Man U manager Louis Van Gaal referenced ‘When I’m Sixty-Four ‘ after Man U beat Spurs today as its his 64th birthday. In the video (at the link) he says
“When you hear what they are singing, all my wishes are fulfilled.”
I saw that – nice to have a Beatles link in our football thread 🙂
re your post ^^ ; yes, no idea what’s taking so long to get another defender in – Jones is already injured and now everything depends on Smalling who is due his next injury soon. He had a decent match yesterday to his credit. The team is still suffering from players being out of position; LVG should have switched Mata and Memphis at half time.

4-0, four nil, 4-0.
7-1 on aggregate and in the group stages – I’ll take that any day. I feel sorry for Hernandez though – that look on VG’s face!
Still think we need a striker and a defender before the window shuts but our midfield is looking awesome.

Yip, after about 16 years you have a decent midfield and Ramero looks a good replacement for De Gea if he leaves. Sadly you’re defence looks as shaky as last year whilst your attack force is somehow worse, if Rooney continues to sparkle in the league you’re screwed. God help you if you get a big side in the CL draw tomorrow and when you come up against one of the top sides in the Premier League who have a real go; going up against Swansea away should be enough to make it nappy wearing time.
A heavy victory against Club Brugge (close first leg, they fell apart in the second) shouldnt be taken as a sign you’re a quality team who will challenge for anything if you dont invest in a couple of new players.

I have a depressing feeling they will try and “spin” it that way. Odd things seem to be going on with transfers; a few weeks ago VG was saying he needed to strengthen in 2 positions – we both know what they are – and now he has been saying he is satisfied with his squad. Maybe all the ADM money is going to the owners? I have no idea – I guess we have to wait until the end of the window to see.

I think LVG saying he’s happy is to quiet any speculation from the press and also relieve any if they do fail to sign at least player.
Man U took so long messing about with Pedro Chelsea walked in and signed him. Woodward has a history of pissing about with signings only to mess it up – Fellaini being one example; took so long to buy the guy you spent more than you had to.

When you lost Pedro…..Woodwood hinted he had bigger fish ‘frying’.
He did. He also rushed home from the tour of Australia a while back to sign Fabregas and we all saw how that went. He seems to dawdle over a few quid and the targets get tired of the penny-pinching and go elsewhere – then he spends over the odds in panic buys at the last moment.

As the European section of the Transfer Window closes it looks like another shambles from my team – more players shipped out, paying over the odds at the last minute for relative unknowns, strange goings-on in Spain.
The UK window closes tomorrow – MAYBE things will work out but I’m not hopeful.
It looks like another long season ahead – full of more lame excuses from management. It all looked so good earlier in the window when we finally sorted out our long-standing problems in the midfield.

Utterly bizarre and bemusing occurings.
I think there is more to it than meets the eye. Man U failing to send the papers over to complete the De Gea transfer stinks of a deliberate balls up. As for their transfer policy – who knows what their plan is. I’m now not sure they have one.
£250 million pounds spent and the squad is a joke.

Seems you may have been right, with his new contract being signed and all.
Anyway; Manchester United 3 Liverpool 1 !!
All is well in the football world today – great debut goal from the new kid on the block.

No doubt he’ll be sold to Madrid in the next summer transfer window for a good sum of money. De Gea gets a game and therefore to play in next year’s Euro’s, Man U retain a world class goal keeper who will save them numerous times this season as well as making millions when De Gea does go. I doubt the amount Madrid do pay will be much more than they would have and get the keeper so everyone is happy.
The Liverpool game has to have had one of the worst first halves i’ve ever witnessed. It was atrocious. Liverpool were dire and Man U weren’t any better. Second half Man U were slightly better. Plenty to be concerned about if you’re a Man U fan tho. For one Fellaini is not a forward.

The early games are great for me here……Everton Vs Chelsea KO time was 6:45 in Thai money…… I did my usual….. Counted the Chelsea Englishmen on 1 finger, compared that to the 5 or 6 for Everton and sat back cheering the Toffees on with a rare (incongruous considering my support), bottle of ‘London pride’ at my side.
What a great game! Everton were brilliant for most of both halves. A Scot came on as a sub, MMM and got a perfect hat-trick……Header, left foot, right foot. More than decent performances throughout the Everton team but John Stones was simply brilliant…….I hope this young man stays fit. The world’s his lobster.
I hope I’ll be cheering Chelsea on to beat Arsenal next week……….I hate Wenger….!! But depends on how many Englishmen he picks.

Awful injury to Luke Shaw this morning – I hope he can recover and play to his full potential again next year. He must be feeling terrible after all the hard work he had done to regain form.
The match itself confirmed what we all knew – we are doomed without a recognized striker. Someone like Benteke, who was readily available in the window, would have had a hat trick with the number of decent openings we carved out.

Lines of a scene from one of my favorite TV shows, Modern Family:
Gloria : Okay, maybe it’s not the curse, but you know that my family has a very dark side. My cousin Aurelio was a horse thief. My Uncle Carlos fixed soccer games.
Jay : Did he teach them to pick the ball up and throw it down the field? ‘Cause that’s the only way you fix soccer.
Sorry…couldn’t help myself…carry on.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Nice to see Pereira get a goal on debut – he looks the goods.Report on Sky Sports News said the fans were so bored by the football they resorted to singing rugby songs.
I guess watching us knock it around for 60-70% of games is not what many fans expect or want.

They want fast attacking football, they get lots of neat passing miles away from the opponents goal.
Watching Man U this season has been dire. The Southampton game was marginally better than for most of this season but it still was a dirge.
Suppose it comes down to is a number of wins achieved thru safe monotonous play better than fast attacking football that exposes your defence and may costs points.
