I must confess, I'm a dedicated Eurovision fan. Who's your favorite this year? I'm going with Ireland, those twins are hilarious.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is Eurovision? Is it some European talent contest?

a-hard-days-night-paul-10 Ohh boy. It's the biggest TV show after Football World cup in Europe, duh, with over 100 people million watching it. It's a singing competition, though I think dubbing it show competition would be more appropriate.  It was national shame for Finland ( well, not for me but anyway) not winning it until 2006 although Finland had been competing for 50 years or so(Lordi won that year).

I don't know which US channels will show the “show”, but I'm certain they will.  You can have fun and watch how crappy songs Europeans have.

I love Eurovision! The music is really cheesy (with key changes galore), but it's a good spectacle and awesome to watch.

I'm so glad that they broadcast it in Australia. According to Wikipedia, it's not shown in the US. Australia and New Zealand are the only non-Euro countries who get to see it.

It makes for good fun amongst my friends and I, and you get bragging rights if your country wins.

I'm going to be supporting Greece, cos I'm half-Greek, but I don't think they're going to win it. I have no idea who will.a-hard-days-night-paul-10

Yup, Russia is Europe.
The UK and France are both part of the “big five”, who skip the qualifying rounds and are automatically put through to the finals.

Oh, also, Eurovision is how ABBA became famous. They won the 1974 (?) contest with Waterloo. So it's a fairly big deal a-hard-days-night-john-3

Is that true?? So strange.  But, you can watch it on eurovisiontv. com! If you have a computer (and it seems the ones who write here have ).

I like Greece song, that singer has awesome voice. But I’m not so fond of that rapper though… Ireland is my favorite and I think it will also be the winner

One other good thing: Eurovision parties, where people bring food/drink from their chosen country, and everyone gets very drunk. The music may suck but it’s usually good fun anyway.

I really don't like Eurovision, but I don't mind letting those who do like it stealing the television for one night a year.

I told her I didn’t

Americans/Canadians on this forum luck out. Americans will stick with American Idol, America's Got Talent, and soon-to-be X Factor.

Well we all shine on like the moon, the stars, and the sun.

10 points from Finland to Ireland! That was the highpoint this year. But winner… Nahh. Azerbajn what ever, I already forgot about it, so boring and ordinary song. Well, Europe got what it wanted.

Some accounts I have read has it as Asian, others European. I wanted clarification on whether they are considered European or Asian. Now I know. Thanks to Paulsbass and Paulrus.

I liked Iceland's performance, actually. That might be slightly influenced by the Hofner bass that they used, but I liked it.

Well, I don't think that Swedish singer really is gay, his performance just seemed to me like it was made for gay audience. That tune is stuck in my head…
