I hope you both have full recoveries and no lasting effects from it. Try to enjoy the days of rest and quiet with each other and please keep us updated with how you are both doing, otherwise the worries begin.
As for mod work, please take heart from a classic Eagles song;

Boris Johnson is about to announce a new Tier 4 for England, which will be a near total lockdown with all non-essential retail closed. I live in a Tier 3 area, London, that’s said to be going into Tier 4.
Hello, lockdown, my old friend
Not surprised to be with you again…
It’s also said he will tighten his ridiculous Christmas rules.

Well, that’s it! Tier 4 and Boris has cancelled Christmas (the original five days and three families swept aside; no meeting with others outside your bubble in Tier 4, and only Christmas Day outside Tier 3).

Makes complete sense. Cases are rising and a mutated more transmittable strain is now active so it’s all that can be done, it’s been coming and anyone who complains that they have changed the rules again and so close to Christmas is ignoring what is happening on a bigger scale. We are in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, it’s blatantly obvious the rules are going to change and at times quickly.
And Christmas has not been cancelled, it is simply very different to how it normally would be; you can still open presents, put up decorations, each food, have a drink, have a visitor around (admittedly limited and only if really needed) and see each other (albeit online). It’s not the same as every other year and is awful for many but saying it has been cancelled is not what is happening. For once in goodness knows how many years for all it should be very much a case of getting thru so that you can meet up again when this is over and have a far greater celebration together. It might be incredibly hard and s**t but we have to see the bigger picture. Vaccines are now getting distributed with more being approved; there is a little bit of light, unfortunately it’s a good few months away to the end so, to paraphrase John, we’ll just have to carry on. Count the cost, grit our teeth, close our eyes, cry in the night if it helps. Whatever it takes to get us thru.

I’m just bewildered why they decided to announce something so obviously reckless as the Christmas reprieve so far in advance, with the knowledge that cases were rising and that they may well have had to cancel it. Seems to me it would have been a much more sensible move, both politically and in regards to public health, to keep things as they are and wait until roughly this point to assess the situation before announcing anything even close to what they did.
My personal theory fits into my wider theory of Johnson-Sunakism; that Boris just wants to be the eternal bearer of good news, and thus will take reckless decisions in order to keep public perception optimistic, and that Sunak really just wants to get back to regular Tory economics, even if it means essentially doing de facto herd immunity.

Sturgeon said it would not have been changed if the new strain was not presenting a massive risk to Scotland; it’s something like 70% more contagious then the one we have grown accustomed to over the last year. The reason why it wasn’t announced sooner and why the rules have changed is a) the new mutation and how severe it could be was only identified over the last day or so with the science only revealed onto the government today and b) numbers in Scotland are lower than the rest of the UK and they didn’t want Christmas to be any worse than it had to be. This new development has changed everything quickly.
No government will want to do whats being done to Christmas but unfortunately the world is in a battle with a highly dangerous and infectious mutating disease which does not give a toss which day of the week it is or national holiday is coming up. Rules and restrictions are going to change quickly, at times with no warning. It’s s**t for billions of people but what else can governments do? It’s far easier looking on saying this should have been or not but I’d hate to be making the decisions as whatever they do it’s going to heavily effect millions of people in ways that cannot be underestimated. No point I’ll post again questioning what is being done but I get that it’s all really s**t for everyone – including Boris and all the other politicians and rulers leading their countries thru this.
What I will add is just how s**t Labour are in the UK. Have and give no hard opinion on anything, just sit and moan about whatever is decided and announced. Even Brexit. No plan ever outlined. I have no idea where they stand or what they want except it all should have been done differently and better than whatever has been done.

The situation in the UK has deteriorated with our highest death toll reported today, lockdowns being lengthened in some places and the virus out of control.
We’re getting it bad in London at the moment, with one in twenty people thought to be infected and a state of emergency declared, with London’s hospitals close to breaking point.
Don’t like going out at the moment, especially with so many still not wearing masks.

It is very worrying just now with the amount of cases and how quickly the numbers are rising. No idea why people would chose to forgo waring face coverings or continue to break the rules in meeting up but it’s not surprising.
My plan is to avoid everyone except when in work and in the shops getting the odd messages – tho I have home deliveries coming.

If 5% of UK residents have COVID (even while under lockdown), then they should be arresting people who don’t wear masks? While it may seem extreme, it would scare most into wearing masks and the few that would still refuse to wear a mask would be in jail, where they won’t be able to potentially spread COVID.

There are people who for very legitimate reasons can not and do not wear masks. It would therefore be impossible to police without asking questions about their health conditions and whatever else.
At one point you could get a letter from your GP or have a lanyard with a specific design but these vanished with little notice.

I got a letter today from NHS England asking me to make an appointment for the vaccine. One of the advantages of having a dodgy heart means I’m considered high risk.
It should also be noted, @Dark Overlord, the UK infection rate is not 5%, the London infection rate is.

The UK should have lanyards with unique watermarks, similar to our currency. That way, police can easily differentiate between real and fake lanyards so people with genuine medical conditions don’t have to be interrogated for not wearing a mask.

Some good news today for those who have suffered from Covid-19, a study by Public Health England, shows that 83% of those who have had the virus are protected from catching it again for at least five months. Those who took part in the study were 21,000 healthcare workers followed between June and November last year; so those working in some of the most at-risk environments.
This isn’t advice on whether you need to get vaccinated if you’ve already had the virus. The recommendation still is that you should, as the length of natural immunity is unknown beyond five months, and there are people with natural immunity still getting reinfected and still able to pass on the virus.

No, @Dark Overlord, the results of this study apply only to those who have had the virus, and have produced natural antibodies as a result, rather than people who have been vaccinated.
However, with the vaccines, because they haven’t been around long enough to understand the length of immunity they give, they may need a booster jab at some stage; or, if the virus changes too much, it could become like the annual flu jab, where the vaccine is updated each year for the major strains circulating.

The Glastonbury Festival has become the first UK festival to announce it will not go ahead this year. It’s to be expected; it’s hard to imagine being able to gather over 200,000 on a farm in Somerset this summer. Have to expect the other UK festivals, like Reading and Leeds, will go the same way.

Because television coverage only covers a small part of the cost of putting on the festival, @Dark Overlord, while the majority of the costs – which include paying three days worth of acts – are covered by the sale of tickets.
Football teams have their players on a weekly wage whether they play or not, so better to find a way to play to bring in some TV money to help out; acts who appear at festivals are hired on a one-off payment, and the artist bill is often the highest cost of putting on a festival. If they can’t sell the tickets, they can’t pay the artists, and the artists won’t play.
It would also be difficult to put together an international line-up as it’s impossible to know what travel restrictions will be in place over the summer, and how willing artists would be to fly into the UK depending on the situation here at the time.
EDIT:
It should be noted the 2019 festival cost about £40 million to put on, with ticket sales of about £50 million, and no more than a couple of million additional from the BBC to broadcast the festival.
