The song was supposed to end somewhat chaotically, but got out of hand!
Very out of hand, especially for the 2nd chorus.

Well, considering I’m the only person who can actually play guitar in our group, and I was busy on drums, and we didn’t want any overdubs, that meant no guitar. Which is fine, really, as not all bands have to have a guitar. And yes, the two acoustic guitar parts were played by someone who can’t play guitar, which was part of the joke. Well, consider this: Half the songs were recorded from one microphone, and the other half were recorded from two microphones, so I tried my hardest to try reduce the volume of the drums, but it was very, very hard. The only two true ‘original’ songs were Imaginary Realism and Latino… But I didn’t have much of a say in either, as they were essentially jams.
Wait a minute, you’ve been recording this with 1-2 microphones, so it’s essentially a 2 track recording, like The Beatles early works. Where do you record anyways because if you record at home or a friends house, you could use Audacity and can give each track it’s separate channel so you can mix the vocals, guitar, bass, drums, piano, etc. separately.

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoy it! I agree, the album is a bit flawed, but that’s part of what we were aiming for (‘I was looking at the people in the other room, hoping they would look at us wondering what the hell was going on’ – lead singer on Video Killed The Radio Star)
A very interesting thing to go for at that, i hope next album isn’t aiming for that.
The Hole Got Fixed said
Well, I disagree. It was an album that shows what we were trying to achieve perfectly. You won’t hear any of those songs on our new album, we wanted to do lots of new songs.
I guess it’s more like Eminem’s Infinite or Katy Perry’s Katy Hudson where it’s on the line between a demo and a debut album.

Do you really need to call Deceitful Winter a ‘demo’ instead of an album? It sounded a bit derogatorily to me but maybe that’s also one big misunderstanding.
I’m not calling it bad by calling it a demo, it just sounds a lot like a demo to me because of the unpolished sound, no overdubs, and some songs were recorded with only 1 track.

Yes, great idea (regarding uploading videos to YouTube)! (except we don’t own copyright…)
You don’t need to have copyright to do so. In fact, lacking copyright makes it easier to upload videos to YouTube.
The Hole Got Fixed said
We don’t always use take 1, in fact, for our cover of Here Comes The Sun on our next album, we took 16 takes. Though about 6 songs on Deceitful Winter were done on the first take.
Alright, i was hoping for a Beatles cover.
The Hole Got Fixed said
But only 3 were true originals, the other 2 were parodies. On our new album, that number will go down, unfortunately, I agree with you, but my band mates don’t.
That’s sad to hear, i liked the original songs quite a bit.
The Hole Got Fixed said
Can’t help it for most songs – One track or two tracks is very hard to mix, and you can only make the drums a little bit quieter.
Like i said earlier, you should try to give each instrument it’s own track but if you can’t, you could place the drums away from the rest of the instruments and give them their own mic.
The Hole Got Fixed said
We have achieved this already in our next album.-a sax solo during an outro
-bongos for one song
-electric guitar
-(hopefully…) a song with trumpet, french horn and tenor sax
That’s great to hear and i’m glad that you decided to use overdubs.
The Hole Got Fixed said
Thanks again for the review!
I’m glad you liked it.

sir walter raleigh, I love it! It’s got a really, really nice groove, and it has been mixed really well. It’s a very crisp sound, and I actually quite enjoyed the off-centre vocals. Also, the lyrical content is simply a masterpiece!
I liked it myself although i wish the vocals were centered.

Great idea for a topic. I really do hope to see some more people posting links to some music they have made.
I said in the other thread that I am in the very early stages of recording some music and the plan is to upload them on the internet. I am just at the planning stages at this point but I hope to start recording soon and hope to have something online by the end of the year or maybe early next year.

Yep, that’s correct. We record at one of the music rooms at school. So it’s rather hard, and not everyone is available all the time.
A very interesting thing to go for at that, i hope next album isn’t aiming for that.
A few tracks did, a few tracks didn’t.

Oh ok, thanks for the tip! I might raise that suggestion with my bandmates!
Alright, i was hoping for a Beatles cover.
Also, Twist And Shout , and Eleanor Rigby (and a parody of With A Little Help From My Friends )
That’s sad to hear, i liked the original songs quite a bit.
Yay! Well, hopefully you like what we’ve got on our next album!
Like i said earlier, you should try to give each instrument it’s own track but if you can’t, you could place the drums away from the rest of the instruments and give them their own mic.
The music room we play in is about 10 square metres, and the drums are essentially stuck to the ground (we get in trouble if we move them around room). So it’s kind of unavoidable… unless we overdub LITERALLY everything.
That’s great to hear and i’m glad that you decided to use overdubs.
We will see if we like using overdubs, who knows, we might go back to no overdubs!

Very interesting, i would’ve never expected that you recorded your album at school as that’s a very unusual place to record although a good one because they have a decent amount of equipment. It explains quite a lot though.
Also, i’m really looking forwards to the covers of Twist And Shout , Eleanor Rigby , and Here Comes The Sun , not as much the parody though although i like how you used 1 John song, 1 Paul, 1 George, and 1 Ringo, was that planned or a coincidence.
By the way, you don’t have to overdub everything to get the drums in isolation, just overdub the drums like Paul had Ringo do for Why Don’t We Do It In The Road.

There’s acoustic on two songs.
Electric on 7 songs.
Bass on 8 songs.
Though we still have a few more songs to go.
Don’t ask me about models. I think they’re generic.
Though this model of bass was used on most (if not all) songs.
I’ve documented everything so far, and in great detail, but I’ve left that detail out, because for the most part I simply don’t know.

Is there both electric and acoustic on your cover of Here Comes The Sun or just acoustic, i’m curious because George uses an electric guitar sparingly on the version on Abbey Road .

My headphones are a bit dodgy at the moment, but I’ll try my best to listen!
EDIT: Just skimmed through the album with only the right earphone working and I have to say, a huge improvement from the last album! Yet again, I found the least likely tracks (Gymnopédie No. 1 and Medic) my favourites. Pretty professional sounding cover of Here Comes The Sun , as were Eleanor Rigby and Twist And Shout ! I will probably listen to the album in its entirety when I get a better pair of headphones, but for now, keep up the good work!

Congratulations on the great achievement!
I particularly like the Beatles covers, they’re, on the one hand, all very professional but on the other hand, they’ve all got an individual component, that’s quite cool! (My favourite among the covers was probably, Eleanor Rigby , an awesome interpretation that was. But Hellhole Riga is close! The drum solo in this track sounds great and the lyrics made me crack up!) But I agree with SgtPepper’sBulldog, the instrumentals are also very nice, especially Medic, Klezmer Karnival, and Century’s Light.
But my absolute favourite song is To Do List (no, not only because there was a tenor saxophone), this one’s so damn catchy, I had it stuck in my head ALL DAY LONG (and still now)! Nice work, definitely keep it up!

Thank you both very much for listening!
I’m very happy to know that some of the ‘album tracks’ (a la You Won’t See Me , Another Girl sort of songs) are found to be great. Yay Beatles covers! Next album will have Hey Bulldog on it.
And to know that the song I wrote for the band has been critically praised!
For both of you!

HEEEY BULLDAWG!!!! Can’t wait!
I thought I should mention that I’ve been partially inspired by both @The Hole Got Fixed and @Beatlebug to start my own musical projects. I’ve toying around with a multi track app for the last few days, recording myself playing guitar and keyboard and merging and editing them afterwards. I’ve made two twenty second odd intros to two separate projects so far. I’m hoping to finish at least one before the end of the summer holidays so I can post it on my SoundCloud account, then repost it either here or in my arts thread.

All this talk about Forumpudlians making music makes me want to revive the Beatles Bible band thread. I think @ewe2 did a bassline for WALHFMF, is anyone else interested in this?

An issue would be different software usage, but then again if you’ve gotten around that before..
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.
