Speaking of companions, I’m a Donna fan too. But I’m also a classic Who fan and I always liked Tegan, Turlough, Leela and Romana. All the sassy talking-back ones!

The Horror Channel is added to Freeview today (channel 70). Not a big horror fan, but daily classic Doctor Who. Yay! Used to love it when UK Gold would show it. Now somewhere else to get it.

I’m seriously hoping Clara is truly dead and there is no resurrection over the next couple of weeks where she lives happily ever after. Keep her dead and let the Doctor become seriously pissed off and go and destroy a few planets and civilisations so we can get away from all the sentimental heart-string plucking bullshit we had to get used to throughout the Matt Smith era (everybody is superduper special and unique individuals who can achieve greatness, bring world peace and do everything if they believe in their hearts they can).
If I ever see another young girl sing to save a planet I will sue the BBC and campaign for it to be closed down. Am still raging from that s**t and I only ever saw the episode once – not too long later (2 or 3 episodes) I gave up on the show whilst Matt Smith was there. Thankfully considering what I’ve heard since.

Well said MMM, I was appalled at the Clara death scene anyway. Watched Brain of Morbius yesterday and mourned for the old non-wussy Doctor who was too busy to mind a blind companion who managed for herself.

Welp I’m annoyed at Doctor Who again after the season finale. Now Clara can exist with Me doing something moronic which the Doctor will surely have to fix just as soon as he remembers who she is.

It was a nonsense. We now have the idiotic situation where no assistant is going to die as the Doctor will find a way to rescue him/her. The conclusion had great promise yet it turned into sentimental mush – again.
Capaldi is a great actor, shame the plot writers are average and have no guts to do anything that might make waves – The Doctor wins, everybody good lives.
And the Christmas special looks dire.

It seems Who is caught in a sensationalist trap where all manner of continuity can be jettisoned. I don’t mind that a Who fan has a take on the Who universe, but when that fan gives into his escapist fantasies its like a fanfic version of Who instead, and it contracts the imagination instead of expanding it.

Just to pump some life back into this thread again:
Teaser/behind the scenes for the Christmas Special (oh how exciting)
Also a little teaser for the new animated Second Doctor serial ‘The Power of the Daleks’- mighty fun stuff.
W are airing Nine’s (they finished last week, pity I love Eccleston reminds me of my wacky German lecturer) and 11’s episodes (they started with Clara then stopped 1/4 way through and have now gone back to Amy….no I have no clue what’s going on either).
No channel is airing Classic Who atm as far as I know, which is a pity.
Also the new companion looks to be another modern day girl from London (oh how exciting and unique…oh wait, no it isn’t)
*goes back to watching Tom Baker*

I never bothered with last year’s Christmas Special and won’t with the new series as it looks like its aimed at 13 year olds with a new companion who is a right annoying brat (but she’s sassy and streetwise so its actually cool ). I like Capaldi as the Doctor but the storylines are garbage with about as much mystery and excitement as an episode of ‘Spot The Dog’.
They have a fantastic actor who could do so much more yet we are stuck with awful enemies that are less threatening than a plate of cakes are to Mr Greedy when he is particularly hungry and storylines that could have been written by a bored toad.

Did you watch “Heaven Sent”? One of the best episodes of television I’ve ever seen.

I haven’t watched season 10 yet, and I’m currently half way through season 4 of the classic series. One just died and regenerated into Two. I’ve only watches 2 stories with Two so far.

And nice to see you here and about @ivejustseenafceo.
Glad to be back around, thanks.
Heaven Sent was the second to last episode of the most recent series, where he’s trapped on the island thingy. It’s really excellent.

I fell asleep halfway through the Christmas episode- have no idea how it ended…don’t really care either. I love Capaldi but Jesus he is given some crap episodes, can’t wait for Moffat to be gone!

Have said a few times it’s become dire. Capaldi could have been one of the best Doctor’s but the writing and plotlines have been so foreseeable, formulaic and boring I now don’t bother with it. The new assistant has also put me off even before seeing her.

^ Yeah she looks like she might be awful annoying just asking questions over and over again (it’s realistic but still you don’t really watch Doctor Who for realism, do you?), although I do love the Wilhelm scream at 0:32
Rumour has it she’s only going to be in the one season but I don’t know.

It appears to me that they have decided that the desired target audience are teens hence a year old assistant but she has to be sassy, bold, independent and basically in need of bed with no supper a few times. And where are her parents, shouldn’t they be searching for her and calling the police?
It’s so far removed from when I really liked it.
