Strange how some find “personal affront” being taken when merely disappointment that they are longer active Forumpudlians has been expressed, along with an recognition that they choose to talk elsewhere, and that their choice not to post here as often as they did has had an effect on the forum. As clearly shown, some who are part of the Discord are still active Forumpudlians, others have chosen not to be, but it seems there’s something wrong with noticing their absence and regretting it.
I don’t think anyone is taking offense to being told that their presence on the Discord has led to a noticeable decline in forum activity. We’ve commented on that multiple times among ourselves.
I think people are taking offense to being told that they cannot/should not vote in this year’s awards when the awards have previously been open to everyone – from the person who joined 10 years ago to the person who joined 10 days ago.

There’s nothing at all wrong with noticing a poster’s absence and feeling sad about it. However, when that disappointment makes itself known through passive-aggressive posts blaming those posters for a lack of activity on the forum, and results in talk of restricting those posters from participating in voting, that doesn’t seem right.

I expressed a personal opinion on what I would have done had I been running the poll. I wasn’t running the poll. I made no attempt to run the poll. I made no suggestion to those running the poll, publicly or privately, that the poll should be restricted to active Forumpudlians. I merely stated an opinion that those who vote on the poll I’d prefer to be active members of the forum rather than spectators.
Easy way to stop people being disappointed by someone’s absence from the forum, and then wondering why they’re bothering to vote in a poll about a forum they’ve largely stopped contributing to, and if they should be allowed to, is for them to start contributing to the forum again.

I believe every single one of the 2723 users should be able to vote. Regardless since they are all bb members and this poll is for the forum, not for some vague “active members” definition.
The only def for that is making one post within the first year of creating your account.

Is the poll still open, or is this for next year’s?

Your vote may still count if you get it in quickly, @Let It Bleed. The link to vote can be found in this post.
There’s a certain irony to some people being the most active on here they have been in months in response to an expression of disappointment that they are among those who have decided to rarely post on the forum anymore, and seeming to take offense that it’s been noticed, and the suggestion their choice not to post on the forum is a loss that has had an effect on the forum.
I repeat, barring people from taking part in the poll based on their level of activity on the forum was never considered or discussed. A personal opinion was expressed, that’s all. Speaking only for myself, had I made a choice to no longer be active on the forum that much, I wouldn’t be voting in the end of year poll, nor jumping up and down proclaiming all the reasons I no longer chose to take part, while announcing I was voting in a poll about those who made the best contributions to the forum in a year I’d largely chosen not to contribute.
I’m sure a definition of an active Forumpudlian could easily be come up with that is more than them having one post on the forum at any time in its history were it to ever be a serious consideration, but it never was a serious consideration or the subject of any conversation. A “What if I was running I was the poll?” was thrown out there and some have taken it as a serious suggestion, which it never was.

I agree with what you’re saying, @Ron Nasty. It’s common sense. Why would I leave a forum with a select group of others due to my disappointment with the forum, then A) Have a strong desire to vote in the forum poll even though I am for all practical purposes no longer even a real member, and B) act as if I am being prevented from voting in the poll because of the opinion of one active member who is not even a moderator?
All I can say is that the whole thing seems cliquish and petty, especially since the whole move to this Discord seems to have been done secretly and by invitation only among a select group of favorite members.

That’s not what you said, though, is it? You didn’t say “Were I so inactive, I would not vote in the poll.” You said “You all are lucky Holey and mmm got to the poll before I did or none of you would be allowed to vote.” You understand how threatening that sounds, yes? How that sounds like something you might genuinely push for in next year’s poll?

It was not at all secret. There is no “select group of favorite members.” It was discussed quite openly in a thread a while back, and an open invitation was issued.

I asked for an invitation more than once and was never given access. One invite was sent, which didn’t work, and further requests were ignored.
Had I been allowed to join the Discord though, I would still have remained active on the forum, as some on the Discord have done.
