As far as the question (computer savvy guy here), I don’t understand exactly what you’re asking.  Do you want to be able to play the video or to be able to convert them to a format that you can play on your computer currently?

Hi @Necko, thanks for you speedy reply. I just want to play the video in its current format, I need an .mp4 player. I’ve had very bad experiences with software that converts .mp4 to other formats.

I’m pretty sure that Quicktime is the right player for that.

@Oudis I have found VLC video player has also been pretty good for a lot of the things I have tried to play.

@Oudis, I thought we had an earlier thread where we had discussed comuputer problems. Yay, found it. I have no clue as to the answer to your question, unfortunately.

There is no need to convert the files @Oudis. Most video players will play mp4 files ie Windows Media Player, Quick Time and VLC. The latter is free to download and plays a ton of different file formats including flv, flac and mp4 files as well so if you want to download some software i’d go with that. If the files dont play in any of those then it will be that they are somehow damaged.

@trcanberra, @meanmistermustard

Perhaps the files are damaged then, because I have VLC and it won’t play them; perhaps that’s why the software I downloaded from the Net didn’t work either. Gee, I so want to watch “Kolchak” again!

@Oudis, have you downloaded the files again? If its something you want then its always worth trying it twice in case the issue lies with the download and not the files themselves.

The files may also not actually be .mp4 – this sometimes happens if someone else encoded them and got it wrong.

Thanks for asking @UnidentifiedFiendishThingy, I’m using Windows Vista on my laptop and XP on my PC -I’m a caveman, I know. Do you think it has something to do with the problem?

I think the question may just have been checking if you had a Mac or Linux or something other than Windows. I have XP on an old netbook and it plays .MP4s just fine with some of the players mentioned here – as noted above I suspect the files are either corrupt or not correctly encoded by whoever made them.

That was part of it but I have heard of some people not being able to play videos on Vista. My dad had a Vista laptop and it sometimes would play videos. @Oudis Does it not play on both computers? If so, then trcanberra is probably right and the files are corrupted.

Look its a thingy! A fiendish thingy!

@UnidentifiedFiendishThingy, @trcanberra

Thanks for your replies. Yes, I’ve tried to play the files on both my laptop and my PC, that is two OS, and nothing happened. So the files are maybe corrupted or not correctly encoded… Do you guys know if there’s any way to “fix” that problem?

I dont think there is aside from trying the download again and seeing if it went wrong.

Has anyone had their cut-and-paste quit working on an Android phone? I Googled the problem, and it looks like I will have to do a factory reset on it unless someone here knows something else I can try.

Did you try turning it off and then turning it back on?

The problem isn’t just on the forum. I can’t copy/paste anything in any apps. So frustrating!!!
