Thanks @sigh butterfly ! I must admit, I’d never heard of Gilbert O’Sullivan… One of my other bandmates suggested we do Alone Again (Naturally)!
Because we are mainly a studio band*, and we recorded mostly at school, it’s going to be much harder to do anything now we’re not at school. We might still get to do a few more though. Performing live is something that if we really wanted to, we’d be able to – Melbourne has quite a good live music scene
*we did perform live once, though. Here’s a picture for you (though the bass guitarist is the keyboard player’s brother (he’s not actually in our band, I overdub the bass parts on the recordings) and there’s no photo with the other band member, playing the keytar):

Hopefully you can pursue it Holey, you guys have a cool look and can create a setlist to match the venue (since you cover such a wide variety of musical genres).

I realize that it’s not just your call when you are in a band. Sometimes the talent and desire becomes secondary to everyone’s life choices and challenges.

What with coronavirus and self-isolation I’ve finally had time to remember to release the single I’ve been meaning to release for the last month or two…
https://angusraiskums.bandcamp…..-at-school
Technically nowhere does it say double A-side or A-side/B-side, so let me know which one you’d go with

By the way, we have started some work on an album – including a Beatles song, so that might be done by 2027 – who knows?

Haven’t listened to ‘Stuck in School’ yet, but really enjoyed the A-side! It’s very satisfying harmonically with that almost bluesy chord progression, and the guitar playing is excellent (reminded me a lot of Old Brown Shoe ). The lyrics are definitely very relatable too, and I found myself chuckling at the rhyme schemes. I like it a lot – a very deadpan sense of humour.

The instrumentals and production are incredible, @The Hole Got Fixed ! Both songs sound so professional.

I agree, I don’t think I’ve related to a song more.

Woow @The Hole Got Fixed that is so impressive!! I didn’t know you made original music! I love how Beatlesque it sounds. But it is still quite in touch with modern production and it’s original as well! It’s not the type of music I usually listen to but I love how professional it sounds, you should be really proud. Some of us only wish we could do the stuff you do.
Also, this is not original music, but I published on Vimeo a mashup of two Led Zeppelin songs (YouTube wouldn’t let me for obvious reasons). If there’s any LZ fans, listen to this medley-ish composed of In My Time of Dying and In the Light (I discovered they’re both on the same key)

@The Hole Got Fixed I don’t say this lightly because I’m a big fan of a lot of your earlier stuff, but this is the best music i’ve heard from you. It is really tight! The songwriting, the playing, the production is all there. And I can tell you’re starting to get more confident as a vocalist. It sounds great!

Excellent songs, Holey! Love the choice of song themes. I’m probably the only one who thinks this, but the “yeahs” in Stuck In School kinda sound like a Linda part on a Wings song, which is cool.

Thanks all, I’m glad you enjoyed them. I’m a little surprised no one picked what song gave me musical inspiration for Something To Do – Long, Long, Long .

The chord progression was one of those moments where you start playing and realise it’s worth making it into a song… good to hear I’m not the only one who thinks that way. The lyrics are basically a chronicle of my life – and right now, a chronicle of everyone’s life!

My mixing skills keep coming along – Funnily enough, I mixed Stuck at School in October or November last year, and just before I clicked ‘publish’ I decided I needed to tweak the mix again… turns out that was a good decision

Yeah I make music – there’s another album of stuff on my bandcamp, and my band’s last two albums aren’t bad (our early ones are a bit of a tough listen). It’s what I want modern music to be – having the benefit of hi-tech recording equipment and as many tracks as you do or don’t want, but real music played in a style from an older generation. I’m definitely very proud of it, they’re two of my best tracks – and I’m very lucky to be able to make it at all.
(Love the LZ mashup by the way!)

Wow, I know that you like my old stuff and for you to say that means I’ve done something right. In the last 6 months or so something has changed when I sing, dunno what. But it’s changed for the better

Huh… never noticed that before but now you point that out, I see what you mean. That is quite cool! *Linda smiley*

Well, to contribute, here is a mix of a cover of Electrolite by R.E.M. played by me and a certain @The Hole Got Fixed on drums:
https://ewe2.ninja/mp3/electro…..e-mix8.mp3
I will get around to a bandcamp when I have some more original stuff, I’m in the process of gathering gear still for that. This is one of the first things I mixed in my new DAW called Reaper which is a fantastic tool that I’m learning and has many advantages over just using Audacity.

Inspired by all the recent postings I’ve decided to make a soundcloud account and post some of my demos.
Here’s a little EP I made called ‘Ramblings’:
https://soundcloud.com/j-coltr…..772/albums
‘Regrets’ is basically a standard rock song from about 2 years ago, with terrible lyrics I came up with right before recording them.
‘Song to Björk’ is a Talking Heads inspired instrumental with lyrics I adapted from Caliban’s speech in Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
‘St Lucy’s Day’ is a random electronic instrumental I made when I was messing around with Logic.
‘Sun City’ is another standard rock song. Please excuse the very quiet vocals on this, the song isn’t really in my ideal range but I like the instrumental so I included it anyway.
And here’s another song I wrote and recorded this morning called ‘Driftwood’. It’s an indie folk style song about the coronavirus.

Wow, definitely make “Stuck in School” the A-side, Holey, it’s super! I’m always susceptible to that kind of discoish octave-bass playing, and your lead guitar bits are really well thought out (or improvised?) Also I agree with SWR regarding your singing. You have a very unaffected, natural voice, it sounds very much like your spoken voice, I imagine.
Anyways, sounds like a Top 5 smash hit single for sure, at least in some other universe. This record ‘slaps’, it is ‘a bop’, and all the other pimply hyperboles. A great job as usual, turn it up! (Wrong thread)
Now onto new offerings from ewe2 and qman…
