I was a HUGE doctor who fan until Capaldi came along. Maybe it was the writing taking a turn for the worse, but I found myself burying my head in embarrassment every second line.
Im not sure how I feel about a possible change to a female Doctor. In the past the Doctor – companion relationship has been a male doctor and a female companion, with the knowledgable doctor usually saving the companion. Call me old fashioned, but you would have to find two very good actors to successfully portray a strong woman saving a weak man without it coming across as gimmicky or pandering to the SJW crowd. If they find good enough actors, then sure, but if not, just keep it the way it is.
I also think a gender switch would come across as very forced, given how forced the lesbian Bill’s character was.

Ah, not so true:
Granted, The Doctor has nearly always had a female companion with him but it gets stagnant having only The Doctor and a girl in the TARDIS (just look at 10 and Rose), a male companion normally revitalises The Doctor’s run (11 and Rory).
The only stipulation I have for a Doctor is that (s)he has to be British (or at least have a 100% convincing either N. Ireland, Welsh, Scottish, or English accent). No Americans!

You know that they could make the next Doctor a lesbian so instead of a female doctor saving a male companion it’s a female doctor saving a female companion and to be honest, i wouldn’t be surprised if they picked the female that they choose to make her lesbian.

Well any male companions usually shared the TARDIS with a woman as well.

And the 13th Doctor is…
Jodie Whittaker.
A good choice in my opinion. With Chris Chibnall taking over the helm for the next series, and rumours that he’s bringing a new approach, the fact that he and Whittaker worked together on Broadchurch means they know each other well, which should be an advantage.
EDIT:
The trailer which unveils her:
In a statement she has said:
It’s more than an honor to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.

Can’t say it’s a surprise.. I’ve been expecting this one for years, especially with the falling ratings with Capaldi. I’ve heard she’s a good actress though, so I’m hopeful.

Capaldi is a good actor, the storylines were overall dreadful.
As for who the Doctor is; who gives a crap whether it’s male or female, homosexual, straight or bi. Folk jump up and down because it’s a female or because it’s not a male (either happy or sad at the revelation) and will come with huge stories of how incredible and important it is. I’m of the opinion that as long as the part is given to be best person for the role then we shouldn’t don’t give a crap who it is.
Capaldi was let down by appalling writers, not because he was male.

Personally, i could care less who they have as the new doctor, even if they picked a 12 year old Frenchman who has a baby seal for a sidekick and instead of killing his enemies, he shows them the seal and convinces them to love one another because you’d have to be pretty sick to kill an animal as cute as a baby seal.
But if they choose not to, then the seal bites their head off.
The reason why i couldn’t care less what comes of the series is for 2 reasons:
1. I don’t watch Doctor Who
2. There’s so many classic episodes from the 1960’s and 70’s that I’m guessing are better than the newer ones. For example, I’m guessing that most Doctor Who fans would consider The War Machines from 1966 to be a superior serial to The Girl Who Died from 2015 in the same way that us fans of The Simpsons would consider Bart Gets An F from season 2 to be a superior episode to The Bob Next Door from season 21 so i say Doctor Who’s been on for over 50 years. If you have a problem with a girl doctor being on this old and not as good as it used to be show, then go watch a serial from 1968 that uses the second doctor, it should be a lot better.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

I agree with you guys. My condition wasn’t that it should always be male, it was that it should be a good actor. Though I haven’t really watched it in a couple of years so I won’t be sticking round after the first two episodes anyways. There’s some ridiculous complaints about it though – one person on my facebook reckons ‘men are being discriminated against’.

For her own sake, I hope she becomes a really successful Doctor. It would be horrific to know you were the person who tanked a series that’s been running since 2005 in its second incarnation.

I hope the writers don’t spend every episode reminding the viewers it is a woman they are watching and “ok look she is strong and confident and determined!” in a deeply patronising and condescending manner whilst patting themselves on the back for being so clever for such brave casting.

Yeah exactly, if at her regeneration she’d say “oh wow, this is different” and that’d be it, then it’d be completely fine but if they have every episode her complaining about some woman problem and how she now needs a sport bra to run down corridors it would get old very quick.

And I’m finally finished my rewatched. I started August 2016, finished August 2017- very fitting.
I think my rankings have actually changed for my favourite NuWho Doctor in that I think I prefer Capaldi over Tennant now . I’m going rewatching all of them starting from September along with all the commentaries and extras that I didn’t look at on my first full rewatch (I’ll have them playing on my telly while I’m doing study, I’m not physically going sitting down again to watch them all).
Eccleston is still No. 1 though

I stopped watching Doctor Who a while back ’cause I reckoned the stories got worse as the show switched writers. Though I hung in there until mid – series 9 before I gave up. I’m thinking of picking it up again though because I’m quite curious about the new Doctor and figure I’ll have to catch up now.

Series 8 was pretty bad, probably the worst series the show has ever had in the new era. I quite enjoy Series 9, the only episodes that aren’t good are ‘Sleep No More’ and ‘The Zygon Invasion/Inversion’ but Jenna’s acting more than makes up for the boringness in the latter. It’s definitely one of my favourite series of the show (along with 1, 3, and 4).
Series 10 again was a decent series every episode was ‘alright’. I’d probably rank it as a 7.5/10 overall. The last two episodes were particularly good, and Bill was an overall enjoyable companion although she could have done with a bit more development. What I miss the most from Russell T. Davies’ era is that you got to know the companions really well, you met their families, where they lived, and the effect travelling with The Doctor had on their loved-ones. Whereas with Amy and Clara I felt pretty detached to them, and didn’t care as much about what happened to them as I did with Rose or Donna.

I turned off during the Matt Smith era, the big push being when some annoying brat sang and saved the universe. The stories were becoming more frequent in their sentimental all things are possible if you believe as you are an extra super duper special person.

That’s Clara, especially during Smith’s last series she was terrible. Devoid of personality and everything revolved around her because she was ‘The Impossible Girl’. She redeems herself slightly at the end of Series 8 and during Series 9 but I dislike her as a companion, she’s needy and possessive of The Doctor, whilst almost thinking she’s better than him and can outwit him which no Clara love, you can’t.
