I preferred it when First Division teams were British.
There was a Cup Final in the 70’s between Arsenal and Liverpool. Of the 22 only two could play for England. So we’ve always had ‘foreign Johnnies’ in our league.
That’s been the main difference. Nowadays our managers are off around the world cherry picking….All home countries lose out including English kids.
Even my son’s school in Australia are at it……..He’s played for his school’s first team at every age. Next year, yr 12 is his last. The first XI get over a 1000 spectators for their matches. Fairly big deal for him. He’s a shoe in if the school doesn’t offer some free scholarships to beef up their chances of success.
I think England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland should stay and play as a group.
After all there was always something better about The Beatles together…….. than when they went their own ways

Yes, that one is out of left field; as is news that Chicarito is fit and will join the pre-season tour. I hope that one is genuine and that it’s not just to try and lower the prices we are being asked to pay for a striker. One defender now and I think we are set, it seems De Gea will be around until the end of the season at least – unless he is part of a deal for Ramos.

England drawn in Scotland’s group for World Cup 2018 qualifying along with Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania and Malta.
Very happy as a good chance of Scotland getting thru.

Well, if Scotland can’t come second in that group (behind England), they’ll never see the World Cup Finals again. That group looks pretty much like it should be a walkover for England and Scotland.

The good thing is that with England in our group Scotland will be more determined than normal; generally its to qualify but we will want to screw up your (England’s) hopes as well. We are better than we showed in the recent friendlies.
And of course the media will be demanding maximum points and no slip-ups from a group they’ll be convinced England will qualify from comfortably and that heaps pressure on an already over-rated side with a tactically dodgy coach.

England are very honoured to be in Scotland’s group………I’m sure those North of the border would think it a wee bit presumptuous for the hated English to be calling it England’s group.
Woefully poor as Scotland currently are, they are I’m told, improving and I agree they will play well against the ‘Auld Enemy’…….. Scotland in particular need to avoid tripping up elsewhere.
Hopefully we both qualify and go on to do well for once. I’m 62 I don’t have many World Cups left to enjoy. It would be great to have Wales and Ireland there too.
If Scotland, Wales ROI…..qualify and England are not there…….that would make death seem more appealing.
Good luck to all the home nations.
I haven’t seen the news yet……..I’ll check who the Yanks, Thailand and Australia have got……..I’ll be following them all.

Might be an idea to watch Scotland before you call us woefully poor as you obviously haven’t seen us play in the qualifiers (unless you saw us in two friendlies against England where we weren’t anywhere near our best and England deserved to win).
As for hating England, far from it. We just know how easy it is to wind up all the English fans gnarling at the bit to express any angst at anyone who isnt lauding them. Yeah we get annoyed by the constant shoveling of s**t whenever the media open their mouths about the England team however at the same time we’re pissing ourselves laughing as we know that as soon as you come up against any quality side its self-flagellation time after an average performance followed by a humbling defeat. Its just slightly more difficult than to rile a Celtic or Rangers fan – and slightly less fun.

‘Woefully poor’ was meant as a wind-up. But I take back the ‘hating England’ comment…….Because the love you feel comes over so strongly in the paragraph below….

I repeat….’Woefully poor’ was meant as a wind-up.

Don’t worry MMM…..we will have plenty of fun anticipating this clash…….and wind ups work both ways……..’Woofully peer’ was coined by one of my favourite Scots Alan Hanson.
There was a time when facing Scotland was more daunting than it is today but you can still beat us……I’ll be very worried when we face each other. But I reiterate I will support Scotland against anyone except England.

A few years back England were far more daunting; for a long time they were far better than us. Its closer now tho England would still just about beat us if both teams played to their highest possible levels. But then under Craig ‘we’re garbage and going to lose so lets not bother trying to win’ Levein the Blind Dogs of Guernsey Under 7’s could have beaten us, same with a few other coaches. I’m quite prepared to admit for a while our national side was dire, plus we always find a way to balls it up: Georgia away 2007, Tom Boyd’s own goal v Brazil in 1998 to name but two. Its what we do.

Now now MMM don’t get all maudlin on me.
Hopefully we will both qualify and then we can see about buggaring it all up. But let’s just get there together. When England play Scotland I want to win….and if by Scotland winning against another team England lose out then I will want Scotland to lose but apart from those two scenarios I shall be cheering you ‘sweaty socks’ on.

There have been rumours floating that Johnny Evans is going to be sold before the transfer window closes. Would imagine its just a load of nonsense as Man U dont have enough defenders but then lat season showed that Evans, Jones and Smalling are not at the level Man U require to challenge for the title and in Europe. Strange they’re finding it so difficult to find one, you’d think that they’d have other targets lined up if Ramos remained at Madrid.
Pedro is meant to an imminent arrival, expect Rooney to go in a sulk and demand he’s sold if Pedro starts 1 minute more than him.

Man U manager Louis Van Gaal referenced ‘When I’m Sixty-Four ‘ after Man U beat Spurs today as its his 64th birthday. In the video (at the link) he says
“When you hear what they are singing, all my wishes are fulfilled.”
