It’s really sad that so many kids in my generation are already acting like they’re 21 at the age of freaking 13. Girls are wearing clothes so inappropriate for their age in middle school nowadays– I’m all for expression through style and clothing, but that doesn’t mean act and dress like a college-age girl when you’re not even in high school yet. Younger high-schoolers are so entitled too– using arrogance and know-it-all personalities as defense mechanisms and to come across as more mature, even when they just come across as rude and immature. Kids are growing up too fast because of pressure to be like their idols (social media influencers and the like)– it’s saddening, really. And the worst part is that at my high school you get picked on for acting like a normal 14-year-old and for exploring yourself and your interests and listening to your teachers and entrusting your older peers for help. No one in high school can be vulnerable until they become a junior or senior, because you’re last two years are when your fellow peers have stopped giving a s**t and your younger peers start to look to you as remodels.
Hahaha kids have been doing this for ages. I think we’re just old (then again, I’ve been thinking this since I was a child, so I guess I was born old )
I’ve always been simultaneously considered wise beyond my years and a bit of a late bloomer/retaining childlike naivety. So either I’m the best of both worlds, I’m surrounded by flatterers, or I’m just eccentric

Yeah, I don’t think this is unique to any particular generation. It’s a classic thing for kids to want to appear older and more sophisticated than they are, I remember my sister and her friends being 13 or so and acting like they were 21, and that was over a decade ago now.

If I sing in a forest and no one hears a sound, do I even exist?
(I am a virtual particle, I have to be witnessed in order to exist.)

This is, also, a confession of sorts and therefore more on topic than the entire last page or so.

Honestly if you flew to South America I couldn’t refuse. You would prove to be worth more of a damn than any girl I ever dated.

What about yourself. The tree analogy is made because in escense trees can’t witness anything, nor any other plant in the forest. Humans can, so as long as you witness yourself, you actually would exist, according to the analogy
But now that I’m thinking about it you’re a pie so…

Perhaps trees can experience things…

Your existence is not based off other’s perceptions of your existence it’s based off your own. People like to say that “the world doesn’t revolve around you”, but it very much does for every person. As far as you know, your perception of reality is the only thing that exists.

Because they like it. If you don’t that’s fine but they do and that’s also fine. I have no problem whatsoever with people pursuing “childish” interests or whatever, people can do what they want as long as it’s not hurting other people. Which is why i take issue with the pony lady Ex Tex was talking about, because her obsession took precedence over her LIVING CHILD and that’s not cool.

That is logically true, but my rhetorical question wasn’t a logical hypothetical, it was late-night irrational soul-fear talk

You should be, @Beatlebug. At least 10,000 of those posts have been worthwhile, maybe even as many as 12,000. Obviously we have to ignore your Trump posts but that’s still a very good batting average.
No, seriously, your contribution to the forum is immeasurable, and always welcome. It’s been a pleasure to have your company since you were, what, 14? We may butt heads on politics at times, but always with respect, and the forum is a better place for you being here.

Well like I said earlier, somebody who puts collecting children’s toys over caring for their child probably wasn’t a good parent even before that. It might have been good for the child for the parent to completely give up, because now they are with their grandparents who (hopefully) are giving them all the love and attention they don’t get from their parents.

Yeah, but imagine growing up knowing your own mother willingly gave you up in favor of a bunch of plastic horses.
I’m not saying it’s a good situation, just possibly better than the child staying with their mom. Being both neglected by your mom and not taken care of is much worse than being neglected by your mom but taken care of by your grandparents.

Yeah, no, that makes sense. I was just giving an example of why such an obsession is Bad. (If she did not have the Bad Obsession maybe she could have been motivated to take care of her child. But given that she does have the Bad Obsession it is probably good that the child has grandparents to take care of it.)
Love one another.

I didn’t used to like it, either. It grew on me, mostly because I appreciate how difficult it is to do, but I can’t blame you.
