My grandparents are visiting and we’ve just finished decorating our tree. I also tried to learn Wonderful Christmastime last night, using some delay on my guitar to simulate the synths — an interesting experiment indeed

Some of you may remember this from last year…

Beating Ariana Grande into 3rd place, Ava Max into 2nd, this year’s UK Chrimble #1:(And they are a real family! Worked out better than he thought!)
Of note, John & Yoko’s Happy Xmas (War Is Over) is at #29 while Paul’s Wonderful Christmastime is at #35.
Well, LadBaby are back for another go at Chrimble #1, all proceeds again going to the Trussell Trust food bank, and guess what London studio named after a Beatles album let them in which allowed them to record their follow-up…

One N, two K’s. I only know that because of auto-correct.
I was going to say Happy Solstice, and I don’t care if you celebrate it or not, because I’m jolly well wishing you a happy one. but I wasn’t here yesterday
Ah well, it’s still Saturnalia…

I’m not entirely sure there is a set spelling for Hanukkah…. I know Hanukkah and Chanukah are the most common ones but I’ve seen it spelled a lot of different ways. Not sure if they’re correct though. I’ll have to ask my grandma…

Ahhh GirlI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

The middle candle decoration on the table is older than me. I have never known Christmas without it.

Looks like we’ll be spending this Christmas at home due to family illness.
Ah well, I have more time to catch up on my unread posts…

So I asked my grandma about the Hanukkah spelling and she said there’s no set thing. It’s translated from the Hebrew alphabet to the English alphabet, and there’s not really a direct translation for, like, the Jewish hhhchkkchckchh sorta sound, and there’s a letter for it in Hebrew but not in English. So they did their best and did it like Chanukah, but Hallmark started doing Hanukkah in all their greeting cards, with an H, so that started becoming really common too. But she said that the spelling doesn’t matter as long as it gets the pronunciation across. Of course, it’s supposed to have the aforementioned hhhhkchkkkchhhh sound, but Americans just say “h.” Interesting stuff.

These sorts of things are fascinating. I’m glad I asked, and I’m glad you found out – I’m now a wiser man! Thanks to your grandma, Fiddy!

Someone is currently covering ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ on my tv, I think it’s Alexandra Burke. I think she’s gone thru the school where you’re taught more warbling = more feeling. If it had been sung without all that it would have been a fine cover.

Interesting. Do American Jews pronounce it correctly?
