Likewise, cases here in Victoria have sky-rocketed the last few days. A month ago we’d got the cases down to about 15 a day, the last two days we’ve recorded 6-700 cases apiece.

Boris has put on hold for at least two weeks the next round of unlocking in England – including indoor performances, wedding receptions of up to 30 people, test crowds for sport, bowling alleys and skating rings reopening, and more – which were due to happen tomorrow (1 August). Much of the North of England are no longer to meet those from other households indoors or in their gardens. Things are looking a bit shaky at the minute.

Was always going to happen. People have to be sensible and restrained in how they live and what they do instead of saying “screw it” before heading down the beach with 63 crates of beer and 543,000 mates they only just knew existed on Facebook.

How you feeling about things in Victoria, @The Hole Got Fixed, and the restrictions being brought in?

Thanks for the concern, @Ron Nasty .
The case numbers here have been rather high the last week or so, so I agree with the new restrictions being brought in place (for those not in the know, New Zealand style restrictions with 1 or 2 exceptions, for the next 6 weeks). It doesn’t affect me much, as I haven’t been leaving the house much anyway, but my concern is that the people causing the problem aren’t abiding by the rules anyway. For example, police, when doorknocking to make sure people who have tested positive are isolating at home, have found 800 people were not even at home in the last few weeks. That’s a significant portion of active cases!

I’m lucky I don’t live in a suburb with that many cases, but some areas are insanely high – worryingly, many aged care homes too.
Still much better than the US, especially places like Texas and Florida…

Way to go UK!
Roughly 2,500 fans gathered Tuesday for the premiere concert at Britain’s first music venue dedicated to accommodating social distance. The Virgin Money Unity Arena, in England’s northeast in Gosforth Park, Newcastle, kicked off the first of its scheduled events with a show by English rock singer-songwriter Sam Fender.
The pop-up venue bills itself as the first of its kind, giving hope to an entertainment industry brought to a standstill by the coronavirus pandemic.
It has 500 separated viewing sites, most with raised metal platforms. The spaces are about 6 feet apart and fit up to five people, all of whom must arrive in the same car.

This is great! I am dying for some live music. I don’t think I’ve been to a show since New Years Day. Hope someone gets the same idea here in the states….

My office mate’s mother tested positive for Covid-19. Ahhh Office Mate moved back in with her parents a few months ago.
Thankfully for me and the other people at work, she has not been to work since being exposed to the virus via her mom. She will be quarantining for a fortnight. At least she can remote into her desktop to get work done while at home.

Take care THGF. You’ve got it much worse there than here in NSW. We’re worried about a dozen new cases a day.

Luckily I’m in a part of Melbourne that doesn’t have too many infections so I’m not as worried as I otherwise would be. Hopefully some restrictions might be lifted in 2 weeks.
From the sounds of it your clusters have been contained – enjoy your relative freedom!

Here in South-East Asia, we’re mostly doing okay. Talks around the sector have been about opening up our countries, and possibly preparing and negotiating for inter-sector tourism between countries. Our economies are doing fine (or at least better than other countries), but we’re still wary about economic slumps and second-wave infections. Still, we’re optimistic, and hopefully we can remain that way.
Of course we have exceptions, being Singapore, Phillipines and Indonesia. Singapore is having quite the hard time, but with mostly no deaths per month they seem to be having under control. Still, would be nice if there would be low infection rates. Things seem to be looking up for Singapore, and hopefully they can begin interstate travel between them and Malaysia soon. Would be good for both economies.
As for Phillipines and Indonesia… we don’t talk about them.
Stay safe, everyone.
Side note: On the bright side, Melbourne has good coffee. So Holey here would have plenty of excuses to try out coffee.

While this may be true:
1. Tea > coffee
2. It’s not one of the 4 reasons I’m allowed to leave my house. Stage four restrictions, baby!
3. If you want really good coffee you need to go to the inner northern suburbs. Even without covid, could I be bothered doing that?

I too think that ‘Tea > Coffee’. Maybe that’s why my opinion of Britain is higher than the US. Why would the Americans waste perfectly good tea? Washington is a fool.
1) I, too, prefer tea, and I’m the dirtiest Yank imaginable.
2) Collateral damage. It’s a shame, but revolutions are violent by nature.
3) *puts on history professor hat* Washington had literally nothing to do with the yeeting of tea into the Boston Harbor lmao… that event was conducted by a bunch of disgruntled Bostonians two years before the Virginia planter was even chosen to command the Continental Army. *takes off history professor hat*
