Before anyone starts posting about whatever concerning these awards, goes on strike or starts debates.
No categories have been decided yet, when they are they will be posted here. I genuinely had no thoughts towards anything to do with this until about 8 hours ago and have no idea what the categories are or what discussions and decisions were had 11 months ago. I’ll read up later. We’ll work out the details etc, post them and then it’s up to everyone else what they do.
My entire approach to this, and most other aspects of life, is summed up very well by John when he sang
If it don’t feel right you don’t have to do it
Just leave a message on the phone and tell them to screw it
After all is said and done, you can’t go pleasing everyone
So screw it
Or, to be deeply flippant, John also summed it up when he said.
We hope everyone will get behind the Awards and vote and we will do our best to make them enjoyable for all.
We might even get a sponsor, put on a launch show, host a prize draw and stream the results live.

So far as I’m concerned, @meanmistermustard, the decision to remove Beatles News as a category was made following a “vote” last January. I did not consider that yourself and Holey might choose to ignore that decision.
Should that be the case, I will of course take part.
However, I did not want to leave my position unstated until after the poll is launched, only to be told that the categories were based on those used last year, and accepting the removal of Beatles News as voted for by a small group of Forumpudlians, and that categories would not be changed after the poll’s launch.
No point in saying I won’t take part in any way for the reasons I’ve given after the poll has been launched and the categories had been set in stone because voting was underway.

We haven’t chosen to ignore anything as we haven’t decided anything. As said, I have zero knowledge of what was and wasn’t decided last year, I don’t even know what categories were running.
Clearly we aren’t going to please everyone so I’m not going to worry about doing so. We’ll do our best and what others decide to do is up to them.
Thinking about it. We could adhere to the vote and omit the news category yet have a special one off category covering Beatles News. The options are limitless.

Indeed it is true – with the lack of time left in 2021, @meanmistermustard and I have stepped in to run the awards this year. Due to said lack of time, we are running exactly the same categories as last year, as the conversation in January never really reached a conclusion and was had mainly by members who aren’t as active here anymore.
This being said, a conversation in January and then again in October/November next year would be worth it, as I think there are categories that some people have suggestions for improving.
When you vote, please PM myself and meanmistermustard with confirmation you just voted (can’t have any voter fraud…)

A few points of note.
Voting closes at the end of the year, but I have no idea how it works around the world and I’m not sitting looking at a clock to do it automatically.; the results will follow within the following day or three (hopefully). After that the discussion of the awards going forward will be reopened as I think everyone agrees they need revamped. Everything previously written and the vote will be taken into consideration, we are not going to ignore what was, but opinions change and new people are around. We will also take into considering if categories are overlooked in the voting as if no one is voting then is there much point of having it. The aim is to have a clear agreed number of categories next year which are decided well in advance so they are ready to be upped at the beginning of December 2022 regardless of who runs the award. That at least is the plan.
As for this year, as said by @The Hole Got Fixed, due to time constraints there quite simply isn’t enough time now to work thru the changes which were agreed without having too short a notice period for voting. Already there is only a little over two weeks before voting closes and we would like to get it going before there is too little time for folk submit their entries. For that reason, and a few more, it was felt it would be better to go with last year’s and then have the forum discussion as mentioned above.
To all who vote, we do appreciate it as we know you spend time doing so. I had thoughts of no-one bothering so it is also a relief to see PM’s come thru. Going down the more contrived route, I would encourage people to take the time to vote as it’s a good way of getting some general forum togetherness and spirit but also the results will have some impact on near year’s awards. Please remember, you can vote for in as few or an many categories as you like, there is no requirement to cover all of them and it doesn’t matter if you have been on the forum continually since Joe created the site, you’ve taken breaks every Now And Then or if you have been here 10 minutes. It’s for all and by all. If you do have any questions please PM THGF and/or myself or post in here and we will try to assist.

Worth the admission price alone. Why it got buried in the vaults for 24 years will be discussed, analysed and debated by fans and scholars for centuries.

PSA: Only received 3 votes thus far, and with only 5 days to go we will need more votes than that to announce any results.
Well if no one else will vote, I’ll put my winning chances in.

To show our appreciation to those who vote we will be sending some limited edition Beatles breathe to those who do.
To show our commitment to the environment there is no packaging and it wouldn’t be efficient to post it as that has a carbon footprint, therefore we’ll waft it to you thru the air. Please keep an eye out for a short different breeze in a week or so as that could be it. We can’t give a delivery date due to environmental factors outwith our control and we take no responsibility for you getting it.

I’ll ask outright as I have no issues doing so. I haven’t paid attention to the votes over the years as I don’t remember who posts what and where.
Is there a reason for people not voting? If so we might as well get the discussions going to see if there is any life in these going forward as so far there have been three people who have submitted votes.
Hopefully that doesn’t come across as annoyance as it’s not, I’m genuinely wondering if there is any interest in these taking place.

I have nearly always voted on the 30th or 31st in the past, @meanmistermustard, and am planning to do so again. There may be others who do the same.
I think one of the major problems is that the Discord set up during the early days of Covid has replaced the forum for many who were formally regulars here as they have no restrictions on what they can do there. Forumpudlians who were regulars here this time last year, who we would’ve been surprised if they hadn’t posted in a few days now often don’t post for months; which also helps to explain why the forum has slowed down to the degree it has in recent months, with so many valuable Forumpudlians who had much to add and kept the conversation going. Most, if not all, I’m saddened by their apparent loss to the forum.
I think it could be a combination of newer Forumpudlians who are still finding their way and a large clique of formerly very active Forumpudlians who rarely appear here now because they prefer to keep in touch with each other by Discord.
As to discussion on the future of the poll, I honestly don’t think that discussion should take place until around October/November next year, as we may well be back to a more active community by then than we’ve had in recent months due to exodus of many who have been active for some years.

I have no idea what discord is or what all that section means. I presume the condensed version is many regulars are no longer as active on here, if at all. That’s true.
I think the discussion on next year’s awards will be kept open until towards the end of next year. Whatever happens it will need to be be finished with by the middle of November to get it all ready for December (if there is an awards). Nothing is decided but that is what my thinking is.

@meanmistermustard
Discord is a free voice, video, and text chat app that’s used by tens of millions of people ages 13+ to talk and hang out with their communities and friends.
People use Discord daily to talk about many things, ranging from art projects and family trips to homework and mental health support. It’s a home for communities of any size, but it’s most widely used by small and active groups of people who talk regularly.
The vast majority of servers are private, invite-only spaces for groups of friends and communities to stay in touch and spend time together. There are also larger, more open communities, generally centered around specific topics such as popular games like Minecraft and Fortnite. All conversations are opt-in, so people have total control over who they interact with and what their experience on Discord is.
People love Discord because it’s a home for all their communities and groups of friends. It’s a place where they can be themselves and spend time with other people who share their interests and hobbies. There’s no algorithm deciding what they should see, no endless scrolling, and no news feed. Conversations on Discord are driven by shared interests.
It’s what they used to watch films like Give My Regards To Broad Street together, etc., last year during the early days of Covid.
