I like Christmas because I can surprise people with gifts and it not seem so weird to do so. I am a gift-giving-a-holic.

I’m on the very cynical side of it all.

Christmas is supposedly this wonderful time where folk put aside their differences for a day of fun and merriment. Instead its usually 40 minutes of moderate tolerance followed by snide remarks about their gifts with a large dollop of seething resentment that builds throughout the day until the games which spill out into arguments leading to everyone vowing never to go thru such crap next year. But they do. In an effort to avoid such a scenario folk will stick the tv on and drink.

And lets not forget that for many Christmas is filled with sadness at those who are absent for whatever reason or because they have no one to spend it with.

And i have had generally good Christmases for the last few years.a-hard-days-night-john-7

I spend Christmas with found family, so it’s all good.

It’s no secret that I love Christmas. After Sinterklaas (the 5th of December) we’ve put up the Christmas tree and decorated the house. It looks great and cosy. There are also lights all over the town, they put them in the trees. There are also Christmas trees in the streets, and of course you can see all the trees and decorations on and in other people’s houses, which is lovely and cheers me up every time I have to cycle or walk home or to the trainstation or whatever in the dark.

I love that, the food, the horribly cheesy songs..everything!

We give presents on Sinterklaas evening and not on Christmas day, so we don’t have that problem.

My sister will not be here, so that’s another problem out of the way.

Should be great this year.

I like Christmas because of all the good films* that are on the telly except Sky the greedy backstards have bought the rights to all the good Christmas films so we have to make do with the very Christmassy film of….’The Big Lebowski’.

Oh well they’re showing all the Harry Potter films so I’m happy enough a-hard-days-night-john-6

Why is Harry Potter a Christmas film? The films span a whole school year.

They all have a Christmas scene in them don’t apart from The Deathly Hallows Part 2 don’t they? Well that’s bloody well good enough for me!

You could always download a couple of Christmas films, right?

I’m looking forward to doing the groceries for Christmas. I just love that part of throwing all this nice food in the shopping cart!

Gosh I don’t think I could be bothered- I don’t really have any attachment to watching Christmas films at Christmas- the only ones that I own are Home Alone 1, 2, 3 and 4 (and we ignore the last 2 *shudders*) but I don’t think I’ll watch them. The only film that I watch without a doubt on Christmas Eve is Help !, a James Bond film (whichever one is on, I blame this year it’s ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’- good stuff), Life of Brian and sometimes Die Hard (perfect little tomboy aren’t I?).

We have all of our Christmas shopping done I think, my mam is going to buy the turkey on Wednesday from our butcher as she’s never had a fresh one before so she decided she’d try one this year. Both of my parents are ever so slightly annoyed that they have a wedding of a neighbours son on the 27th and I think I’m going with them up to the wedding but they’re going abandoning me for the 5 hours or so that they’ll be there, fun!

My friend got me a box of Lindt chocolate for Christmas and the temptation is strong I tell you. I’ve had a couple and they are too nice, the red ones are divine!

No question a fresh turkey from the butcher is the way to, you can tell the difference so easily when eating it. We had to go elsewhere for ours this year as our local butcher has no turkeys left but there was no way we were going frozen or supermarket.

Lindt chocolates are amazing.

So, @meanmistermustard, if not butcher, frozen, or supermarket, then where? Have you been out poaching at the local turkey farm again?

My sister’s husband’s brother owns a restaurant which has its own supply of turkey so thats our source this year, free-range and killed just a day or so before. All the fruit and veg are from the local independent greengrocer, all the other meat is from the butchers.

We try to not buy from the supermarkets what we can get locally as it supports the town’s businesses and whilst the quality is far superior (cook some mince from both and you’ll see the difference in the colour never mind in the taste) the price difference is next to nothing.

Tell that to the ABC Family channel especially for the first film.

I own a few films and watch a few on tv/netflix.

I own:

Home Alone 1 & 2–the third one is alright.

The Santa Clause

Nightmare Before Christmas

We don’t own anything. I always download them, but usually there are plenty on tv. Last year that wasn’t the case though. My favourites are definitely Love Actually and The Muppet’s version of A Christmas Carol. I’ve seen both of them a lot of times, but I could totally watch them again.

Merry Christmas, everyone. I haven’t been into posting much lately. Not really into much other than sitting in my pajamas by the fire and reading a book.

Merry Christmas to you as well, @Expert Textpert . Sounds cozy. After today, I am off for Christmas until Monday. My days will be spent in much the same fashion as yours.

Listening to the Christmas Albums… again.

Then I am going to put on the original Grinch movie… again… while I wrap presents.

My present from my partner came today:

I’m so excited to read it!

I knew I was getting it.. but still!

Like every year, I go to my grandparent’s house for Christmas, but this time I’m very excited just because last time I went my uncle gave me two magazines, one fully dedicated to John and another one with a page dedicated to Beatlemania, and told me he had a little Beatles book, and also because my grandma told me she watched A Hard Day’s Night and Yellow Submarine in the cinema, and I’ll try to get some information, though I don’t expect much Beatlemania or anything, I really don’t know If The Beatles were so popular here a-hard-days-night-paul-7, which I hope it’s just my imagination and they were very popular and my grandma has something with The Beatles on it a-hard-days-night-john-6.

Anyway, my parents are going to do a karaoke, which I don’t want to participate in, but as always, I’ll end participating and looking like Paul at George’s wedding, I’m certain that it happens all the time a-hard-days-night-ringo-10.

That’s really cool @Merch. Ask them some questions to help jog their memories of The Beatles and the Sixties. You will treasure the conversation all your life.
