That’s so cool! I really dig its resemblance to something like Wendy Carlos’ original Tron soundtrack, very brainy and retro. Some bits even have an Ocarina of Time sort of pace, take that as a high compliment. Excellent work man.

To keep the Beatles fans happy, there’s a Beatles cover on there, but I don’t think there are any here?

I released my first music video to my first single Midwest, which is both on my first album Zero Progress and in the film MOIRA (but not on the soundtrack).
I mixed desaturated footage of our singer singing the song with footage from the 1939 animated color film Gulliver’s Travels, which is in the public domain, as well as a desaturated clip of him recording the drums for another song and 2 desaturated clips of me playing guitar.

What a delightful little collection of covers! Nicely recorded too, very professionally mastered. I do have one suggestion though, just as a professional courtesy even if you aren’t making a buck off them, do include information about the original composer(s) in your upload metadata. If nothing else, it might lead someone to discover the original artist. Never assume everyone knows who wrote the song!

@The Hole Got Fixed Yes, “It’s on America’s tortured brow“.
I have more comments, but couldn’t let the weekend go by without giving a shout-out to your version of Life On Mars. Your interpretation and accompaniment is spot on. I never thought about that song in the framework of pandemic life, but I do now. The arrangement manages to be simple and grandiose at the same time. Without objection, I nominate this for your entry in the forum Battle of the Bands!

I guess you can tell I really like it. Needs to find a place on your first CD (maybe the closer depending on the overall vibe) . Even though it hasn’t appeared on the forum yet, Yeehaw Boogaloo is a blast.

Just came around to checking some of this stuff and on a simple evening I enjoyed it quite a lot. Being mostly covers of songs I recognize, there wasn’t a lot of room for failure, and I feel like it makes me know you better, give your music and Beatlebug’s seems to be the most expressive. I like your voice (I believe it is yours right?). The first time I listened to the singing on your music I was put off by the fact it isn’t that polished, but I’m growing on the fact that you (or whoever) own up to it more and more, especially during the cover of Jump, which is one of the best on here.
Then on, I loved the Bowie picks for opening and closing, it really fits your band’s aesthetic. Also “Rush”, what is that? I couldn’t find it online, so if it’s an original composition, it’s fantastic! Otherwise it’s a great cover of it.
And for the constructive part, the worst aspect of this album is the timing. You really have to talk to whoever’s the drummer because she/he’s messing up a lot of the tempo on these songs. It particularly made something like Blame It on the Boogie quite clunky. And that’s a very funky tune so rhythm is an essential part of it. I could attribute this problem to anyone on the band but in my experience when there are tempo issues is usually the drummer’s job to back the band up, and here there’s a lack of that.
Other than that, don’t stop! The song selection is quite good and diverse and it feels like you guys are having fun constantly. The Mythbusters Theme was a nice touch, as well as Everybody’s Got the Right, nice deep cuts. Excellent work!!
Also @Beatlebug AWW Your playing is beautiful! I’ll keep the faith (wasn’t there an MJ song called like that?)

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it! The songs I sang lead on, fyi, were:
We certainly own up to the fact it isn’t polished – we try to make it a feature, without it being to prominent that it detracts.
Then on, I loved the Bowie picks for opening and closing, it really fits your band’s aesthetic. Also “Rush”, what is that? I couldn’t find it online, so if it’s an original composition, it’s fantastic! Otherwise it’s a great cover of it.
Thanks! “Rush” is a piece by an Australian composer that my and my bandmates studied in our Music Composition class. Here’s a performance of it, as scored by Hindson:

I shall have a chat with myself!
In all seriousness, I don’t disagree entirely. I hadn’t done any drumming in over a year, because I didn’t have a drumkit I could access. Although part of the problem was that the drums were almost the last instrument recorded on all of the songs (bar Changes), so that throws the feel a bit.
(although fwiw a brief look at the multitracks again reveals it isn’t always the drums’ problem, each instrument occasionally drifts in and out of time, but that’s besides the point)
Other than that, don’t stop! The song selection is quite good and diverse and it feels like you guys are having fun constantly. The Mythbusters Theme was a nice touch, as well as Everybody’s Got the Right, nice deep cuts. Excellent work!!
Thanks, we don’t intend to stop! Glad you liked those deep cuts, they make the album imo.

I finally got around to listening to it and it’s pretty good, i especially loved the harmonies. However, i really wish you did more originals, as all but 3 songs are covers and all but 2 of those covers are at least somewhat well known. Also, i was disappointed with how the Jump solo was replaced with something much more simpler.

No, I was looking at the metadata on the actual files which is a more logical place to find it, people are more likely to download the album and look for details there rather than click through the website list. For instance my originals have ISRC numbers embedded in them and I keep my own list as well as provide them to APRA (australian performers royalties association).

I’ve done a couple of covers for my guitar discord challenges, for February and the Valentines challenge I did a reggae cover of Sisters of Mercy by Leonard Cohen and for this month’s Traditional Song challenge I got in early and did Scarborough Fair (tradtional) employing my tin whistle for the first time (and a lot of reverb!).

Sorry I’ve only just got around to this now ewe2 – been a crazy busy few weeks.
Great stuff! Particularly loved Scarborough Fair – great production, I thought there was too much reverb at the start but by the end of it you’d converted me
Brought a smile to my face when you had to switch to head voice for those high notes, a very penguin-esque charm
