I also love Young Americans and Fame, particularly the backing vocals on the former and the bass on the latter, though Fame doesn’t really go anywhere.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I ate breakfast (sausages, bacon, beans, mushrooms etc.) at a restaurant today, and as we were eating, Starman started playing, which has pretty much brightened up my day since! I really wanted to sing and clap along to the ending in the restaurant, but I didn’t because I didn’t want to embarrass myself in front of everyone. I had to resort to tapping my feet to the ending instead…

Starman is impossible not to want to bop along to.

So I’ve just listened to Blackstar in its entirety for the first time (I think) since it came out. When it ended, my Spotify went on Bowie shuffle and what should play but Rock N Roll Suicide. Brought me to tears. It struck me that Bowie was still making music just as compelling not only weeks before his death but also nearly fifty years after his first hit.

I was on a Bowie kick yesterday. Heard ‘Ashes To Ashes’ for the first time and it kinda blew my mind — I know it sounds a platitude, but I had literally never heard anything like it. Wow. The synth lick was just amazing: it had almost a nostalgia but not really, more of an apathetic, melancholic disillusionment for the fallen heroes of yesterday. Or something. Whatever it was, it was one of those songs where I knew it was going to sound very, very strange in a nostalgic way in a few decades… or maybe even twenty-four hours.
I had ‘Heroes’ stuck in my head, though… it gave me an idea inspired by the ‘standing by the wall’ bit which I shall have to draw. that song.

I well remember my dad’s bemusement at the video for Ashes to Ashes which is almost as brilliant as the song. Instant like for that song, definitely one that haunted me for a long while before I ever picked up a musical instrument, and years before I heard the album. He has that effect on people.
later edit:
The B-side to Ashes To Ashes was Move On from Lodger. It recycles (backwards) All The Young Dudes!

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

I’ve been digging this Bowie cover lately. I didn’t know this existed until a few days ago. It’s Alice in Chains doing Suffragette City. It’s a pretty faithful cover, but it’s one of those things you wouldn’t expect to hear. I dunno. Maybe this should’ve been a “Songs You Are on a Kick of” post.

I’m a big Bowie fan. Saw Bowie the first time 1973 as Ziggy Stardust. Two of my favorite songs is Life On Mars and Hereos. I’m very sorry we also have lost this really great musican and performer.

Wow! I recently read Woody (the Spiders From Mars drummer)’s autobiography, which has plenty of stuff on that period. Shame Bowie f****d them off after that, but I suppose he got too much into character on all the cocaine.

If today is a bittersweet day for you, let me try to live up to my 2017 award and present you with this:
and if that doesn’t make you laugh, I can’t help you.
And this too.
His sense of humour was kind of overlooked but brilliant.
