This thread moves so fast! And I have so many listening responsibilities…
What was offered aside from Lou and the Waterboys?
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

The word “one” is a working link to the post.

Apologies for the absence, a combination of low data and low mood… but both are recharged…Nasty’s Coronavirus Thread Album of the Day…
From 1988, and I’m imagining a big grin appearing on the faces of the Bontee brothers, the wonderful Mary Margaret O’Hara, her debut, and pretty much only album Miss America, she would go on to do a soundtrack for Apartment Hunting 12 years later… but apart from that… some guest vocals with others and an occasional track on a compilation… this was it…
One of those artists you scratch your head over, a beautiful artist who you wonder why there isn’t more, and why most of you will be going “Who?”
This is a beautiful and often forgotten masterpiece, in my opinion…
Perfect music to eat wake up to, thank you. That’s exactly what I was looking to listen to this morning, and lo and behold you picked the perfect album – psychic or chance?

Agreed. Not the biggest fan of the guy, but the last thing our country needs right now is the loss of a leader. All we should really be doing is supporting the government and critiquing them where criticism is due in order to make sure their response is airtight, so that we can get through the crisis at hand.
That said, I do dislike how people keep saying that Boris got through it because of “his tough spirit” or because “he’s a fighter”. Kind of implies that those who’ve already lost their lives weren’t fighters themselves, and that such a quality is what it takes to survive the virus, when that’s obviously not the case.

Eh, people always say that about people who survive diseases, especially ones like cancer which seem to strike more or less indiscriminately (the “cosmic shithammer,” as Gary Oldman aptly termed it when speaking about David Bowie []). COVID19 isn’t much different from cancer in that it seems to strike with some unpredictability, though it does fall into broad patterns.
It’s one of those peculiar comforting lies humans tell ourselves to keep us from going crazy, I think, at the thought that maybe one can try to do everything right and be a fabulous/powerful/kind/wealthy/loved/valuable person, and the cosmic shithammer still might just come for you anyway. Though I do think there’s something to the idea that, if you refuse to give up hope, you might just have a slightly better chance, all else being equal, than someone who has given up altogether and fallen into despair. Moods can affect one’s immune system, after all. (To be clear, I’m not saying that was Mr Johnson’s case necessarily, I have no idea, I just mean generally.)

From the newspaper that I read, there was an article that Johnson more or less said that he ‘owes his life’ to the medics to took care of him in the hospital. Quote: “I can’t thank them enough. I owe them my life”. Therefore, I do think that it will do our frontliners injustice to merely credit his recovery to his morale, though a strong conviction can come a long way as well.
Side note: I’m not sure if this is the correct place to mention, by my newspaper also mentioned Lady Gaga will be hosting a telecast featuring the one and only Paul McCartney , as well as other prominent musicians such as Billie Eilish and Lizzo. Pretty stoked to watch McCartney live (on youtube, of course).

Fair points both. I suppose it is one of those comforting lies as BB says, but I don’t know, it always ticks me off slightly whenever I hear it.
Does anybody know whether governments are planning ‘exit strategies’ for once things start to pick up? I’d be interested to know what plans are in place.

There’s a remote SNL!!! There’s a remote SNL!!! Something I was very sad about was the indefinite postponement of SNL but now it’s back and considering the circumstances it’s really frickin’ good. In the spoilers below are a few of what I think are the highlights.

I think Govn. Cuomo said on CNN this morning that he was planning on meeting with the governors of the tri-state area and of other states that border New York about how they will start things back up again but other than that I’m not entirely sure that anybody has plans in place.
