Young Americans is actually one of my least favourite 70s Bowie albums. … The title track is wonderful though (and includes a nod to A Day In The Life ).

Wow guys I'm getting definetly sooo into Bowie.
I decided to add Space Oddity to the U2 setlist from the concert I went in my mp3 player and this morning while going to work I listened paying attention to the lyrics.
Holy Cow!!!
When I heard “And the stars look very different today”, bam! I was blown away. Now I get why Bowie fans are so into Bowie. That's not a song, that's a freaking poem!!! And it's about a freaking astronant lost in space!! And the music playing the space ship lauching…. and the sadness at the end… man that's art. It reminds me of course why I love Paperback Writer , a very unlikely topic for an amazing song. For doing that it takes talent and guts.
Bravo Mr. Bowie. You got a new fan on me. I'm getting all your recommendations.
Have you listened to Ashes to Ashes?
For years, Space Oddity and Changes were the only Bowie songs I knew. Consequently, Ashes to Ashes blew my mind.
I told her I didn’t

I’m not keen on Hang Onto Yourself (relative to the rest of the album) but I agree about the closing three, even if Suffargette City is blatantly shoehorned in and Ziggy’s suicide is consequently a bit sudden. Only Dylan, the Beatles, Floyd and Queen could claim to have three better songs on an album (maybe John and George as well), and then there’s Starman, Five Years, Lady Stardust…
You certainly know your Bowie – well done.

So Mith after discovering some Bowie albums (mostly the early 1970s ones), you should watch Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars concert film. It really shows Bowie's dedication to the art of performance. Plus he really does put on a great concert. His fans are as dedicated to it as he is.
Special guest appearance of Ringo and Mo in the ever lovable perm days.

I will. thank you so much guys. I'm going to start my Bowie collection. I'm sure I'll like it because I love that kind of music.
And I think that video is not Bowie, a friend of mine and huge Bowie fan says so…. what do you think guys?

@Joe I listened to that terrible cover of Across The Universe tonight, ugh. But I’m a big fan of several of his albums as albums. The rerelease of Ziggy Stardust is a must, it’s a beautiful cleanup, still an amazing album. I’m not as big a fan of Heroes as I am of Low and Lodger and that wonderful mess Station To Station. And Scary Monsters has some excellent but non-commercial tracks. I got quite obsessed by Outside for a while and my current obsession is Heathen. Go back and listen to Hunky Dory too. And the full version of Fame is de riguer for any Bowie-Lennon fan.

I’m not sure I have a favourite Bowie album. He made a lot of utterly amazing ones but possibly never a masterpiece.
I have the new Five Years box set which contains the recent Ken Scott remix of Ziggy. @ewe2 is that the reissue you meant?
Low > “Heroes” > Lodger, though the first two are close. I’ve never really been a Lodger fan.

Mine is the 1999 remaster which includes b-sides and demos, but what’s the remix like? Lodger is an acquired taste, agreed, but I like its production better than Heroes, and I find a few songs more accessible like DJ, Boys Keep Swinging, and Move On. I treat Bowie albums much like Beatles albums, the production is usually fascinating to me and the writing varies.
