My dad died on Christmas day in 1993. However, he had been in a physical state something like Terri Schiavo. My mom had been taking care of him for 15 years while still taking care of her 2 children and getting degrees in education and nursing. Sadly, his death was actually a relief.
I don’t know what material things I want for Christmas. I better start thinking of some things because I know some people who will start asking me what I want.

This Christmas will be a weird one without my grandma. The first 11 years of my life we spent Christmas at her place and then my grandpa died. After that she’s always spent it at our house and she always made her famous potatoe/meat/don’t know what the f**k it’s called in English salad. Last Christmas she already wasn’t capable of cooking anymore and we had to do it ourselves. It will be a very empty Christmas without her and it won’t be the same. She was always there.
I just hope it will be great and fun as always.
Already bought some decorations and put them in my room. Couldn’t resist.

This Christmas I just want to enjoy Christmas without thinking about how my father died during the holidays. And I would like Santa to bring me some enthusiasm. And maybe some elves could sprinkle some magic dust that makes me less pessimistic about other humans.
Nobody should have to feel that way and I hope this helps. Based on your past posts, I guessing you spend a lot of time on Forums or similar social media and watch a lot of newscasts. I could be way off base on that, but if this applies to anyone here, I’ll be glad I posted it.
Folks may want to spend less time on electronic media – not giving it up altogether – and spend more time socializing in person. Try to find a nice balance. I recently heard a radio feature that discussed that very thing. Here is what they reasoned. The news media make their living on advertising. Therefore, they are motivated to show us the worst possible human behavior because sensationalism sells. As for social media, there are many cowardly people who simply want to stir the pot and say things they wouldn’t say in person. So basically, due to both of these sources, the worst of humanity is force fed to us. Conversely, if you start socializing more in person and keep true to yourself, you will be drawn to like minded people and they to you. Another benefit is that your tolerance of others grows. All of this reminded me that ever since I balanced it out better, I have been a lot happier overall. I’ve also discovered that while a bit of cynicism is a good thing – survival instinct, etc… – it shouldn’t drive my every thought.
Bringing this back around to the topic, the holidays are a perfect time to put this into practice. My gift to you all is the power of tolerance. I hope it fits.

It’s not even half way through November, I don’t know what you all are on about.
And I’d like the Pink Floyd ‘Discovery’ box set, while I’m here.

My town put up Christmas decorations the day after–and in some places the day of–Halloween. It’s like people around here have entirely forgotten about Thanksgiving. I do kind of avoid Thanksgiving celebrations myself, though, since my family is violently dysfunctional and can’t get through a single holiday without a screaming match.
On the subject of Christmas gifts, though: My siblings have been begging our mother to get them the Beatles version of Rock Band, so hopefully I’ll get in on that too if she actually does it. Back when my uncle had it and we played it, it was a bit too easy… But still fun.

I do spend quite a bit of time on forums and Facebook. Partly this is because I am an extreme introvert who prefers the company of his wife and cats. I enjoy reading books. I also don’t drink anymore, so “going out” doesn’t mean the same thing anymore. I have to go out for a purpose instead of to get drunk. In the past, drinking a beer made being around strangers more tolerable. It’s not really that I am suspicious of other people as much as that I just have to spend a lot of time alone recharging if I am around someone, so I have to make sure that being around that person or people is going to be worthwhile.

I will probably wait until Nicholastide (December 6) to bring out my St. Nicholas statuettes and put them in the front entryway. I’m not sure if we are going to do a tree this year because the cats are too destructive with trees. We also don’t have a fireplace or a mantle in our new apartment, so whatever decorating I do will have to be minimal.

My tiny Christmas tree came yesterday for my apartment, also some of my books have already arrived in the post (yay). I am getting quite in the Christmassy mode, might throw on Love Actually or somefink while doing study.

We’re all decorated nice and festive, and ready to go. I only have a couple of little things left to get and gifts are done. Now it’s concentrating on the baking, my favorite part! I’ve updated my Christmas playlist on Spotify too:

Christmas already, looks like it’s time for me, Steve, and Joe (our new friend who was over for thanksgiving and we let him stay free of charge, since we didn’t want him to sleep on the streets and panhandle for a living) to get some Jack and watch the best Christmas special ever made, The Star Wars Holiday Special.

I wonder why The Beatles never made a Christmas song outside their Fan Club records, although all 4 of them have solo Christmas songs and Ringo even has a Christmas themed album.
I don’t think it was a thing to have a Christmas song back in the day. Could be wrong but I cannot think of Rolling Stones, Dylan, Kinks etc releasing Christmas songs in the 60’s.

Time to pull out my three favourite seasonal albums:
I can’t really stand conventional Christmas music (apart from the ex-Beatles’ songs and the Beatles Christmas records) anymore, but I adore those. I even have the first on vinyl.

Tell that to the people who already have plenty of snow. Also theres a nearly nation wide cold snap due to a polar vortex due in the next couple of days. I’d say winter’s here, at least in the USA
