Specific artists? No. A new style of music? Absolutely. Casablanca definitely introduced my to the whole “swing/big band” style of Sinatra, Deano, the rest. As did The Mary Tyler Moore Show’s very tasteful and delicate “Just before commercial” use of strings and the like. And their Theme Song? Great trumpets!!

(film – music it introduced me to)
Reservoir Dogs – George Baker Selection
Pulp Fiction – Chuck Berry
Watchmen – Philip Glass
Memento – Bowie's “hours…” (never really got into it before)
Trainspotting – Brian Eno's “Apollo”, Iggy Pop's “The Idiot” and “Lust for Life” and New Order's “Temptation”.
You all will have read that Dave Dee is no longer with us. But Mickey and Titch and I would like to carry on the good work that's always gone down in number two.

Cool question, the movie Running with Scissors (great movie btw) introduced me to Nat King Cole when I was younger.
The Sandlot (and obviously many others) – Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs
I love when that happens in movies, when you hear a song so good you stop the entire thing just to figure out what the hell you just heard.
I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine

The first one that comes to my mind is the excellent “Robin of Sherwood” TV series from the 80s. If you have ANY love for Robin Hood stories of mediaeval mystics check it out!!! A lot of it's charme comes from the fantastic songs by Irish group “Clannad“. Check out the soundtrack album or “Banba”, “Macalla” or the “Greatest hits” collection. Great Irish instruments and some of the best vocal arrangements you can find anywhere and fantastic sound.C
I loved that TV show when I was a teen, but I never got into the music of Clannad. I might try it though 🙂
I really love Soundtracks, but I have to say I focus more in original compositions rather than singers or musicians. But if I think of someone I discovered thanks to a movie… mhhhhhh…. I have to say…. Moby and Massive Attack. Moby's The Sky is Broken and My Weakness songs were used in 2 X Files episodes (the most famous, when Mulder discovers her sister's fate)
And Massive Attack, I knew them before watching Michael Mann's The Insider but I became a huge fan after listening in the final credits Safe from Harm. I also love Teardrop, theme from House, M.D.
I wasn't a big fan, and I loved Daft Punk's Tron soundtrack. Now if we talk about favorite composers for movies… then we need a new topic.
Edit : Ok I love tons of songs from soundtracks, but they're the only songs I like from those singers. I was a teen in the 80s and that decade was the golden age of “Songs from the movie”….

Six Feet Under introduced me to more underground type music. My mom would play this in our old van a lot when we still knew where it was. I really liked the music on the soundtrack and from that I found out about the Classics IV which I really enjoy.

Aw Wayne's World – helped get me into Queen, but I mostly blame my parents.
Life on Mars (American) – reminded me why I liked the Moody Blues. Isn't Life Strange?
I also get songs from commercials, but this one I found before Ford did. I'm a bit proud of that.
Good topic.

My friend sent me that song before I saw the commercial. He had also sent me the song Stars on Still Water before too so I knew who Jonsi was. I felt proud too lol

The Blues Brothers and Ferris Bueller's Day Off — Aretha Franklin, and the comedy that John Hughes masters. I pulled a Ferris today becuase I have a hell of a cold. I can barely breath, and yeah. Then, I have to write a three-page paper, so this is the perfect time to start.
