^^^While boss man Varadkar has said we aren’t, we’ll have to do something similar soon.
Load of selfish t***s thinking now is the time to go out and stroll along side by side near the coastline, bored teenagers meeting up and their even worse parents letting them out.
Like, I’ll happily give them my college assignments and my notes if they’re so bored. I really can’t be arsed to do them and would rather just talk s***e with my friends online.
Situation was similar during the first day of the lockdown in my country as well. Many people actually thought it would be a good idea to go on a local holiday and even return to their hometowns (or “balik kampung” as well call it in malay). In any way, it riled up the government so badly that they had to enforce jail times to those who disobeyed the law. At the very least their not smashing mahjong tables and pinning men against the walls (unlike a certain Mao-loving country).

This coronavirus really sucks not just because of the virus but also because of the moral dilemma that comes with it. Let life continue as usual and the virus can potentially kill a good chunk of the population or try to prevent the spread and people lose their freewill, which could eventually lead to a violent anarchist Revolution (whether that be from the loss of freewill itself or the economic crash that follows).
It’s genuinely scary that we have to make this choice between letting ~25% of the population die or temporarily turning America into a giant prison state (with many facing permanent repercussions) but on the plus side, it’s a great time to record music, which is what I plan on doing during these incredibly stressful times.

It’s not as strict as some countries as we are able to go out to exercise (no more than two at a time and avoid busy places) once a day. It leaves a very small amount of room to get space and for the government to step in again and tighten the restrictions further if required.
Reading that back and it’s quite unbelievable that it’s now daily living conditions in the UK.

Bye bye all non-essential services in Ireland.
We’ll all have incredibly long hair and look very rough when this is over. The beauty industry will blow up.
This thing isn’t fun.

I saw return flights from NYC to Dublin early next month for €300! The likelihood of them being cancelled is practically definite though.
Like, New York is the corona pit of the US atm but still….heyyyyy.

I thought the line was “Nasties in the bathroom just below the stairs,” until I read the real lyric which is “Nazis…”. However, my mishearing of the lyric is more appropriate for these times.

My hands are not impressed with all the washing I’ve been doing. No matter how much moisturiser I put on them, they’re having none of it!

Nasty’s often in the bathroom washing his hands, even on days like today when he hasn’t been out, but it’s not below the stairs because I don’t have any.

I’ve moved my post to ‘Philosophy‘ to remove the political comment to ensure the conversation does not harm this thread.
I’ve also added a note in post one asking that comments such as mine be posted elsewhere.

As this thread was, I believe, created on the back of my suggestion in another thread, I never saw it as somewhere where political leadership across the world could not be criticised when it was considered they were failing.
mmm’s criticism of Trump wasn’t, so far as I could see, political – in that he was suggesting the approach of the Democrats was far better than Trump’s response – but rather a criticism of Trump’s rejection of the science, and his refusal to prepare the American public for the oncoming storm.
An example is shown by the disappearance of Anthony Fauci from press conferences after he commented in an interview that he couldn’t jump forward and grab the microphone every time Trump said something that went against the science.
I hugely disagree with Boris Johnson on nearly everything, and I wouldn’t hesitate to criticise him if what he was saying was constantly disagreed with by his scientific advisers. That’s not about party politics but, rather, the conflict between scientific advice and political interest.
And your suggestion in another thread that he was just offering hope is all well and fine, but what if that hope is completely unfounded (as the science says it is), how does that prepare the population for what is ahead?
There’s a difference between saying it will all be alright in the end, though painful, and suggesting against all scientific evidence coming from every country in the world, that it’ll all be over by Easter. That’s just offering false hope.
It won’t, this is going to be a long haul. Those of us with leaders who are accepting the scientific advice accept what is happening, and the changes to our lives for the foreseeable future. How will those Americans who totally buy his line that America will be reopening by Easter be feeling when, at Easter, more States are in lockdown than now and the death rate is climbing?
Will they not be wondering why their President didn’t prepare them for the trial your country is about to go through? why he wasn’t more honest about the test that lies ahead?

You’re gonna be moving lots of my posts from this thread then because I’m not gonna separate the response of political leaderships around the world from the rest of the coronavirus news because that’s what shapes what the coronavirus news is, and I said when suggesting this thread that it should include coronavirus news.

A lot of people don’t want to get involved in such discussions, and as seen today over on the Bootlegzone forum, such posts soon become very unpleasant and divisive and take away what the reason for the thread was. I know what you were saying, I was the first to go there, but overall, in the greater scheme of things, for the greater good, and for the rest of those on here who don’t want this thread to become a political argument (and let’s not pretend that’s not what will happen eventually even if you’re not the one to do so), let’s not go there. It’s too much effort to start moving posts and making pleas for discussions to stop or go elsewhere.

In my view, the purpose of this thread, as stated right in the title, is to bring people together during this stressful, boring, lonely times. Political arguments are likely to cause more stress and division, not less. You’re free to critique world leaders for their responses, but I would like to avoid bogging this thread down with too much of that type of discussion. What say you all @Ahhh Girl and @The Hole Got Fixed?
