He was releasing his first release under the name ‘Davie Jones and the King Bees’ (utterly horrible name) and defending his hairdo when he was just 17, and you know what I mean.

Listening to Low for the first time… I think my mind is blown.
This album is going to become standard writing-about-Mars soundtrack fare, I think…

Oh man, you are lucky. Amazing album.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I can’t get enough of David Bowie
He’s inhumanly charismatic — entirely apart from my considerable appreciation of his music, I can’t seem to get tired of looking at him, he’s just so impossibly harmonious to the eyes

I thought you might…
For me it’s just a pure aesthetic attraction, where I look at him and think, ‘I could stare for a thousand years…’
And I’ve been putting out fire
With gasoLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE
(Good song)

I heard Low before I had any idea about Brian Eno’s involvement, my first band covered Breaking Glass. I also heard 801 around the same time and it STILL didn’t sink in about Eno! It wasn’t until the late 80’s when I rampaged through a friends record collection that I had the big AHA moment. Low is still probably my favourite of the Trilogy, the second side (this was before CD’s) was one of the most daring things Bowie did. You’re a major pop idol and you team up with some weirdo ambient guy and devote half an album to that?! To make matters worse, you start and end the first side with instrumentals! Most uncharacteristic. But undeniably attractive and honest.
I don’t often listen to the second side because it’s very much a mood thing. It’s very beautiful though. If you listen carefully, you may notice that Eno is using many of the same synth patches as in his Ambient albums, particularly the flute patch which features heavily in Apollo.

BeatlebugI'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

^I (or, rather, my dad) have Apollo, but I’ve never properly listened to it. I should sometime.
Anyway, I came here to say that if you’ve never listened to ‘Space Oddity’ with just one earphone (or the other — I recommend both, one at a time), go do it now. The panning is kinda kooky, to say the least
