I don’t know, we had Susan in the very first series. She’s particularly bad in The Aztecs, with a penchant for squeals and twisted ankles. “Hey look, cartoons!” she says within the first five minutes, pointing at an Aztec frieze, “they’ve got bubbles coming out of their mouths!”. Every few companions we get a Susan, it was bound recur sooner or later.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

I saw the first series on BBC when it turned 50; she was annoying but the show wasn’t that good – it was the very beginning, few shows are.

Like I said, we get Susans down the track in later series, few companions are free from at least one of her traits, male or female. Jo Grant was one of my favourites, she wasn’t a squealer.

Taking a look at new Who spin-off, Class, set in the school where it all began.
Undecided. Obviously looking to create something similar, though more adult, to The Sarah Jane Adventures. It lacks a true Who character at its centre though.
Katherine Kelly is no Elisabeth Sladen.

^ I have episodes recorded on the telly but for some reason the 1st and 2nd didn’t record so I’ll have to find them online first then watch the rest. Haven’t got around to it yet.
It’s been a failure ratings wise for the Beeb and the fact that they put it at such a late time slot did not help it at all (it’s as if they wanted it to die). I don’t think it’ll get a 2nd series and if it does the 2nd will be its last.
I’ve watched a fair bit of Classic Who when it used to air on The Horror Channel but I never got to watch an entire Classic Who series through (will get around to it one of these days).
But in saying that, who is your favourite Classic Who companion (if you’ve watched Classic Who) and who is your favourite NuWho companion?

Capaldi is to quit as the Doctor at the end of the year.
His series legacy will be could have been amazing, was actually pretty s**t.
Of course, the BBC will hype it as some kind of state passing.

Ah scheisse I liked him, he didn’t have great stories but he was a good Doctor.
Looks like the series will have another soft reboot then, next series, as Moffat is leaving as well. So I imagine Companion Bill is only lasting a series as well. They can have the whole thing cleared out for Chibnall, like with what happened with 10 and Davies.

Don’t see why that would be so (companion Bill), @AppleScruffJunior. I can’t think of any instance in DW history where Doctor and any companions he has have gone at exactly the same time. I expect companion Bill will be the bridge between Calpaldi and whoever comes next.

I don’t know if they’ll go at the same time (his last episode is the Christmas special, could well be Bill* leaves in the series’ finale, like Martha she might decide that it’d be better for her own good if she didn’t stick around with him, or calamity could strike whatever) but it’s been floating around the rumour mill for the past month or so that she’d be a one series companion (also that Capaldi was seriously thinking of leaving).
Until we see Series 10 I have no idea if I’ll like Bill as a character (although judging by the series’ trailer, I don’t think so, prove me wrong Pearl Mackie, prove me wrong!).
What I was coming from about both new Doctor and new companion was in Tennant’s case, he had no companion at the time and regenerated alone, thus giving the series a face lift so to speak as they weren’t carrying any baggage from previous seasons.
But we’ll have to wait and see!
*We also have companion Nardole as well and I think he’s really annoying (like I said I fell asleep during the Christmas special and still haven’t watched the last 1/2 hour of it partially thanks to him). So he might leave midway or leave with Bill but I don’t know, this is all just guesswork.

I slept really badly last night (I blame Monday morning college anxiety). I woke up at 3, 4, 5:30, and then finally when my alarm went at 7:30.
Why is this related to Doctor Who?
Well, my alarm clock is a TARDIS (great little gadget I love it)*, and it makes the sounds the TARDIS makes as its alarm.
I was so delirious that I’m 98% certain the first words I said when I woke up was “Doctor????” as the TARDIS lights flicked on and off and I heard the loud whoo-ing sounds.
I can’t lie and say I wasn’t a big disappointed that it actually wasn’t The Doctor but yeah know…such is life.

Capaldi was a great Doctor, but boy did the stories let him down. There were glimpses here and there, but there seems to be a commercial imperative to follow a certain line as fantasy scifi guy for a female audience and it’s a lot less interesting to me. It’s like a permanent season of Martha companions.

Tennant is on BBC Radio 4 at 7:15 this evening i.e about 8 minutes from now. He’s promoting Broadchurch and is going to talk about Doctor Who as well apparently, just FYI

Probably be asked about Capaldi leaving and who he would like to see replace him. Expect a dull joke about Tennant returning to be thrown in.

I can report back, he was asked about Chibnall instead of Capaldi. He said “he didn’t want to make headlines” as regards the next Doctor so he didn’t say who he would prefer just that he doesn’t care whether it’s a guy or gal so long as they are the best suited for the job.
Also no returning jokes, I love Tennant as The Doctor but I agree with him that the most he should go near Doctor Who in the future is anniversary episodes, and he did say he might do the 60th when it comes ’round.

Chris Chibnall he wrote Broadchurch and did a good few Torchwood episodes. He’s replacing Steven Moffat* at the end of this year as the new Doctor Who showrunner.
*And many fans rejoiced.

Oh yeah. I remember reading that Broadchurch III was his last before moving to Doctor Who.
Everyone who has watched a Moffat episode of Doctor Who over the last few years should be delighted he’s off. It’s bizarre how bad it’s gotten with him at the helm considering some of the earlier episodes he wrote.

Also as an aside, I wonder will they bring back Susan this series and have the Doctor visit her. Capaldi always said in interviews if he could go anywhere it would be to visit his granddaughter, so will they indulge him next series?
