Personally I can do lyrics if I have a specific topic to write about, but I’m definitely in the ‘the music is the fun part’ camp

he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Nice work Holey! I got around to listening to the first half and it sounds really great. The instrumentation and harmonies all sound as good as anything I’ve heard from you. Never knew you were that good of a keyboard player. You should be really proud of putting out a collection of songs like that by yourself.

I’m the first to admit I’m rarely in tune even 80% of the time lol – brilliant is definitely not a word I’d use to describe my singing, but I’m glad the texture works.
As long as you’re in tune with everything else, that’s all that matters. 440Hz is arbitrary and some artists like Bon Scott era AC/DC, Pantera, and Van Halen intentionally tune a quarter step down. And when it comes to unintentionally being tuned sharp or flat, many of the greats, including The Beatles, are guilty of that.

Forumpudlians, a plea:
I recently sent The Hole Got Fixed a selection of lyrics, with the agreement that he would add music to them, mirroring how Bernie Taupin and Elton John have collaborated since the late 60s.
I was wondering if any other talented musicians fancied having a go at collaborating in the same manner? If you are, perhaps you can send a private message stating your intentions.
A few notes:
I generally have an idea for a melody when I write the lyrics, though some are often written as poems so the melody can often be an afterthought to.
I’m happy for you to rearrange/modify the lyrical content to fit the arrangement you come up with, providing the context remains the same. I believe James Dean Bradfield would do this with Richey Edwards’ lyrics should the album notes of Journal For Plague Lovers be used as evidence.
I look forward to working with you.

I’ve just listened to your two tracks @ThatWeirdBeatlesGirl – both very good in their own way, though I thought Windowsill was slightly off-tempo sometimes. Opening was a complete revelation though, I loved the bass/drum rhythm throughout it.

Only just got around to listening now – that’s some really good stuff there. Fantastic grooves there, both of them – I was digging them both, and yeah there were a few small timing issues but when I’m digging a groove I don’t care that much! Would love to hear more

I did a Smiths cover here. Took me a few mixes but I’m happy with the result.
If you’re interested, I also have a collection of instrumentals at https://beta.lbry.tv/@ewe2#f Its a new content platform, designed to be self-sustaining on a bitcoin currency.

Let Me Get What I Want is great, a lovely feel that I can’t quite describe – almost ethereal, but that’s not quite it… my crappy English aside, definitely a good job there!

I love your avatar on the website!
Are the instrumentals all original? They sound pretty damn good! When I get a chance, I need to listen to the rest of them – they’ll probably be fantastic for the last month of study before I finish school.
Some really great riffs and ideas there, and they’re all executed really well too. The layering is also a highlight for me. (and of course the production is on point too – but that’s kind of a given, penguins are always great at doing mixes!

Thanks! It’s a combination of a couple of things I was trying. I really like the sound of the original but wanted to play with my pedals so the guitar is laden with delay and reverb goodness from my obscura and polara pedals, and the bass is a combination of a dry track and a chorus (behringer uc300) slightly panned to the side, really going all-out 80’s here! The vocals is also a combination of a dry track centered and a panned reverb/delay track so you here the repeats off to the side which sounds really nice. I did quite a bit of rerecording of tracks in the end, I’ve finally learnt my lesson about recording digital tracks below -12dB.

that’s literally a picture I took of my tux penguin and filled in the black behind it. My preferred avatar!
Yeah quite a few of them have never seen the light of day before now, my old workflow was recording tracks to midi in an old version of Cakewalk (in XP!), and then tortuously rendering them using linux Timidity++ and configuring the patches by hand. Very unlikely that I’ll ever do that again. I have re-rendered a couple from midi to FL Studio, but most of those are relatively failed experiments, so when I joined LBRY I thought it was a good opportunity to let out some midis. It’s a little weird to listen back to these and realize I was doing synthwave before I’d ever heard of it.

That’s the fun part for me, its a bit iterative because that changes how I see the material so I change the material and that changes the next mix etc etc it’s a wonder I finish anything at all! (I never consider them finished).

My first attempt at a classical piece, mach meaning a combination of mach (really fast, only took me a couple of hours to complete this short piece) and mock (fake, i have no classical training and can only read sheet music at an elementary school level).
Written for 2 violins, viola, cello, piano, and drums (bass/snare).

Sounds pretty cool! Quite a creepy gothic atmosphere to it, it’d sound cool with an organ or something. I’d lose the snare though, it’s not adding much.

Agreed with Q-man above. Instead of snare I could see a boomy bass drum with plenty of reverb instead.

While you may be familiar with the A side, a cover of Sgt. Pepper me and Holey did in late 2017, the B side is a jazz cover of The So Long Song from Blues Clues. I recorded it using my Fender Stratocaster’s neck pickup with the tone rolled down to make it sound a bit like an organ. Unfortunately, it sounds like an old DOS game from the early 90’s but i still think it turned out pretty well.

My band has finally released what is likely to be our last album, Black Cloud.
Almost 14 months in the making, hopefully the time spent is reflected in the final product!
Enjoy! https://schwarzewolke.bandcamp…..lack-cloud
(there ain’t any Beatles covers but there is a George Harrison cover)

Very nice!!
If I had to pick my two favourites, they’d be Sleep the Sun Away and Sertraline.
But really, some really good music there. Good job!

@The Hole Got Fixed – great stuff, quite an eclectic mix! I didn’t know that anyone even remembered who Gilbert O’Sullivan was. My favorites are Mr. Blue Sky (kind of song I like to dance to), Am I Ever Going To See Your Face Again, and Tangible Feelings (I listen to lots of piano driven sounds). How come you guys are breaking up-no club scene in your town? Also have you already posted a picture of the band (you guys have a cool band vibe)?
