the world’s great footballers. He did look for a while like he wanted to clean up FIFA. However, taking both at their word, him agreeing to sign a contract that doesn’t mention the biggest payment FIFA made to him because that payment was supposedly a “verbal agreement” and taking that payment just before Blatter was due for re-election, it stinks.
If I’d made an verbal agreement with someone that included a deferred payment of well over £1 million, I would want that in the contract.
I also think it’s sad that UEFA are still supporting him.
It is so unlikely that the Sport Arbitration court will overturn the decision of FIFA’s ethics committee.
I bet Blatter wishes he had never set it up.

Its good they have been banned tho its noticeable that even yesterday Blatter was telling a newspaper he was expecting the charges to be dropped. Corrupt, deluded and only ever interested in ensuring he retained his reputation and kept in power. He was one of the biggest hindrances to football modernising and getting with the times. If the payment of £1.2 was above board (which I highly doubt considering all the details) Platini is incredibly stupid for having no evidence bar it was a gentlemen’s agreement.
There is far more needing to be done to clean up football however and the allegations of bribery surrounding the Russia and Qatar World Cups are going to hang over FIFA for many years. The election for Blatter’s replacement is in February, interesting to see who gets in and what he actually does (and not just says he will do) to try and regain some trust and respect.

If in charge at the worst you’ll come away with a 2 – 0 defeat with LvG claiming it was good how you limited Chelsea to only a few shots on goal, lament one of the goals on the defending, and blame the entire defeat on a midfielder not scoring at 0 – 0 whilst ignoring that the strikers were anonymous and managed 1 shot in the entire game (which will probably not even be on target). He will then end with the team has to play better but he has full confidence in his ability as a manager and how the fans were behind the team for the full 90 minutes. Its the same almost every week.

Progress made tho: LvG finally dropped Rooney. Say it takes him 3 months to realise what everyone already sees then you only have to wait till March for Louie to realise the style of play would be deemed poor for a side in the East Sussex County League and change it – and just in time to battle for a top ten league finish. Not that it made much difference dropping Rooney and he will be back for the Chelsea game. Not sure about LvG tho, probably a bit too soon to sack him. I don’t know what the answer is. Injuries mean no major changes can be made.
Looking back in 1,000 years scholars and historians will look back, try, and continually fail to understand why Ashley Young is playing at right back and Fellaini is getting a regular start.

“Injuries mean no major changes can be made.“
Even that is LVG’s and/or Woodward’s fault – after all the player sales we were left with a very small squad of quality players – far too few for a busy season including the Champion’s League. People rabbit on about how much money we have spent without paying much attention to the number of players we sold and then didn’t fill in their positions.

To be fair tho a good few of those who went had to go as they weren’t any good. It was a strange transfer window, and not the first since Fergie and Gill have left.

Agreed – but we still badly needed decent players in a number of positions (not least after Rio and Vidic left); positions which were obvious to all here and elsewhere; but they were completely ignored in three successive transfer windows. I honestly have no idea what the clowns in control are up to.

The question is who of the quality needed would have come at a price Man U were willing to pay. The evidence would suggest none. Its just been a complete joke for years – even before Ferguson left.

Haven’t seen any of the game except for the goals. Just gone by reports, post match comments and what LvG said. There was said to be an improvement in the second half but not sure if that was down to Rooney or that it was such an atrocious first half display it could only get better.
