If this is the way you would like to express your discontent with the changes to the poll, you are free to do so. I’m disappointed that that it’s come to this, but you can do whatever you want to do.
So @Little Piggy Dragonguy what’s our next step? Should we start brainstorming descriptions for poll categories and new names for “most likely to post things that make you go hmmm?” Would something along the lines of “Most Insightful Poster” be good, or is that equally vague (though less wordy)?
I’m excited to start the process of implementing changes
Edit: haha i did a fiddy

I think we could come up with a Beatle pun for the “most likely to post things that make you go hmmm?”
.
I’m sure the Beatles did something wacky to warrant such a thing. Maybe like “Intermission poster” based off the scene in help! Any other ideas?

“Intermission Poster” seems a big vague, but I like the direction you’re going in. Maybe there’s something in Think For Yourself ?

Interesting results. Long live the awards – however they are designed. They are meant to be fun awards for the people by the people.
And well done @Little Piggy Dragonguy on the work you put into this. Deserves credit and acknowledgement.

I was having a think about this. For the new members’ award something like ‘The Rising Starr Award’ sounds cute and can encompass a lot of things quantity of users’ posts, quality blah blah. Make it open to users who have joined on or since the 1st of December 2020.
‘Most Likely…hmm” needs to be given a description as to what it means; is it thought-provoking? Confusing? That needs to be established before it can be renamed.

I like your suggestion of “The Rising Starr Award” @AppleScruffJunior. It’s a nice homage to the person that has brought so much whimsy to the forum.
I always wish there was a way to formally acknowledge the member that dominates the forum each year. There always seems to be that one member who either thanks/responds to every post they read. I guess you can tell who they are by the post count list, but it would be nice to give them a little forum hug. I’m sure (for new members) in particular that those small recognitions that someone read their post provide an incentive to keep going. I could make a list of those generous people over the years, but I think you already know who you are.

I’ve never understood the fascination over ‘thanks’ but then I’m not on social media which is plagued by liking posts. As for responding, shouldn’t it be quality over quantity (says the person who’s submitted the most posts)? God help the forum if it was filled with folk writing “thanks, great post” after every one they read. Being a mod, I’d probably delete each and every one. And then be sacked.

I’d hope that every poster (old or new, the expert who knows almost everything to the novice who doesn’t know which one is John) feels welcomed, valued and appreciated (excluding the spammers, they can go and annoy other people). If they don’t then the forum is doing something wrong. I agree that it should be displayed more often but that’s not really possible.

I like the Rising Starr Award too. Maybe for the hmmm one we can make a list of every possible thing that award could mean and then give each one a title.

Indeed, is this being run this year?
If no one else wants or has the time, and folk want to contribute/vote, I’m willing to run it this year. If someone else does, like @Starr Shine?, then it is theirs. I’m only offering as a back-up step-in.

Right.
As Santa spends all his waking and sleeping moments wondering how he is going to deliver presents all around the world whilst abiding by all the covid restrictions and rules in place, it is best to get this up and running.
@The Hole Got Fixed and I will take this on for now but if anyone wishes to take it over I am sure something can be arranged, but please note, after voting is open no changes can be made to any of the categories. It is to stop anyone taking control so to alter that which they don’t like. If changes are made, we will change them back and see what else needs to be done to keep the Awards going.
Within the next day or so, The Hole Got Fixed will post the categories and details on how to vote. Anyone is allowed to vote, whether you have been here for one minute or all year and there is no requirement to post in all categories. Obviously, the more people voting in more categories results in a more accurate reflection of how life on the forum has been over the last 12 months, so please try if you can – tho seeing as I haven’t for the last few years I have zero right to say that.

I just want to restate that, due to the removal of Beatles News as a category earlier this year in a manner I found questionable, I will not be taking any part in this year’s poll. I will not be voting and request that nobody wastes a vote on me in any category as, should any category go my way, I will be rejecting the award with a restatement of my opinion that the awards were devalued by its removal.
The removal of Beatles News as a category should not have been done at the beginning of the year but should, instead, have been closer to the launch of this year’s poll – reflecting the opinion of those currently active on the forum rather than a group of people who are now rare visitors to the forum because they prefer keep in touch with each other using Discord than being active members of this place.
The removal of Beatles News was planned by the group of Forumpudlians active on Discord, at a time not many would be looking at the poll thread, and with many of those who voted for its removal rarely seen here anymore.
I consider Beatles History and Beatles News as equally valid categories, disagreeing totally with the argument made that they are essentially the same. I consider the move was made to try and make the poll more about the social aspects of the forum rather than respecting that it’s a Beatles forum.
So, assuming those running the poll this year follow through with the removal of Beatles News as a category as “voted for” last January, when most were looking the other way, I’m afraid I’m keeping the position I held in January and will not be taking part in the poll while hoping people don’t waste votes on me.
Not sour grapes on my part, just a huge disagreement with the removal of a category that has been a part of the poll since its creation, and a category I consider an essential part of what’s important to a poll on a Beatles forum.
I regret that this will be the first poll I will not be taking part in since they were restarted but it would be hypocritical of me not to stand by my earlier objections to what was done, and more importantly how it was done.
